  • lol this is so cheesy compared to the new Star Trek movie. This is boring and hard to understand...who wants to see that? I want to see flashy imagery and cool special effects. JJ Abrams is a genius

  • @VitalSigns1 Oh yeah? That's what you think! I love this!

  • Where the hell can I find the music of when he's flying into it's maw? I've searched everywhere but all I can find is that stupid amok time music.

  • @Kansho it's on a CD, Vol2. As for online downloadable sources can't say for sure.

  • @Kansho Kansho, send me an email, I will send it to you.

  • What about Scotty?!? Is he ok?!? How does he get off?

  • Kirk RAN off the transporter pad without saying anything because he had to change his pants. 2:46

  • There.. are 4.. lights!!!.. and one of them is pink?? ~^_^~ remastered TOS is so cool!

  • Superb Job!!!

  • I can only guess what Kirk was about to shout into his communicator at 2:42 - probably wasn't very nice, though.

  • Sounds similar to the music from the movie Jaws, Only Way Way before the Jaws movie.

  • just get a big alien to eat that bugle and wash it dowm with a cosmic coca cola

  • What I don't understand is why didn't the Crew of the Enterprise use phasers or photon torpedoes directly in front of the planet killer....

  • @jolly704 oh because it just ate things like that.. they had already blown up a whole shuttle in the mouth of the thing.. the biggest most powerful explosive they had left was the warp core of the starship.. and they HOPED that would be enough ne? What i wondered was why they did not just jetison the warp core from the ship and send IT into the planet killer?

  • @jolly704 Because their photon torpedoes aren't working and the phasers aren't area affect. Earlier in the episode they mention their antimatter has been "deactivated" which mean no warp drive and no torpedoes.

  • love the expression on his face at 1:52-1:54 as he approaches the planet killer after being told the transporter is down again.

  • and thus spock realizes that although Kirk is reckless and illogical, he's a hell of a lot better than any other Starfleet captain.

  • Oops. That should have read, 'cl OU d-creature'. Silly me. Just a wild thought, here after making fun of directors; What if that movie had been filmed by Sam Raimi?! Frank Capra? George Lucas! McCoy & Spock prepare for a transporter beam-up(out?), "Don't you call ME illogical you pointy eared green blooded Vulcan! Now step off of there before somebody sees you!" Sorry, just having some speculative fun...

  • I would love to see this in the UU mod

  • What is this dramatic music called?

  • Scotty saves the day just like in Star Trek (2009)!

  • After the Timeline is Repaired years from Now, The Enterprise which ha Dragon's Teeth in it's Arsenal should be Altered Subtly, Her Engines should Glow Bright Blue on the Inboards, The Upper Grilles on the Engine Struts should glow Subtly Deep Red, Her Phaser Guns should be better seen and placed all around the ship so she is Better Armored. The Enterprise's Name Plates, Hull Numbers, and Red Striped Pennants should Illuminate, Her Forward Antenna and behind it should Light Up Brightly

  • Just picked up all 3 seasons on Bluray. The enhancements are really well done. Its great that they also give you teh option to watch them in thier original untouched versions. Highly recommended

  • Damn, the Shat's looking hot here.

  • The Doomsday machine was my favorite Startrek episode

  • The scoring for this whole scene was EPIC! Great job with the enhance!

  • No I miss the shitty AMT models that had melted plastic in this episode. (sarcasm)

  • @Fooblestheclown lol agreed!!!, God what great new visuals to supplement Commodore Decker tragic yet heroic story was is now totally outstanding as the new fx helped put this up with Anything current in scifi,.. movies or tv! IMHO merry Christmas. again. ;o)

  • @Utubetrekk ....there's a snack by General Mills called bugles that look just like the Planet killer. Somebody should make a parody of this clip by using those materials.

  • @Fooblestheclown lol thats funny, i looked it up on google, it also looks suspiciously like my grandmothers "horn'oplenty", which held grapes and fruits at Festival times!, still though getting back to the episode?, the new fx really do help enhance the already great story in every way. ;D

    Sophia

  • @Fooblestheclown Or ask General Mills to make blue Bugles. Miniature Planet Killers that assault your tongue with flavor!

  • @GoGojiraGo ROFL!

  • Very good! One of my best trek episodes! 

  • Way to go, replacing that static "dead" machine of the original clip with one that slowly and helplessly spins and tumbles. I think that's a vast improvement. Yay for modern technology.

