Bill Lowery, owner of WGST radio station in Atlanta wrote this song about 1950. It was issued on Decca records, Lowery shouting out the lyrics ahead of a choir which repeated his lines. Lowery explained on the air that this was the "old time" way church singing was done before hymnals were in widespread use. Bill Lowery had a great personality and later headed the Lowery Music Group, discovering such entertainers as Ray Stephens and others. The original version of this was most dramatic.
Bro and Sis Savage just preached for as a couple weeks ago and the night they sang this song... I didn't think we were going to have preaching :) they are mightily annointed and a true blessing!!
I REALLY APPRECIATE THIS KIND OF MUSIC AND SINGING! Sadly, I don't hear much of it in our churches anymore. It seems like the youth and most younger preachers are more into the rock and pop sounding music than the good ole traditional gospel that I was raised on. I've left campmeetings disappointed more than once! Thanks so much for posting this great song! I really am thankful for the Savages still singing and living the old time way! Praise the Lord!
Thats my pastor and his wife :)
