FFXI was an awesome game. Played it for a little over a year. Unfortunately it takes too much time, and there was way too much time spent sitting around trying to get a group started, and I just wasn't able to get as far into the story as I would've liked. :(
When did you quit? the game is so much easier now and way more user friendly. You can get things done a lot faster, depending on what you are trying to achieve.
@griggins You should consider going back now. The game has been vastly improved with a level cap of 90 and unbelievably fast level ups. They've also removed the level restrictions on boss fights and CoP areas meaning you can get all story content done solo or with low man groups. I went back a few months ago and I've already gotten through way more than I did when I played years ago.
I came back to the game about a couple months ago and have started having fun again. After having played for almost 6 years straight, I got burnt out on waiting hours or even days just to get one invite. I had lost the fun I once had.
However, after coming back, I have started enjoying myself once again, which is pretty cool. I got my THF from 52 to 90 in a couple days, which would have taken me many months to even get that far. In the end, when I log on, I'm now having fun. :)
Also consider if you are playing an MMO like ffxi you are not spending as much money on other things EI: Other video games which run for like 60-70$ brand new and if you buy a few of those a month which only have like 5-10 hour play time..... or renting movies...really this game has saved me more money in the long run.

This song is played during my most favorite battle in the whole game, ive done it more than 20 times and I still love it. The music is amazing :D :D

@griggins It's even more casual now. It's easy to get to level 99 and enjoy the story with 1-2 friends.

Around 12 bucks a month, or something within that vicinity. First month is free.

Yeah, it's a bit steep, but for as much world as there is in FFXI, I'd say it balances out.