  • Yes, It was not Trek's finest moment, tho' it had a few good things about it. Curl Urban as McCoy was dead on! Inspired, even! I also liked the choices for Sulu, Chekov & Scotty, tho' it seemed like the creators in charge didn't care about the characters LOOKING LIKE the the characters! A major disappoinment was that we didn't see Kirk's time on the Faragut & the dicromium cloud-creature incident. Or Gary introducing the 'little blond lab technician' to Kirk(Carol Marcus!!!) and other events.

  • @Velocity9s You don't try to cram three seasons of a show into one movie. Just ask Shamalamadingdong about "The Last Airbender".

  • @GoGojiraGo HEH! Shamalamdingdong...funny! Well, eliminate certain things like DADDY Kirk's scenes & maybe Uhura's quarter's scene & inscert a practical joke by Finnagin, Gary introducing Carol Marcus(obviously 'that little blond lab-technician') & Kirk's failure to act against the cload-creature aboard Farugut your covered. With an off-hand line about how grimm Kirk was(supposed to be!)at the academy & perhaps an allusion to his romantic escapades & you've got brief & BETTER opening scenes.

  • @Velocity9s Maybe, but all that has nothing to do with the movie.

They're making more anyways, let's just wait and see what nods and homages they put in.

  • Too short! I want to see it all! Very good what u have now! Thanks!!!

  • And yes, I was paraphrasing Lee.J.Cobb in the James Cobern-Flint flicks.

  • Kirk's looking hot in that shirt. :)

  • this was the first episode i ever watched. been hooked ever since.

  • My favorite ST TOS episode.

  • Definitely one of the best TOS episodes. However, the thing that has always bugged me about this episode is the design of the planet killer. It's always reminded me of a Bugle snack. LOL

  • kirk was not convincing. he didn't act like a man who was 60 seconds from dying in an explosion. he looked too relaxed about it.

  • @GlobalDating No, he was getting tence. Notice the edge in his voice while he tries to remain authoritative. He was underscoring the gravity of the situation as he stated flatly, "Gentlemen...I suggest you beam me aboard." Besides, He's often like that. How many times has he gone head to head with far superior opponants? This is much the same--to look danger IN YOUR FACE! Thats why he's Kirk!

  • @Velocity9s yes! ..the same Kirk as always even when he faces the loss of his friend Spock in The Wrath of Khan, he held his dignity, Bill Shatners Kirk IS THE Kirk! and nobody can ever replace him . certainly not that Wesley crushed boy/Chris pine wannabe Kirk. (horrible movie)

Sophia 19, Vassar College, now going skiing on winter break

  • Listen to the music at 1:34. This has got to be where the Jaws theme came from. It's even in the same key.

  • NOT BAD !!! , GOOD JOB

  • This is my favorite episode from the original series!!!

  • Search for Norman Spinrad The Doomsday Machine Reloaded on youtube, and he'll explain why the doomsday machine looks like a windsock dipped in cement, and other fun facts (he wrote the episode).

  • The author, Nonrman Spirnad, explains why the Doomsday machine looks like a windsock dipped in cement, and other fun facts: youtube.com/watch?v=758fT5Ov590

  • My favorite scene from my favorite episode from my favorite ST:TOS! What a great job with the enhancement! Everyone is great here but James T. Kirk is at his absolute coolest.

  • Love the look on Kirk's face at 1:52/1:53 as he learns the transporter is out again and he's stuck racing into the planet killer. Keep your cool, Kirk!

  • @transformersforever The way his cheek twitches...

  • Graet new book (DId these stories really happen?), at amazon, with Shatner dedication!

  • @Bestmanme08 Excuse me "Great"!

  • One of the best episodes and there were many in the original series. Hard to understand why it only lasted three seasons.

  • Fantastic my faviorate star trek vidio! How can I see it all?

  • The doomsday machine's inside was more scary in the 60s tho

  • The Doomsday Machine in the original fashion looked like a giant Bugle snack in the red bag.

  • Scotty tells Spock that Kirk's gotta get his ass off the ship immediately, and then Spock conveniently forgets to relay this information to Kirk. A clear power grab on Spock's part: you can almost hear him shout "Yes!" when Kyle announces that the transporter has shorted out again.

  • NOOOOOOOO not scotty!! :( he was always my favorite from TOS

  • Kirk right before transport:

You guys can suck my ba-*Bwwooooooorrrnnnng*

  • I Love the new special effects but the tactics are Flawed, usless waste of the Constellation, Kirk needed not risk his life doing that, same thing could have been done by outfitting a Shuttlecraft with anti-matter extracted from the warp engines, placed in a magnetic bottle and loaded onto a Shuttlecraft and remote piloted it into it's mouth, same effect, not to mention the non-use of Photon Torpedoes, what happened to them anyway > why not fire them into it's mouth ?

