If you buy a Canon, you will eventually have to face the factory service center and they will NOT honor their warranty. My HD so-called Professional Camera has been in the shop THREE times in its short 6 month life. They tried to charge me $1,000 because of a defective firewire port. Complete idiots. Defective equipment and a 4 year warranty. I will NEVER buy any Canon product again. Period. Considering it, are you? Save your money ... don't do it. Canon sucks.
Why is everything so grainy? I've seen other youtube videos of this camera, and everything on theirs is nice and sharp. Everything here just seems "soft" if you know what I mean. Is there a reason for this?
@reiththestud It is probably my compression that I used when exporting from Premiere. This was the first HD project that I'd tried to export so I was still learning the ropes. That's probably what your seeing.
@reiththestud I believe this shooting is somewhat a little over exposed. If shooting manually which I feel is the best way, always under exposure is best.
seanCK, dude really impressive! this is the turning point of my decision bet the JVC hd110u and Xha1!!! what is your setting on the shutter and exposure?
Well I shot this about a year ago over several weeks so I don't remember details anymore. I think for the most part I used shutter priority so I could lock a higher shutter speed and prevent blurring in the high motion shots. Everything here was shot in broad daylight so almost for sure it was shot with a high-ish shutter speed and a small aperture. Hope that helps!
i dont understand why my camera has so much noise when i shoot in not so bright places like for example the living room in my house in the black colors i can see so much noise i shoot in TV mode. and even if its in the day i can still see noise black colored objects can anyone give me a hand or give me a good advice of how to fix this problem please i would really appreciate it.
Make sure you don't use Gain unless you aboslutly need it. Set the gain switch to 'L'. Make sure to turn Auto Gain (AGC) to off unless you are shooting in low light conditions. See if that helps.
I had the same problem. 2 ways to solve the problem. Use Full Manual for exposure. Or the easy way to get no grain use Cinema Mode. Cinema Mode is great for grain less videos when you don't want to have to use full manual controls..
I exported this particular video with QT pro using h264 at 10,000 kbits. After more experimenting in the last few months Ive found that wmv is one of the easiest and best quality video formats for youtube uploads. Im on a PC using Adobe Premiere Pro CS2. I export using the Adobe Exporter and the HD wmv preset. If youre editing in Final Cut Pro or some mac application, I would suggest exporting using quick time conversion and using h264 as your codec with a bitrate of at least 10000 kbits.
hey, i also just purchased the XH A1S and was trying to upload a compilation video, but after numerous attempts, i haven't been able to upload the video and still maintain the quality as much as you have here. What did you export the file as? It's a bummer that youtube truly can't capture just how amazing the image quality on the canon is!
I am saving my money for this exact camera. I just hope it's well worth it. I really enjoyed your compalation of video. Some of which was very breath taking. Do you get better quality at home? Is there much difference from the previous XH-A1? If you have used it that is. Great Video! Do you run off a video card?
I think your mac would handle HDV ok. Do you have Final Cut Pro or would you be using iMovie? I'm on a dual core 3GHz AMD PC using Adobe Premiere CS2 and it keeps up just fine. Its a great camera! So far I'm very happy with it! The youtube video doesn't do justice to the true quality of the image! Its pretty stunning to watch on an HDTV. Next purchase is a blu-ray burner. :)

That 30P is not quite filmic but not video-looking either. Interesting.

How do you feel about the looks you get from people when you carry this camera around? I stopped carrying mine because of the attention it attracts.
