Yes, so it can accelerate plant growth, and also, I wonder if warehouses and streetlighting can use these bulbs, since they used less energy than metal halide.
Indeed, and that's also why many places are using fluorescent/LED lighting, instead of metal halide, which uses lots of energy, or sodium, which has poor color qualities.
Trust me. I am a very law abiding person, and I only use these lights for utility and demonstration purposes. Therefore, I do not grow anything illegal, because I do not want to risk the consequences.
@CaptainElevator42189 metal halide are upwards to 80 lumens per watt, they dont use much energy for their light output. and iv seen them as low as 80W
That is really amazing. Where can you find those 80 watt CFLs at? Do they have the standard socket like the regular 13 to 30 watt CFLs or is the socket bigger? Also is it a natural light (daylight) light bulb or is it more of a soft white, like the older incandesent light bulbs.
Ebay is a great place for these bulbs, and they have standard sockets, but the fixture size will need to be bigger to accomodate the bulbs. Also, they come in both warm incandescent & cool daylight white colors.
I have a clear 25watt incandescent light bulb in my lamp and it is soooooo bright LOL!!!! Oh and when it breaks, it doesn't let out and of that pesky poisoness Mercury gas that CFL's do, MUAHAHAHAH! I now have all my "CFL" bulbs outside the house after learning about how extremely dangerous they are. I guess when incandescent light bulbs are no longer sold, I will have to resort in candle light or lamps or something when all the ones I have burn out.
Well, I have my ups and downs about incandescent & fluorescent bulbs. I like incandescent, because of natural light and no mercury, but I do not like the low efficicency and short life. I like fluorescent because of its long life and energy efficiency, but I do not like the mercury in those bulbs. However, candles and oil lamps are not the only light sources. There are new LED bulbs with the long life, cool burning, energy savings, and natural light, but have no mercury, which are all great.
i found a 68 watt cfl thats puts out 4200 lumens, the only thing is its soft white, does any one know if that matters? I ask because i also foun some kick ass 2700 lumen bulbs that claim to throw off the full spectrum of the sun, and they seen to make my ganga boom.the 4200 looks more orange where as the 2700 are on the blue side.
just curious... what would you say the effective range of the light? (10 feet, 20 feet?). Im a photographer, looking to find a cheap solution for lighting :) --OUDAME--
Wow, now that was bright but to bad the camera dimmed to make the video darker but you can see how light it is from the start of the video before the image went dark, I suppose you should find an old camera and take the light bulb out of that and plug wires into it and see how light that would be
I bought some 13W bulbs like that one you have and we tried one in a living room lamp and it isn't all that bright. It said 13W=60W or something like that. What bulb should I buy if I want like 75W out of a normal light bulb?
I started collecting light bulbs in 2004, and the first CFL bulbs I got were in 2003. One is still working, but the other burned out after 4 years of use.
I know these bulbs have mercury in them, but the modern bulbs have less mercury than the older bulbs, and I do like the low and high capacity bulbs more than incandescent.
85 W is a small one.
"The largest CFL bulb ever made runs at 150-200 watts." No 300 W (but consume half energy).
fab9911 4 months ago
Yes, 200 watts is the highest capacity, but has a mogul base, so it can't fit in a regular socket, and they are also very expensive.
CaptainElevator42189 4 months ago
yes it is an little tall. but mine is 30 cm :)

@CaptainElevator42189 yes, i agree with that. and if you have your own illegal-cannabis-grow-house this will make you don't get caught.

Correct, so CFL, LED, and MH are considered the most efficient white light sources, and with MH, some are in 20, 35, 40, 50, and 70 watt capacities.
CaptainElevator42189 1 month ago
@CaptainElevator42189 dont forget LPS, HPS, mercury vapor, HID, OLED, and fluorescent tubes, and the UV emitting LPM!

Really?! I wonder what it would be like if there was a 1000 watt CFL bulb! That would be the world's biggest CFL bulb. Wow!

A place called 1000bulbs is better then ebay (way better lol
If for no other reason then to look at their immense collection of bulbs for sale

What is the use between a 7W CFL to this?
BedfordMarcus 1 year ago
I'm wondering about power factor for CFLs. What does a nominal 20watt bulb actually equate to in watts for the consumer?

Hi Capt, What brand is this?
I was looking for one for my garage and this could fill the bill.
would you recommend it or just using more of the smaller watt bulbs?
vanwahlgren 2 years ago
Preheat is the old style fluorescent, where is uses a starter to ignite the bulb, and I wonder why they use 23 watts instead of 25 watts.
CaptainElevator42189 2 years ago
What is "preheat"?
I believe our 100 Watt CFL uses 23 Watts.
robertgift 2 years ago
Now that's exciting.
CaptainElevator42189 2 years ago
I have a 250 watt (actual wattage) CFL 6500k, 13,500 lumens
Yorboxl 2 years ago 2
@Yorboxl where did you get that ?
zacBlondie 1 year ago
I got it off Ebay for only $15, as opposed to $40-$50 from a light bulb store.
CaptainElevator42189 1 year ago
Actually, this is a 150 watt bulb, not 80 or 85, and it takes a few seconds for this massive bulb to reach full brightness.
CaptainElevator42189 2 years ago
How long does it take to get to full brightness?
85 watts = 300 watts incandescent?
Thought it would be more.
What is "preheat"?
How does it have 80 and 85 watt settings?
Thank you.
robertgift 2 years ago
That's correct, and they come in warm white for industrial use, cool white for photographic use, and blacklight.

Even with another camera, it would dim, since the camera adjusts the light.
CaptainElevator42189 3 years ago
Is that bad for the camera lens, or is it just made to do that?

The bulbs of 18-21 watts are equal to 75 watt incandescent, while 22-28 watts are equal to 100 watts.
CaptainElevator42189 3 years ago