  • slickyboy: You are a funny dude. I thought the same thing about the torpedos. I would have just held the button and never stopped firing them. Just the sound of them blasting off is enough to hold the button down for a long time.

  • I read somewhere that the Doomsday Machine was designed by it's creators to be used as an anti-Borg weapon.

  • That was in the TNG novel called "Vendetta". This one shown here was a proto-type. In the novel it was a lot bigger. The story itself would have made an excellent movie as it had the Doomsday Machine, three Borg vessels, the Ferengi, the Tholians and two other starships involved in battle. Good book.

  • They don't show the transporter operators saying "A simple thank-you would have been nice. We did just save your life. Ungrateful bastard."

  • people don't say bye in the future apparently. in TNG it was always -ends transmission- and maybe if you were lucky 'picard, out'. lol. how rude.

  • They were using like, miles. Huh-huh. Huh-huh-huh.

  • This is probably my favourite TOS episode.

  • Sometimes I have this terrible nightmare where the Doomsday machine is slowly approaching my bumhole and I can hear that menacing music playing the whole time. It slowly gets closer and closer, just like in this clip.

  • lol

  • This is one of my favorite episodes of all time (including some of the modern series and movies). With Star Trek Online pictures, the Doomsday device is back. I wonder, if its the same one and it was just weakened to a very very very bad condition and it self repaired? (Took a few dozen years - or if the new Doomsday device is... new...

  • I remember catching this on TV a few months ago.. not knowing they had remastered it like this. Blew my mind. I loved it :)

  • Was looking forward to this enhancement; and was not disappointed. Am an old ST fan as was born in 1951.

Remember when ST first aired and was very pleased to see an intelligent SF show on TV for a change. Gene, Majel, DeForest, James; I met all of them at least once and in some cases twice, you are missed.

  • Me too, saw it when it aired on NBC.

  • I do tend to be a purist so I hold dear the original version of this episode, cheesy AMT Constellation and all. However, I do enjoy the new CGI as well. I especially enjoyed how the CGI Constellation, upon powering up it's impulse engines, responds when Scotty manipulates a control lever to increase power. Well done.

  • Who's the guy to the right of Mr. Kyle? Looks like he did most of the beaming work to me! ;)

  • Nicely done....they should release all the original episodes w/ enhanced effects.

  • They did.

  • Nope!! Sorry!! The original was far better.....this is almost as bad as colourizing a black and white movie.

  • I agree with you. The series was produced in the '60s. Why not accept what technology offered in the 60s? It's all of a piece, and all of it is thoroughly satisfying. The original series, as drama/action/adventure/SF and even comedy, is far beyond most of what passes for entertainment today.

  • I've got a different viewpoint.

I appeciate that Star Trek has endured for so long and is still so appreciated that they want to go back and update what they can. Can "Lost in Space" say that? "Sea Hunt"?

  • You're right about the series' quality, but I insist that there's a pervasive tendency to "improve" things, whether it be an antique, a work of art, a room, or a TV series. Star Trek is what it is. I've always thought that the drama and character interactions were so sound that they could've produced it on an empty stage with no special effects, costumes or decor at all. It's that good. To enhance the effects is to emphasize a relatively insignificant detail. I respect your opinion, though.

  • The tendency is to have a fixation on High Definition. Sadly, those old model shots would never hold up with that.

  • What a load. Roddenberry would have LOVED to have had this when he was producing the show. He was always fighting for more fx money, to give the show more of a real feel. Hell, that's why transporter technology was invented, because it cost too much to use a landingcraft to get people from ship to planet or ship to ship.

  • Because you are accepting LOW QUALITY CRAP that Roddenberry was forced to accept.

I have no doubts Roddenberry would love this stuff.

  • Shatner dedication in great new bio (All About Jeffrey Hunter) at amazon!

  • Nicely enhanced. Indeed a great episode.

  • ENTERPRISE BEAM ME UP -

    ENERGIZE !!

  • Just as cool as the original.

  • This episode was amazing. Tight plot, sacrifice, acting, good music....

  • Then you should also watch the Star Trek Phase II episode "In harm's way".

  • why the fuck is spock telling scotty how to do HIS job?

  • Because he's the first officer.

  • @kazlara He only suggested what to do.

  • Looks awesome, thanks for posting it.

  • Mr. Kyle's finest moment!

  • @colezig37

And not even a 'Thank you' from Kirk!

