So much is said about growing vegetables but for the average gardener the same principles apply to them all: Add amendments to your soil to improve fertility whenever possible, make sure your plants receive adequate sun-light & water (don't water the foliage if possible), mulch to prevent weeds, and practice crop rotation (don't grow plants in the same botanical family in the same plot the year after). e.g. Leguminosae > Solanaceae > Cucurbitaceae > Brassicaceae
I'm growing these in a weed infested lousy soil garden for my first attempt at tomatoes. They are very tough plants! I'm a very lazy gardener, I keep the hose beside the garden and water them on hot dry days and they are doing great.
