'Skunk' became a slang term for (sinsemilla) sativa bud, and was hyped in the tabloid media (Daily Mail) as a 'new, dangerous' form of weed.

They had to pretend that weed today is completely different than weed back in the sixties and when the present government officials went to college, and must be banned, because so many people know from personal experience how benign weed is.

Skunk #1 has been around since 1978 and is bred into most Duth weed varieties.

this is where the skunk myth comes from. the politicians admit to having a smoke but they can't sound like hypocrites when they talk about banning it so they invent skunk to justify it. why it's banned prohibition doesn't work.

And, 'skunk' is nothing more than sativa bud, as far as I can tell. But you're right, they have to create a difference between 'weed today' and the weed most 40-year olds (and older) know from personal experience.

They know how benign it is, and Jacqui Smith should no more say "I smoked at university, but it was wrong" than she should say "I drank a beer in college once, but it was wrong".
