@spetragl I believe as of 2009 the WPIX Yule Log is now 4 commercial free hours of your favorite Christmas and Holiday melodies accompanied by the warmth of a beautiful yule log fire.
lol wiccan holiday try some research yule log dates back to england and has nothing to do with the wiccans if they are using it its because they adapted it from english culture lol
Hello, what's the big deal? There's a conspiracy in everything these days. Get a grip. And did you know- Yule is the Wiccan holiday, not Christian, and not Christmas? But you've been singing "See the Blazing Yule" forever.
As a Christian i always say "Merry Christmas"...I have no shame in celebrating the birth of my Lord, and Saviour. If you are not a Christian, and don't believe, thats is fine, i have no problem with people of other religions, but i thought this country was suppose to had been founded based on Christian beliefs? If you are from another country, and don't celebrate Christmas, then don't, but if i was living in a Islamic country, they would not be afraid to celebrate their beliefs.
@jkeyes59 - In truth, Jesus was not born during the winter season. He was most likely born about the time of the Jewish feast of Succoth which occurs around September.
@jkeyes59 Jesus was born in March. Christmas is in December because the Roman Church wanted a holiday to usurp the Winter Solstice celebrations. Of course, as usual, anyone that disagreed, was murdered.
Many people in the U.S. don't celebrate Christmas, because they belong to a different religion.
I say, "Merry Christmas" to the people I know celebrate it. But I say, "Happy holidays," which I started saying literally years ago, because it covers Christmas and New Year's, and I don't usually see people between the holidays.
Oh, that's just RIDICULOUS!! Don't you think that back in the 1970's and 1980's that there were people who belonged to a different religion??!!! Why was it o.k. to say "Merry Christmas" back then but not today??
Wow. I Just Loved Waking Up To See The Yule Log On TV. I Wish That Someone Would Put The Full Clip Of This On Here. I Would Love To See It. Thank You.
to be frank, i wish that it was like that now [less crappy Christmas music during October and november, and only during the last 5 days before Christmas eve.]
I lived in north jersey for 5 years as a kid and we would have this on every year I lived there at Christmas, but the intro just said for 2 hours? I remember it being on all night...am I wrong?
Wow. I Still Wish That Someone Would Put The Entire Yule Log (with christmas music of course) On Here that's on the wgn channel. I Would Like To See It On That Channel.
I think my earliest exposure to the WPIX Yule Log was in 1969 when I was four.
My parents always turned on Channel 11 when it was time for it. Not that we watched it the whole time, of course, but it was very comforting to hear the beautiful music (Christmas music might be my favorite) and knowing that the yule log was "burning" while we had family and friends over. :-)
Thanks for posting this...my dad would put this on every Christmas morning when I was a kid. Now that I'm a parent, it makes me smile to see my own children (esp. my oldest, who has autism) enjoy the Yule Log and all the other Christmas specials that I loved as a child.
I remember that the Home Shopping Network ran a variation on this theme between 1986 & 1991. On Christmas 1991, they interrupted their Yule Log to plug "Bring Them Home, America," a program on missing children.
So I see at this point in the original run of "The Yule Log," the music and zooming in and out of the California fireplace were done away with, and instead Yuletide slides with Bill Biery's V/O were being used.
I recall a later YL airing where the announcement came over the beginning of the Log (I mean, the actual footage). It was one of the last times I saw it, so I assume late '80s. Or I am just mixing up memories and that didn't happen that way.
Oh, and Percy Faith's JTTW = PERFECT opening song for the YL
I remember that as well, along with the fact that a promo for WPIX-FM would also appear over the actual footage during the half-hour breaks (this was around '87 or '88).
The operative word was founded, But even Thomas Jefferson, through a monkey wrench in the faith, by starting the Unitarian Church..

Yes, In earlier years it ran all Christmas Eve (night) into Christmas Day.
As time went on (and airtime became more expensive), the schedule was shortened and shortened.
spetragl 3 years ago
What does it run now? 2 hours? Just Christmas Eve? Thanks for the quick response.
vaportrails44 3 years ago
Where I live. It broadcats for four hours. They start of with Andy William's Signature Christmas son "The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year".

I think by 1989 it was running for only 1 hour at 5-6 AM!
