my 106 gti was very reliable despite very obvious shoddy build quality, but then mine was bought from a middle aged coulple and was well looked after. Handling wasnt the best tho, seemed very light at the back end while the zs i drove was very predictable understeer filling you with confidence on a back road blast
you do realise that the VTR's from year 2000 got the power put up to 100BHP? Thats why there slightly quicker in a straight and plus they weigh nothing. Just thought id let you know, was bored lol

Compare CivicTypeR (200bhp) and Clio Sport(182bhp),and see who wins - although Clio lacks 18bhp,he is still faster arround the track,even till 200kph. Honda and VTEC are good,but not something worth dieing for. There are tons of other good engines,that trully amazing,like this one developed with Yamaha (yes,al Zetec's are Ford & Yamaha's engenierings)

the standard suspension on a fiesta zs is much better than that on the saxo, which means in real life, on twisty B roads the fiesta is going to be much quicker.
depends if ur talkin about a phase 1 vtr 90 bhp or a phase 2 vtr 100 bhp. anyways, this zs only had a pipercross panel filter and beat a lot of cars that were supposed to be quicker by the book
Fords are always a little reserved on their quoted figures, 0-60 is supposedly 10.1s but you can get around 9.5 without too much effort and a top end is 114 quoted but you can get 120mph no sweat.
not strictly true as 8v engines have alot more torque than 16v, top end a 16v will always cum out on top of it's 8v counterpart, but not off the line :)
id say the saxo would slighly beat the fiesta if you had a good driver who could change gears quick enough. saxo's are more fun to drive but alot less safe id rather the fiesta feels safer and better built all u gotta do is chip it and its level peggins with a vtr :)
i have owned a mk2 saxo vtr and now i own a zetec-s. I honestly dont think there is much in it performance wise but im much happier now i own my zetec-s, it is less chavvy and i feel more respectable driving it :)
My first and only time in the back of a Saxo VTR was whilst some lass was feeling my knob, Now this kinda explains it all really, The young driver in the front(i dident know him he was giving us a lift back from town trying to pull the other girl that was with us)was shouting LOOK! im doing a ton 10! the engine was screaming its balls off and it wasent very comfortable for me either as you could probably tell. jonny if you knew anything about driving you would know: in order to get best aceleration you change gear just above the power band (the zs powerband is approx 6550) this way as the revs drop when you engage the clutch, by the time you stick the throttle back open the evs will just be falling bak into the powerband rather than having to clime from below. hence why camhadcore is changing over 6550 rpm. hes obviously a clued up driver. and on the contrary; your not

Everyone on zsoc agrees the average 0-60 time for a standard mk 5 zs is around 9 and a half seconds, top speed varies, Last weekend I got mine to 130 mph on the clock but it was on a slight downhill and you also have to knock a few mph off as apparently at that speed the analogue speedo isent accurate. They are faster than a vtr in a straight line but the vts is quicker due to it having more horsepower, Handleing wise the zs is proven to be the best.
Yep my Zetec S was about 9.5 standard, and got mine to 135mph downhill I had Satnav in the car too it was showing 129mph : ) Also I had a 1.25 and that was about 12.5 seconds as you sat :) those 3 seconds make all the difference though the Zetec S feels great!

french cars are a bit shitty. renaults best of bad bunch. 172 cup probly worse inside than other clio sports, but thats cos they stripped out to be lighter and quicker. my mate used to have coupe turbo, are pretty quick, but not necessarily a fun drive. clio is awesome, probly give yours a going over in straight line, but would destroy you round bends. you'd kill yourself trying to keep up
hmm don't know about that, depends on the driver aswell and how much balls he has. besides if it was a a straight the clio will only go to 134ish whilst the astra will do 150mph. yeah i know they were stripped down to save like 0.2 sec's to 60, didn't do much to be honest if you think about it still a nice car but i prefer the astra to be honest, easier to tune aswell with it being a turbo.
i did 133 on motorway in zetec s. in clio had race with a 2.2 honda prelude in sheff and did 143. so 134ish a bit under estimated. i test drove an astra gsi, and was pretty sharp in 2nd and 3rd, but just felt uncomfortable round bends. how long you had yours? thinkin bout upgradin mine now. lookin at an 02 plate m3, but we're talking 16k +. so dunno. i'd like a clio v6, but i've got a house now, so not particularly practical lol

ZS's have only 102bhp and 140NM of torque at 4k , saxo VTR's are quicker on the straight when they only have 89bhp

i have a 1.25 zetec s, im 17 and it does me fine. its quick enough for me and they are quite nippy. The insurance is also not bad.
No one is pretending a fiesta is a contender for the worlds faster car but for what it is, its fucking brilliant!

the 0-60 on the vtr and zetec s is exactly the same its the saxo that has a higher top speed of 3mph

i have owned a mk2 saxo vtr and now i own a zetec-s. I honestly dont think there is much in it performance wise but im much happier now i own my zetec-s, it is less chavvy and i feel more respectable driving it :)

My first and only time in the back of a Saxo VTR was whilst some lass was feeling my knob, Now this kinda explains it all really, The young driver in the front(i dident know him he was giving us a lift back from town trying to pull the other girl that was with us)was shouting LOOK! im doing a ton 10! the engine was screaming its balls off and it wasent very comfortable for me either as you could probably tell. This is what happens in most VTR'S im sure. Im 24 now and feel the ZS is more grown up

