CP24: What Does Pride Mean To... Toronto City Councillor Kyle Rae?

To me, Pride means being able to stand up for my own identity when it is being co-opted to legitimise state violence and to be able to do that publicly, even if it makes people uncomfortable. Pride means pushing the boundary of the mainstream to include all of us who don't fit in and carving out a space free from violence and censorship. Pride means listening to other people push the boundaries, even if it makes me uncomfortable; recognising that my own boundaries can be pushed, and that's ok.

Thank you for asking--to me, Pride means freedom. Most importantly, freedom to express who we are. Freedom of expression is at the core of who we are as a community.

It's truly sad that Kyle Rae has forgotten that.
