  • thank you very useful lecture

  • VERY GREAT CHEM TUTORIAL!

  • thanks u vry mch

  • great video! I will show it to my class.

  • So does calling something Chiral and an enantiomer mean the same thing? Also adoes anyone know of a video that explains how to name the molecules R or S?

  • @iSAW7 a molecule is R if the atoms/compounds that surround the chiral center are going in the right hand direction for priorities. the priorities are 1) biggest atomic number around the chiral center Carbon, 2) continue with priority 1 on the different atoms connected to the Carbon IF there is a tie for biggest atomic number attached to the chiral center C. 3) multiple bonds are treated like single bonds like if C=O becomes O-C-O (picture the O on the left being under the C)

  • Thank you! Now I'd have something to occupy me during my holidays ^^

You have no idea how happy this made me

School don't teach that much, cos they think students can't catch up =(

  • wow thank you SOoo much this helped a lot!.

but then i just wanna clarify one thing!

    superimposability;

you can check the superimposability by

rotating the molecule any way possible right?

Cause' before, i thought you're supposed to check the superimposability by rotating the tetrahedral molecule with the top carbon fixed.

  • top carbon* ---> i mean whichever substituent atom that's on the top *

  • OMG, ty so much..!!! Hopefully make more abt Organic Chemistry!!! THX!! Students like like need u!!

  • Thank you so much for the video, my midterm marks are saved :D

  • great explanation, very original using the gloves :)

  • thanks, it was a great help.........

  • Great! Very helpful! Waiting for part 2 :)

  • sorry.... with two little girls at home, I'm very slow...

  • reaalyyyyy helpful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Hmm, you already mentioned that Polarimeter Analysis allows to test for Purity of the Sample.

But how then is an (S) or (R) Indication performed ?

Does this mean, that you need actually the corresponding Enzymes also ?

    Thanks.

  • It's simply based on the structure:

*Rank the 4 different groups in order of decreasing atomic # (See: CahnIngoldPrelog priority rules).

    In my naproxen molecule,

    #1 = blue (C); 3O

    #2 = red (C); 3C

    #3 = green (C); 3H

    #4 =white (H).

*Rotate the molecule so #4 is in the back. This is done for you in my drawing!

    *Draw a circle from #1 to #2 to #3. If the circle is clockwise, it's "R" = like a right-hand turn in a car. Counterclockwise = "S"

  • @TTUchem1010 this is why evolution can never happen!

  • I get it now!

  • Thank you very much - it has clarified a lot :)

  • You have beautiful hands

  • Really helpfull =]