110 and the engine was screaming, must hav been a mk1 non silver top, i had mine sitting at 125 at around 5500rpm an that was standard,and any zetec S that i kno of, is not as torquey as a vtr, and another thing, look at it this way, your comparing a 1.6 16v woth a 1.6 8v, why not compare it with the 16v saxo, thats right, its no comparessin, n if ur goin to say i dnt kno shit about ford,fords suck, at least they circled the problem,n yes, i work for ford, n it sucks too..

and also, go talk about your mk 1 cammed saxo somehwere else, like to the 12 year old girls on your council estate, cause you dont impress anyone here. as mentioned below, the fact that its cammed and your comparing it to a stock fiesta says it all. i have zetec s' and they would piss all over your cammed bag of shite, and they will still be able to drive home after, they wont be in peices on the floor beause of two reasons: they ae french tin cans, and the driver is a complete cock.

jonny if you knew anything about driving you would know: in order to get best aceleration you change gear just above the power band (the zs powerband is approx 6550) this way as the revs drop when you engage the clutch, by the time you stick the throttle back open the evs will just be falling bak into the powerband rather than having to clime from below. hence why camhadcore is changing over 6550 rpm. hes obviously a clued up driver. and on the contrary; your not

a phase 2 vtr i raced my old gsi corsa against my vtr and my gsi was slightly faster and u talk bollox sayin ive beaten loads of gsi s there arent many on the road now u mite have beaten an sri which is a 1.4 gsi corsa s r 109 bhp standard go on google type in letstorquebhp and it gives u stats on the three cars and that website doesnt lie

ur an idiot 'camhardcore'. max power runs out before the rev limiter kicks in on most cars. hitin the limiter in everygear isnt the way to do it. knowing when to change gear before u start losing power is. zetec s's are shite i piss over them in my cammed mk1 vtr all the time.

i agree. ive had a mk1 zs (totally standard) for 2 yrs and ive done 120 easy on a number of occasions - on the flat. it'll do some more but i just didnt want to push it too much, or get caught!
Fair point that its probably not actually that much cos speedo's over estimate but they do on nearly all cars so its all relative.
p.s. dont u just love the old vtr vs ZS debate! lol

top speed ive had 120 easily on a straight (RAF cosford airfield) and it did appear i could go faster, but i was worried about the tyres blistering in the heat.
agreed vts is faster, but look at the state of it, the fiesta has curves at least

Everyone on zsoc agrees the average 0-60 time for a standard mk 5 zs is around 9 and a half seconds, top speed varies, Last weekend I got mine to 130 mph on the clock but it was on a slight downhill and you also have to knock a few mph off as apparently at that speed the analogue speedo isent accurate. They are faster than a vtr in a straight line but the vts is quicker due to it having more horsepower, Handleing wise the zs is proven to be the best.

Yep my Zetec S was about 9.5 standard, and got mine to 135mph downhill I had Satnav in the car too it was showing 129mph : ) Also I had a 1.25 and that was about 12.5 seconds as you sat :) those 3 seconds make all the difference though the Zetec S feels great!

I've just been in one of these. I'm 18stone and the driver is 14stone and without any mods and with me timing it on a stop watch. 0 - 60 in 6.74secs. I don't believe the factory standard crap. I own a rover 416i, factory standard. est 0 - 60 11s ive done it in 9 dead.

Yes it is standard, what would be the pont in lying? Just depends on the driver aswell though. I guess you under estimate the power of the ford im affraid, paperwork isnt everything you know. By the way its a phase 1 not the new ones you fool, you not tell by the dials? What car do you drive then if the zetec-s is so "crap"?

i loved my zetec s. imperial blue. hit wall bout 12 months ago and wrote it off. gutted. astra turbo bit of a dodgy choice tho. like all vauxhalls, bit plasticy, and not very good with lots of power. dunno how fella above used 30 quid in 2 months. i used to do that in a week, lol. got a clio 172 cup now. loadsa fun

You smashed it! hey well no offense but you just bought a french car lol- mistake! And its the mark 4 astra coupe version and it aint that plastic on the inside well... compared to the clio anyway its less, i was goping to buy a 172 cup but the inside put me off and wanted a bigger car.

french cars are a bit shitty. renaults best of bad bunch. 172 cup probly worse inside than other clio sports, but thats cos they stripped out to be lighter and quicker. my mate used to have coupe turbo, are pretty quick, but not necessarily a fun drive. clio is awesome, probly give yours a going over in straight line, but would destroy you round bends. you'd kill yourself trying to keep up

hmm don't know about that, depends on the driver aswell and how much balls he has. besides if it was a a straight the clio will only go to 134ish whilst the astra will do 150mph. yeah i know they were stripped down to save like 0.2 sec's to 60, didn't do much to be honest if you think about it still a nice car but i prefer the astra to be honest, easier to tune aswell with it being a turbo.

i did 133 on motorway in zetec s. in clio had race with a 2.2 honda prelude in sheff and did 143. so 134ish a bit under estimated. i test drove an astra gsi, and was pretty sharp in 2nd and 3rd, but just felt uncomfortable round bends. how long you had yours? thinkin bout upgradin mine now. lookin at an 02 plate m3, but we're talking 16k +. so dunno. i'd like a clio v6, but i've got a house now, so not particularly practical lol

yeah they're 2 seater. all back seatin area is the engine mount. fuckin ludicrous really for a tiny car. was also looking at evo 7's, but dunno, and alfa 147 gta but bout as reliable as all other alfa's. got 24 hr test drive in new leon cupra today, so gunna thrash that before handin it back. need to grow up really

114ish, where were you going, and up what hill. Might have helped to take the cement bags out of the boot also! I get 122 out of a 1.25 Z standard on a straight (not on a hill). The ZS is good for at least 130.
