  • Oh, God! My first big crush! I was 9 (maybe 10) and madly in love with him...when I found out I was already taller than he was (I was 5'8" when I was 12). But -- sigh . He really WAS gorgeous, wasn't he?! Laughing, though - I had a cockney boyfriend who taught me rhyming slang..and in Cockney parlance, "iron" means a gay man!

  • @sfcritic Iron hoof=poof but this is in the more recent mockney not the original Cockney from the 1800's.

Also in this version he saying 'with a brand new smile and the correct line is brand new tile ( a collapsable top hat )

  • Haha! Thats alright. And thanks!! I did one with What Are We Going To Do too!

  • Great video of Davy Jones

  • Up the Iron!

  • this is strangely mesmerizing in the same way as "Daddy's Song" and "Cuddly Toy". It's toxically cute. But somehow I keep replaying it.

  • you're so cutie cutie davey!

  • Hahaha! class. This is an old cockney music hall song from before the 1st world war. I like the groovy 60s version. Very funny.

  • My family left East London in the 1960's but we still sing this song often. I don't know who originally wrote it but it's the Harry Champion version 'cockneys' sing 1920's or 1930's. Not sure its pre ist war. Weird to here a northener sing it!

  • You're right Harry Champion made it famous but according to Wikipedia it's much older-1911. A lot of the lyrics have very quaint references. Still a good laugh even now!

  • Thanks for the info Dixiecat, I half suspected it was older than even old Arry!

  • This was written by Charles Collins, Fred Terry and E.A. Sheppard. I enjoyed Harry Champion's version (it probably is the original). But it's interesting to note that most of the popular versions of this song have not sung all the verses in the officially published lyrics. I am just beginning to enjoy British Music Hall numbers. And I must say Harry Champion rocks! Coming from me - A Filipino with no English ancestry - that is a great praise.

  • its ok, I found a way

  • good job!

  • and we dont give a dam about a grimsby fan old iron old iron lol

  • I saw Fozzie and Kermit do this one on the Muppet Show once. But for some reason, I find this version funnier. But I like it. Which is strange, since Davy is not my favorite Monkee (he's my fourth favorite, actually).

  • any chance of getting a vid for the hot and wonderful "oklahoma backroom dancer?"

  • any way we can find an .mp3 of this? It's incredibly infections

  • I'm not sure where you could find an mp3 of this. I just recorded it from my record player.

  • ah, well it sounds really good, can you maybe convert it to mp3. I have the Peter Sellers version but it hurts my ears lol

  • Yes, put more Davy songs up.

  • love him so much

  • infectious**

  • cool

  • Never heard this song before, but I like it! Actually, I like any of Davy's songs.

  • so high-pitched CUTE!!

  • AWSOME!!!!!!!! WHAT ELSE CAN I SAY...this tune is catc

    hey

  • That sure dont sound like davy I know he was younger but still ....

  • you are stupid its not david singing its a video of him with the song

  • It is David singing. It's on his first album, before he was a Monkee.

  • liar