  • Sulu looks like he's just barely holding it together.

  • Yeah really. Takei really played it up.

  • Gentlemen,I sugest that you beam me aboard!

  • Washburn should have checked the 2-G-6 circuit. seemed to do wonders on the Constellation's view screen...

  • Does that mean you f'd yourself?

  • try inverse phasing..

  • Yeah, my toilet was clogged the other day, and inverse phasing did the trick. Also, my girl wouldn't get intimate with me unless I tried inverse phasing in bed, and now she can't get enough.

  • "Yeah, my toilet was clogged the other day, and inverse phasing did the trick."

Or you could reverse the polarity of the Neutron flow. And if that fails you reboot the pattern buffer. NOTHING clears out a toilet like Rebooting the pattern buffer!

  • OMG!!!!! cracked up so hard roflmao

  • lol i actualy hear that they now feature enhanced eppisodes like this in a TOS/TMP DVD box set :D lol.

  • Oh yeah!!!

I remember the first night that they aired the "enhanced" episodes. I was like, "hey, I don't remember them looking that good!" Very cool

Tomorrow, I'm moving out of my parents basement....I KID, I KID! Actually, I'm a Trekkie.

  • Awesome. When I was a little kid, that scene had me at the edge of my seat.

  • This is on right now. I had to find it to make sure I wasn't going crazy because the FX looked newer than I remember lol. Where can you get/see the enhanced episodes? Are there many of them?

ps: The new movie is awesome.

  • This was definitely one of my favorite episodes

  • I have'nt seen this episode what's it about?

It looks good if I can eer find it.

  • It's about a machine that destroys planets and then uses the remains for fuel.

The machine came from a distant galaxy and was used by some other race which was probably destroyed by it. The Enterprise is stopping it before it reaches the heart of our galaxy.

  • Ok. Thanks. Now I really want to see it.

  • The music, the story - this is one of the best stories of Star Trek. And now these digital enhancements! Wow!

  • "A cranky transporter is a mighty finicky piece of machinery to be gambling your life on Sir"

  • These enhanced episodes are so cool, I watch them every saturday, waiting to see balance of terror enhanced

  • I can't eat a Cornetto without thinking of this old episode.of star trek.

  • Lol! ^.^

  • When eating Bugles (a cone-shaped corn snack I call DMs,of course) , as I eat the last one i invariably go "duhDUM duhDUM duhDUM".

    Thought it was just me!

  • I am in no way a Star Trek fan, but I have to say the actual Doomsday Machine is one of the greatest fucking things I have ever seen.

  • According to the site that remixed the whole series with the updated effects, the entire soundtrack had been redone using the original score and quantity of musicians and their instruments. It was recorded with todays modern Hi-fidelity digital machines. The quality of sound is superior. Since the music was redone exactly as it written it sounds identical to the original..only better.

  • Regardless of what has been written..or read the incidental music, or soundtrack has NOT been redone. The THEME was re-done. This is still the original music, just re-mastered like everything else. To re-do every cue and note of music would take a tremendous amount of time and money. If they had that much money, believe me the new effects would be better then they are here.. not that these aren't great. But I know every note of music in these episodes. Trust me, it's still the original music.

  • "To the Late U.S.S. Constellation!......Another brave constitution-class starship DOOMED!"

  • make that the il fated Constellation lol.

  • Now that was the most bad-ass mead horn I've ever seen, lol :)

  • This was such a great episode.

  • I understand they even re-performed the music for these episodes. The music is essential for this, and they did a great job. I love the suspense it adds.

  • They only re-recorded the opening theme. The rest of the music in the show is same as the originals.

  • Love Sulu's voice.

  • Does it ever load?

  • heh i highly doubt we all will be seeing the last of the planet killer aka the Doomesday Machine for a long long time.

  • Comment removed

  • Thoroughly enjoyed it! Seen it like, ten million times in my life, but these clips over a cup of coffee early in the morning is just what I needed to wake up. One of the best TOS episodes, the enhanced effects gives it the sizzle it deserves.

  • why does this take forever to load? it's like the only video on YouTube that's like this

  • Always wanted to know, since 1967? What was the curse word Scotty said at 1:33 seconds?

  • I'm not sure what to think about the digital enhancements. The old "ice cream cone" was pretty scary. What I don't like is that the whole episode looks too much like the Star Trek Enterprise season 4 episode "Through a Mirror Darkly". I love that 2-parter in a parallel universe, but the tone of that episode does not belong in Star Trek TOS.

