the film is on and about pearl harbour, yet it doesn't require special effects or nonsense storytelling like that in 'Pearl Harbour' to tell of human tragedy, old hollywood is just terrific.
Ex - Corporal Robert E. Prewitt shows Lorene a bugle mouth piece. He proudly tells her, "I played taps at Arlington, they picked me to play taps at Arlington National Cemetery on Armistice Day, the President (Franklin D. Roosevelt) was there." At the end of the movie, Alma (Lorene) holds Prewitt's treasured bugle mouth piece.
What caused Burt Lanchester to have a stroke before he died. He was always physically fit. Ive been trying to find out for the longest time. How can a guy with a six pack like burt have heart problems. Was he a smoker, or drug addict.
This is one of my favorite movies. I have watched it many times and love every second of it because it is a great story with wonderful actors - Burt Lancaster, Montgomery Clift, Deborah Kerr, Frank Sinatra, Donna Reed, Ernest Borgnine ...
One of the greatest movies Hollywood ever produced. It's a pity that people of my generation don't like these movies. They laugh at me when I say I like black and white movies, which just shows how ignorant people of my generation are. And besides, other than the fact that movies from the black and white era a.k.a. Golden Age of Hollywood are better, with greater stories and performances, I think that black and white is sexier and more apealing than coloured movies. My opinion. I'm 16 years old.
I love this era of movies and i'm around the same age. I actually got the chance to do a movie review on Now, Voyager(1942) for my Writing Methods class. That was fun.
Anyways, films from this era, whether in color or B&W are so much better. I haven't actually seen From Here To Eternity yet, but I'm planning on it.
I'm turning 19 but I completely agree with you. People of our generation usually laugh at us when we watch these kinds of movies. Thankfully, I entered an organization here in college that appreciates all kinds of films.
It's just a remark because i like classics to but a lot of films from the Golden Age are in color.ex;Singing in the rain,Leave her to heaven,An affair to remember and the wizard of Oz..
You think I don't know that? I know a lot of films were in colour... I meant 'the generation of black and white films', I meant movies from the 40's and 50's which are commonly associated with being black and white.
Anyway, I'm too sad to reply now, I just heard that Michael Jackson died.
@GEVMM ....You....are....awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!! haha I'm about to turn 16 and I think the same thing!!! Black and White movies (and movies up until the 70's) just had better story lines and such! My weakness is romance and movies back before the 70's and 80's were just incredible because of the romance and quality of the movies and perfirmances! But everyone thinks I'm totally nuts.
From Here to Eternity is #52 in the AFI's list of greatest movies of all time. I think it should be higher, it's wonderful. I'm watching all the movies online, here:
Fantastic to see three Greats of the Screen Lancaster Clift & Sinatra all in the one movie, one of my all time great films, memorable they sure don't make em like that anymore.
I have a question. In this movie, right before the famous kissing scene on the beach, isn't there a part where they run towards each other (on the beach) with their arms outstreched (to hug each other when they meet), or is that from Another movie?
Film location: Scholfield Barracks Hawaii, real life home to the highly decorated 25th Infantry Division. My tour 1970-1973, 65th Engineer Battalion, unit clerk.
Your work was well put together along with the perfect music. I had placed this along with my other "Favorites" the first time I watched this! Burt Lancaster certainly took my breath away- the "SEXIEST MAN" alive!!!
Great clips! Clift is fantastic to watch. Thanks for uploading - though the music makes me want to stuff my ears with acorns. (so inappropriate, decade-wise - Abba?!)
One of my favourite movies ever. I saw it in an old theatre a few months ago that had been built in the '20s and it was such an amazing experience. Monty & Sinatra are WONDERFUL and they're amazing together in this movie. Thanks for such a great! tribute. :)!!

He was a smoker. That caused him health issues later in his life.

Wow, people my age who don't write a movie off because it's not in HD?!? lol
I don't know what's wrong with people these days. Besides having better performances and scripts, these movies had more interesting actors.
Idk why but most of my favorite actors of all time made the bulk of their stuff in either black and white or Technicolor (my personal fave).
