F1 used to be so much more exciting, now because of all the safety regulations there is hardly any overtaking or wheel to wheel action. I remember when it was worth getting up at 6am to watch the race.
F1 used to be so much more exciting, now because of all the safety regulations there is hardly any overtaking or wheel to wheel action. I remember when it was worth getting up at 6am to watch the race.
Over 10 years ago I decided to simply stop watching F1. I've been a MotoGP fan ever since and I didn't look back. Much more competition, much more entertainment, no fucking pit stops. And oh, yeah, overtakes galore!
Great video. The only one missing was the greatest overtake of all time. nigel Mansell on Gerhard Berger round the Peratelda in mexico 1990. The best move ever
@chrismarkbicknell m asking coz i doubt that some vids are or GP2 or some other else...coz f1 cars never flew the wayit has been shown in this vid....
@5AMM0608 Oh, fair enough. From what I can see it is all F1. It was a different era though, especially in the 80s and 90s. Miss the days of Senna, Prost and Mansell
I JUST LOVE HOW F1 DRIVERS CAN BATTLE IT OUT I MEEN ITS AMAZING THE CONFIDENCE AND MOST OF ALL THE RESPEC THEY HAVE FOR EATCH OTHER I ADMIRE THE SKILL ITS AMAZING
Hakkinen surprises Schumacher (from 0:37 to 0:41). This was a memorable moment. Schumacher later explained he never saw Hakkinen coming from the inside.
yeah sod the mansell one at silverstone in 87 or the one in hungary 1989, oh and forget villeneuve snr against arnoux in 79 - i suggest u take a look at that on youtube - it deosn't get any more 'ballsy' than that.
thanks for the video-- do you know if anybody on youtube has footage of Zandvoort '75 and the battle between Hunt in the Hesketh and Niki Lauda in the Ferrari?
This is Gilles Villeneuve in his Ferrari vs. René Arnoux in a Renault Turbo at Dijon 1979. Jean-Pierre Jabouille won the race and Villeneuve finally got second, Arnoux third place.
Why in this video, 70% is just thrash overtaking ? When the engine is more strong than another? Where is Piquet x Senna in Hungary 86? The best overtaking of history isn't in this video.
Just so you know, 4:19 was the end of the 1979 French GP between Gilles Villeneuve (ferrari) and Rene Arnoux (Renault), widely considered the best battle for position ever in F1 history -and it was just for 2nd place since the race was won by Jabouille's Renault.
Yeah Hakkinen humiliated schumi, hill and senna 6 times. THAT IN SPA2000, ADELAIDE1994, ESTORIL1993, NUBURGRIND2000, and look at senna´s adversaries Prost,Mansell,Piquet,Schumacher at the end. Hakkinen Schumacher, he´s own car, Senna at 1993. Look at Schumacher, that alonso who makes mclaren been in a trouble,Hill that who he take out the drivers tittle, Viluenueve, start best than hamilton but in the middle to the end he was a bad driver. Hakkinen, the only good
I'm not denying there hasn't been some great over taking moves in the past couple of years, cause there has. However i find it so fustrating at times, when i car can be say 1-1.5 sec faster than the car infront, but just can't overtake cause they lose their aero following the car. Even when cars are evenly matched, overtaking seems near impossible at times.
Ah, true true. For example, the best part of the Indy race was an almost pass by Alonso. An ALMOST pass. People say the drivers aren't as good etc, and that if we had Senna or Villeneuve or whoever then the racing would be more exciting. No it wouldn't, Alonso and Hamilton and Kubica and Webber and Fisichella are all just as agressive as those two.
Although Jenson Button went on record as saying "You don't want to much over-taking otherwise it'll be like NASCAR"
That one was more about speed. V. v. good exit, very Kimi, and very good, but I prefer the more road-placement type overtakes, or maybe out-braking and out-positioning. Like say Alonso on Heidfeld (Magny-Cours) or Hamilton on Fisico (Nurburgring). Don't think I have a McLaren bias, because I would have mentioned Sato too, but you did. :)
When in doubt add Gilles Villeneuve.

@TopGearSH I think it was the 1979 French GP. It's Arnoux and Villeneuve.
There are plenty of videos uploaded, it's well worth a watch.
It's the best F1 battle of all time in my opinion.

Quality video+Music!
"No overtaking in F1"?? - they should watch this!
Best Battle: G.Villeneuve-René Arnoux (Dijon, 1979)
All-Time-Best Overtake: Hakkinen-Schumacher (SPA)
2nd best: Mansell-Piquet (1987)
Best Single-Lap Overtaking: Senna's 5-car overtake in the wet (Donnington,~1992)
Best Retake: Alesi's excellent retake of Senna (Phoenix,~1991); but within 1 lap, Senna did the same move again & this time made it stick!
Worst Move: Schumacher smashing into D.Hill to decide 1994 Championship.