  • I agree. Loved the original planet killer alot better. Something about that inner core, and the way it slowly turned around to pursue the Enterprise.

  • that inner core i belive is the powersource of the planet killer's Domesday beam or force beam if u call it lol yes there is indeed something about that inner core that makes the Doomseday machine so interesting

  • I fliped the other night when I found out the Constellation was in UU ^^. Was disapointed it wasant in the pc version and I dont think it was in the 360 version either. Would be awsome to see a PK battle inserted into UU ^^

  • Would be cool in some parts, but ultimatly a fool hardy battle. That thing would be like battling the giant planet debri with just phasers.

  • I don;t know what everyone is so impressed about. The graphics were rushed. They could have done way better. It reminds me of early 3d rom games. Bullshit cartoon looking IMB computer ships. The overall restoration is great don't get me wrong. It looks like a fucking part store flashlight. The old doomsday machine looked better rusticly.

  • Agree with the last statement pan.

  • Please dont smack me around for asking this question: Anyone notice a slight resemblence between William Shatner and Sidney Poitier?

  • Yes, the transporter explosion is quite good, imagine the transporter operators thoughts "S***, that emitter pad is dead, switching to pad 'B'"" Now that one is out!!" The nervous "500 miles and closing" is perfect! Kirks running off the transporter pad is excellent, highlights the tension of the situation. All i all the very best drama of its kind.

  • Yeah. Takei really played that one up real well.

  • HAHAHAHA love the explosion at 1:28 makes me laugh hard is hell!!! this is why i love this star trek way better and no other one but i really hate the remade one the old is better.

  • I love STAR TREK TOS for the fact it was SO CHEESY yet so INCREDIBLE. Even by today's standards TOS was the best SCI FI Series EVER.

This remastered bit looks decent but I have grown accustomed to the old style since it shows how far we've come when you compare it to todays works.

  • I love the doo-doo, doo-doo, doo-doo music part, and sulu counting down exactly along wit the music.

    Constellation pwns

  • I agree with you on that dramatic music suite. BTW, those same music notes (E & F), done at a faster tempo, were what John Williams used for his famous "Jaws" theme eight years later.

  • Sulu face is the look of love when Kirk comes on to the bridge.

  • Thats wrong , but funny. Who knew?

  • Don't take it in a gay sense. More of hero worship and being a dedicated officer.

  • I still chuckle at the 1:50 to 1:55 part as it looks like Kirk's gonna drop a brick when he hears the transporter is down. Don't lose it now, Kirk!

  • Thanks for posting this. I enjoyed it.

As I understood it, the doomsday machine is a metaphor for the (then ongoing) nuclear arms race.

  • ChrisJ thanks for doing that, great TV

  • It's simply out of nostalgia that I miss the original cheesy effects (including the worst rear projections in the series' history) but DAMN, what an improvement...

  • I know what you mean about being nostalgic with the 40-year-old effects. I do like some of the little suttleties they added. For example, you can see the Constellation kind of listing back and forth a little as it approached the planet killer, which I'm guessing has to do with using warp drive control circuits to operate the impulse engines. I enjoy little details like that.

  • S-man the listing is when the prop crew didn't move the fishing lines smooth enough / but that's fine seems like a 50's Sci-Fi that way!

  • I always thought it odd that the original unremastered version showed the shuttle the same size as the Enterprise compared to the Doomsday Machine. Was wondering if the remastered fx fixed this...

  • excellent would like to see you turn ure talent to the enterprise incedent episode tos

  • Doomsday Machine vs Borg Cube.I wonder how that would turn out

  • Find and read the star trek book Vendetta, you'll have your wish! In the book, it is discovered that this machine is a prototype built to combat the borg. The machine in Vendetta is the actual machine and it is 1000's of times bigger.

  • Id love to read that book now. I imagine the Planet Killer woulkd win though, because I can total a planet. Dont Sspoil it for me though :)

  • Its by far the best star trek book out there! I highly recommend it! I read it in like 2 days because I couldnt put it down.

  • Thats funny, cause another Peter David Novel I read, Q squared was just as good And I read it in just as much time. XDDDDDDD

  • Really? Im reading doomsday world right now, Ill pick that one up soon as I can!

  • this was the first epidode i saw it got me hooked on star trek

  • season 2 just got released on the 5th to buy outright

  • This is episode was the first ever video I bought in Woolworths in Glasgow. The other episode on the tape was Wolf in the Fold, though when I first got Doomsday Machine, I might have actually confused the episode with The Tholian Web, cause similar sort of situation - derelict starship, Kirk stays behind etc.
