Yes Cheeriosinabowl, I admire Sophia Loren too !! I have been a fan since I was 13 years old, in junior high school. At that time many of her movies were televised on both network and local television stations here in New York City. The awesome beauty and sex appeal of this woman is over shaddowed by her superior acting talent ! Was there ever a greater acting performance in the last century by an actress than she did in "Two Women" ? Watching her talent and beauty is a true honor !!

Nicely done, boopkid! Some of these gorgeous images I've never seen before (love the black and white "hat" pic--3:20, just after "Judith" and before "Arabesque," her most delightfully "glam" film, as well as the other black and white taken around the time of "More Than A Miracle" where her hair is loose and she is gazing seductively into the camera. It's odd how Sophia actually began to look younger in the 1960s than she did in the 1950s--it was such a "matronly" era, apparently. :-)

Thanks for this post, very incisive, you picked two of my favorite pictures of her. The hat picture is from a scene in Judith, and the other during the filming of More Than A Miracle. The severe makeup of the 50's undermined Sophia's already severe features, it made them overwhelming. The 60's was best of all her decades.

That's it--that's very true. The make-up of the fifties did tend to be very strong, and on many actresses downright harsh (though some, like Elizabeth Taylor, usually looked spectacular--almost as though the strong cosmetics perfectly complemented her strong personality). Anita Ekberg is another beauty who in too many films seemed to me overwhelmed by the make-up (even into the sixties this was true for Anita). Oh--forgot to mention the (1962?) b&w at 1:13-1:14--positively stunning!

Beautiful pictures! Sophia, an excellent actress considered by many the most famous sex goddess to emerge from the 50's Italy. Many italian actresses, like Gina Lollobrigida, Claudia Cardinale, Virna Lisi and both Silvanas Mangano and Pampanini, just to mention a few, gained international fame during the 50's and 60', but Sophia is definitely considered the most famous italian actress of her time.
