  • the film is on and about pearl harbour, yet it doesn't require special effects or nonsense storytelling like that in 'Pearl Harbour' to tell of human tragedy, old hollywood is just terrific.

  • Burt was HOT !!

  • Ex - Corporal Robert E. Prewitt shows Lorene a bugle mouth piece. He proudly tells her, "I played taps at Arlington, they picked me to play taps at Arlington National Cemetery on Armistice Day, the President (Franklin D. Roosevelt) was there." At the end of the movie, Alma (Lorene) holds Prewitt's treasured bugle mouth piece.

  • strange choice of music

  • @spangleJ Hey, it's set in Hawaii!! Brings back a rush of memories when my honey and I were there in 2006.

  • originally shared by Sarahi Stewart (thanks) - now sending this classic out to Frank O Hunt!

  • Just noticed an error in my post 8 months ago. It was 1953, not 1963........

  • What caused Burt Lanchester to have a stroke before he died. He was always physically fit. Ive been trying to find out for the longest time. How can a guy with a six pack like burt have heart problems. Was he a smoker, or drug addict.

  • @Kobraproductions

He was a smoker. That caused him health issues later in his life.

  • Just back from Korea, l963, My dad took me over 70 miles one night to see in in Chincoteague, VA. All I wanted to see was Merle Travis.

  • This is such a great movie. Almost everyone can relate to it somehow. It's timeless.

  • This is one of my favorite movies. I have watched it many times and love every second of it because it is a great story with wonderful actors - Burt Lancaster, Montgomery Clift, Deborah Kerr, Frank Sinatra, Donna Reed, Ernest Borgnine ...

  • Old is gold. The story and acting were brilliant. All of them were great.

  • Love the whole "Old Is Gold" quote :))

  • i think that this is a very appropied song

  • One of the greatest movies Hollywood ever produced. It's a pity that people of my generation don't like these movies. They laugh at me when I say I like black and white movies, which just shows how ignorant people of my generation are. And besides, other than the fact that movies from the black and white era a.k.a. Golden Age of Hollywood are better, with greater stories and performances, I think that black and white is sexier and more apealing than coloured movies. My opinion. I'm 16 years old.

  • I love this era of movies and i'm around the same age. I actually got the chance to do a movie review on Now, Voyager(1942) for my Writing Methods class. That was fun.

Anyways, films from this era, whether in color or B&W are so much better. I haven't actually seen From Here To Eternity yet, but I'm planning on it.

  • I'm turning 19 but I completely agree with you. People of our generation usually laugh at us when we watch these kinds of movies. Thankfully, I entered an organization here in college that appreciates all kinds of films.

  • hey im young and i love black and white or old films! im 22, were out here dont worry! lol

  • me too :) have been watching them since birth!!!

  • U sound like 16 going on 30;-)

I like this moove & all B&W mooves alot, I totaly agry with U! & I didnt grow up in this country, but I live in Hawaii now & I love it.!!!!

  • love that song too , hope i make it to hawaii someday!

  • Wow, people my age who don't write a movie off because it's not in HD?!? lol

I don't know what's wrong with people these days. Besides having better performances and scripts, these movies had more interesting actors.

Idk why but most of my favorite actors of all time made the bulk of their stuff in either black and white or Technicolor (my personal fave).

  • It's just a remark because i like classics to but a lot of films from the Golden Age are in color.ex;Singing in the rain,Leave her to heaven,An affair to remember and the wizard of Oz..

  • You think I don't know that? I know a lot of films were in colour... I meant 'the generation of black and white films', I meant movies from the 40's and 50's which are commonly associated with being black and white.

Anyway, I'm too sad to reply now, I just heard that Michael Jackson died.

  • @GEVMM ....You....are....awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!! haha I'm about to turn 16 and I think the same thing!!! Black and White movies (and movies up until the 70's) just had better story lines and such! My weakness is romance and movies back before the 70's and 80's were just incredible because of the romance and quality of the movies and perfirmances! But everyone thinks I'm totally nuts.

  • @GEVMM

    I totally feel the same.

    John from Hungary.

    22 years old.

  • does anyone know where i can find the george reeves footage in this movie?

  • Look under the movie Hollywood Land. It should lead you to a u tube link that does. It did me. Later..........

  • Truly breathtaking

    Love you.

  • All the greats in this movie gone now...giants of the screen.

  • Hawaii pre WW2....before the crowds, the huge hotels, statehood....must have been paradise!

  • una de mis tres peliculas junto con el buscavidas y cadena perpetua, tb el golpe puede

  • Fantastic to see three Greats of the Screen Lancaster Clift & Sinatra all in the one movie, one of my all time great films, memorable they sure don't make em like that anymore.

  • three? think you mean four, deborah kerr was a movie great just as much as them.

  • I have a question. In this movie, right before the famous kissing scene on the beach, isn't there a part where they run towards each other (on the beach) with their arms outstreched (to hug each other when they meet), or is that from Another movie?

  • I don't think that what U describe was in this movie

  • Hm, thanks. :)

  • Why this song is not on Abba Gold?

  • Film location: Scholfield Barracks Hawaii, real life home to the highly decorated 25th Infantry Division. My tour 1970-1973, 65th Engineer Battalion, unit clerk.

  • Your work was well put together along with the perfect music. I had placed this along with my other "Favorites" the first time I watched this! Burt Lancaster certainly took my breath away- the "SEXIEST MAN" alive!!!

  • Remember Dec 7th...always...what a terrific movie!!!!

  • What is the name of music?

Cuál es el titulo de la canción?

  • Happy Hawaii by ABBA

  • the chorus sounds like "why did it have to be me?"-another abba song.

  • Great clips! Clift is fantastic to watch. Thanks for uploading - though the music makes me want to stuff my ears with acorns. (so inappropriate, decade-wise - Abba?!)

She gave us the best years of her life and forever a point of reference for what

poise and grace should look like.

    Love Always.

  • RIP Deborah, you were the most beautiful woman in Hollywood.

  • Loved the book. Loved the movie. Loved your presentation. Will add it to my favourites. Thanks for putting it up.

  • wtf...

  • It's a great video...but at 47 seconds isn't that Elizabeth Taylor? Haha I've paused it on that frame 5 times trying to tell.

  • Yes, that's a clip from "A Place in the Sun," not sure why it's included here in FHTE.

  • Sorry, mea culpa.

  • Love it Love it! This was the first film I ever saw Monty in he was great! The music is fab!

  • One of my favourite movies ever. I saw it in an old theatre a few months ago that had been built in the '20s and it was such an amazing experience. Monty & Sinatra are WONDERFUL and they're amazing together in this movie. Thanks for such a great! tribute. :)!!

  • Thanks, I had much joy making this film.

An old film in and old theatre. Wow, I truly envy you!
