  • Score and Orchestral parts for The Lark Ascending can be found at SheetMusicX [dot] com

  • Incredibly wonderful!

  • If there's a heaven so beautiful, then please lead me there

if its where the innocence of my youth prevails, then show me to where.

lets take flight like the lark so careless and free,

To once again be in unity, those lost, you and me.

  • What agreat exquisite piece of music.Turn up the volume close your eyes and escape to your dream's.

  • And ever winging up and up

His valley is our only cup

and he the wine which overflows

to Take us with him as he goes.

  • my most favourite piece of music - i can listen to this any time of the day, takes me to a better place and puts me at peace with the world.

  • When my father passed away we played this at his funeral, as it was his favourite piece of music. like a Lark Ascending his spirit flies free, no longer suffering or in pain.

  • it needs to be left a little longer at the end to let it fade away naturally! i really like this music.

  • Hugh bean is my all time favourite, but enjoy all interpretations

  • Beautiful piece of music, nothing like listening to this on a Sunday morning, very pleasing to the soul.

  • Parts are so Chinese and you hear such foreign sounds played by domestic instruments.. Williams was a genius. Will continue to educate for millennia..

  • Correct bro, one of the finest pieces of English music. Very emotive. Greensleeves, Elizabethan serenade and Bank of green willow also send me into orbit.

  • Floral breeze

    Heaven's gift

    To all at ease

    Rejoice!

  • That's an incredibly beautiful thought.

  • This is a beautiful version of a wonderful piece of music. =)

  • And ever winging up and up,

our valley is his Golden Cup

and he the wine which overflows,

    to take us with him

as he goes ... poem fragment

    on manuscript

  • Hilary Hahn's version blows it out of the water

  • I agree Hilary Hahn is absolutely brilliant but Nigel does a great job .

  • I dunno...Hilray's verion is quite beautiful, but you should definitely listen to Sarah

Chang's. I used her interpretation as my inspiration :)

  • Sarah Chang`s is the best! Tasmin Little does a mean one as well.

  • @LaurelsAppaloosas I disagree...I prefer Nigels version

  • This is probably my favorite movie on YouTube right now. I feel that the scenery and music are truely heavenly.

  • thanks I am glad about that it is a truly beautiful piece of music .

  • beautiful!

  • Absolutely brilliant..I like to hear this piece mostly in winter months to remind me of the coming warmer months..it kicks those winter blues into touch every time!! Thanks for sharing this with us...

  • thankyou , you are welcome its a treat hearing it again when answering these comments , so i thank you .

  • Nigel Kennedy is the best romantic violinist in the world. He is so intensely musical, maybe even old-fashioned (but new-age at the same time), of another age. His playing is utterly gorgeous.

  • Listened at the end of work in Birmingham, Alabama and drove home still spellbound. Thanks. The english countryside must be very beautiful. This music lifted me up. Totally Sublime.

  • Oh really glad it had that effect on you it did the same to me on first hearing it and opened my eyes to the works of Ralph Vaughan williams and yes the countryside is beautiful but beauty is everywhere -trichoone .

  • the whole of the British Country side is Beautiful i have the pleasure and privilage to be able to drive around just some small parts of England/ Wales and Scotland it is all very wonderfull...some parts with the old Medieval buildings are like heaven...

  • I have listened to several other recordings by nigel kennedy since first discovering this vid, and surprisingly i don't particularly like any of his other works, because theyre too technical, yet this piece seems to capture a complete lack of technicality to the exclusion of the music, something I think is really quite wonderful. Thank you so much for posting this awesome piece of music, and for the awesome video that goes along with it.

-Supporter of Barack Obama for President of the WORLD!

  • This is such a truly wonderful peice and the video made me homesick for England. Thankyou

  • i notice from your channel that you are new on here and i am glad you liked the video and as you it is a truly beautiful piece of music , my favourite classical piece .

  • im a 15 year old teenager into heavy indy music. i love what i love. but none of that compares to this! i think that says alot. oh, and forget one of the finest pieces of English Music, THE finest piece of english music.

    good work man.

  • thats a great comment my friend and if you check out some more of my vids you will see which music road i came down but it doesent matter which genre it comes from GREAT music can be listened by all and it will stand the test of time for young or old -trichoone

  • Beautiful. Thankyou :o)

  • thanks , my pleasure .

  • Along with the 5th Symphony and the Tallis, this is RVW's most sublime creation. Nigel Kennedy's playing, in my opinion, perfectly captures the feeling of the piece. It's a bit slower than some, but it's because he seems to caress every note of this wonderful score.

Thanks, too, for having a skylark in the video. It's the first time this American classical music loving bird watcher has ever seen one!

  • thanks for your comment , its a pleasure when i get the chance to listen every time a comment comes through , if you look at my channel you will find a few Tomita video,s who indeed turned my attention to classical music but this music is to me out of this world -trichoone .

  • him and elgar could paint a picture in sound

  • One of the most inspired peices of music ever written. Indescribibly brilliant. From the opening chords which just paint hot english countryside to the fluttering violin lines and the soaring climaxes...Ralph Vaughan Williams, I bow down to you!

  • oh how i agree with you its beautiful - trichoone .

  • Fantastic Sound, beautiful

  • This is simply the most beautiful piece of music ever composed.

  • definately one of the very best

  • this makes my millioneth and one listening to various versions of this piece...thank you for the posting..

  • This is Larsen playing, isn't it? Lemme know if I'm wrong.

  • This version is played by English violinist Nigel Kennedy but one thing is for sure this is a beautiful piece of music which i never get bored with .

  • ah... ok :) Very true.

  • Fantastic, one of my favourite pieces of classical music.

  • Thanks for your comment and there can't be many tunes that will top this one thats for sure .

  • I really love this song..I can't find the whole version yet..it saddens me..I'm in love with it

  • It is one of the most beautiful pieces of music i have heard also , I dont know where in the world you are based but you can usually find it on a lot of compilation CD's

  • Look up Larsen's Lark Ascending on YouTube. :)

  • Which do you think is better? Larsons or Kennedy's? Kennedy's is powerful, but Larsons covey's such rich emotion. What do you think?

  • Interesting question... I like Larsen's emotional dynamic changes and phrasing, but Kennedy has a fullness, kinda like you said. Honestly I can't pick between the two. Kind of a mood thing, I guess.

  • I get what you said about "Kennedy has a fullness" I think. If feel like that's a very good way to describe it... Kennedy's is better I think. Thanks for responding.

  • Thank You...Wonderful ...Wish the whole piece was here...

  • Takes just over 13 minutes.

  • It can be posted in two pieces. That's the best you can do.

  • great music...
