Back then if you shot a 300,299, 298 it had to approved. The ABC would send out a team to check out the lane conditions and they had to conform to parameters. The ABC then would give you a REAL award like a high quality gold rink or something. Now it happens so often you get a better ring in a crackerjack box. Like I said, they runing the game. Totally screwed it up. Even the pros, (watched on ESPN) look cheap, their ball is all over the place and still strike. Sickening to watch.
@willieofroanoke Well their ball is damn near always within an inch of their target, they haven't gotten less accurate over the years, but the conditions have gotten much harder on the pro tour overall. It is true about regular conditions now being too easy for league bowlers and such. They don't realize their equipment combined with the house shot means that accuracy isn't exactly important. Just be withing a couple of inches or so and you are good.
@willieofroanoke Of course if you want to see bowling where you can still always do better, check out duckpin or candlepin bowling. No 300s have ever been thrown in either. Duckpin has a 279 high game and candlepin has a 259....or something close to that number. Best averages are in the 150s in duckpin and 130s in candlepin.

@chrizles Wait...how do you have to bowl a 200 to average 160? If over six games you bowl in the 145-175 range, you can average 160 and not ever throw a 200 game. It makes it easier, but it's not exactly needed.
My beef, is bowling is suppose to be a game of SKILL. Not brute force, not over reactive balls, not cheesechake easy as hell lanes where if you hit three inches of either side of whatever you target is you still get a strike 90% of the time. Bowling a 300 was, as it should be a RARE event, not an every day happening like it is now.
@willieofroanoke I have been bowling for 35+ years so I know what you are saying. Back in the days of plastic and urethane equipment if you bowled an honor score (300-299-298-800..etc..) the local association would be called and a lane inspector came out to make sure things were compliant, Lanes were inspected and bowling balls were actually weighed and hit with a durometer (orange dots were a no no, lol) I wish they would go back to that but that would be impossible.
@bowlinggod702 With as many 300 games that are rolled now with the equipment now available the lane inspectors would be up until 2 AM in some cases. You always need to upgrade now with the USBC changing oils, pins and such. My equipment of 2-3 years ago won't cut it. My equipment of 5-6 years ago goes dead straight now, no reaction. Its a never ending battle between the manufacturers and the USBC. If they were still inspecting about 2/3rds of 300's would be thrown out.
The lane next to it was so dry the ball would hook 20 boards, before it was half way down the lane, you had to use extra speed. The pins were deliberately off spot and mixed weight. Rumor had it some pins were soaked in water and weight over six pounds. String strikes, you were lucky ifyou got a double. The pros bowled in it too and routinely shot 160-170 and were glad that got that. It was a 8 game tournment, you bowled around all lanes and a winning score of low 1600's won,

Having 25 sanctioned 300 games ( including 3 sanctioned sport: 1 viper, 2 scorpion) I'll take the ones on the tougher patterns any day. Seen bowlers like this come and go. Like someone else said try getting guys like this in a PBA experience league and watch what they say, better yet what happens.

Typical PBA conditons AREN'T house condtions you babbling dimwit. That's the point. If you have "cheesecake" easy conditons at your local lanes you get conned into thinking you're a good bowler. When you face more challenging lane conditions the local hot shot that merely throws the ball and doesn't care if he's five inches right or left of target and still strikes, won't shoot a 140 game elsewhere. Its a rude awakening.
Sorry to rant, but today's bowler his being cheated out of the competative nature of what the game is suppose to be. I'm a lefty too. The house I bowled at on Friday's (one of four leagues) in bowled in weekly, was a scatch league, where you had to have a minimum 185 average just to joint. The lane considers BY REQUEST were tought. Run a half a board hight get a 6 pin. Miss a half board light and you ususally left a seven pin. Hit the headpin even a bit full and you almost always got a split.
I don't care if they guy uses one hand, two hands or sticks his dick in the thumb hole. The point is the game under most house conditions no longer requires skill. I bowled in many PBA pro-am events under PBA lane conditions. I've bowled at the Peterson Classic in Chicago. The point of the game is you should be challenged and able to adapt to different and tough lane considers. Today, you barely have to get up off the bench, shut your eyes and throw the ball in front of you. What "fun" is that?
Today, bowling a 300 game is like bowling 225 20 years ago. The "sport" has been totally bastarized with over reactive balls and cheese cake easy as shit lane conditons. Hell, even the pros are bowling outdoors making a total mockery of the game. Why I no longer bowl and I had close to a 200 average.No skill any longer required.

I throw a Storm Natural from time to time when conditions require it and have been known to use it on the cheetah after the conditions break down. I would love to see a urethane or plastic ball league to see how some of these guys would fare without reactive equipment. Their 5 boards would shrink to 1-2 real fast.
@bowlinggod702 A lot of guys these days don't know how easy they got it. Its actually ruined the game when you have 4-6 boards to play with. I remember bowling in the Peterson Classic in Chicago. The world's hardest bowling tournment... on purpose. First the place was about 80 years old, so were the lanes. Real wood. No marking of any kind on the lane. No dots, no range finders. A pair of lanes were night and day. One had literally puddles of oil you could see, depressions in the lane.
@willieofroanoke it's still around and just as hard as ever. I've bowled it the past 10 or so years and it's the most fun i have all year. I've heard stories of lanes "breaking down" when someone had the front 6 or 7 and had to move to 17 and 18 IN THE BAR where people would throw drinks on the lanes and such as you bowled. I've heard a story of a guy having the front 9 and his ball coming back with grease packed in the thumb hole. I too wish we could go back to the old days .

I'm only 30 but i remember when my dad shot 835 and that was the top score for many years in my town. Now my high of 844 isn't even top 10 all time it's really sad honestly.

In the 70's-80's when I was active a great 3 game series would be barely making 700. Getting a 800+ series was virtually unheard of. A 190 game was considered good. Shooting a 230-250 was if you were a decent bowler something that maybe happen once or twice a month. Shooting a big games like a 279 or over was a once in a lifetime event. Now the game is ruined.
Nice shooting. An 800 series is an 800 series, I can't believe how many haters there are out there. And for all you know it all out there, think about it with the amount of revs he has on his ball he would have to change lines. He could not use the same exact line for 3 games. Also it looked like to me there were other bowlers and we do not know how much oil they moved around. He would want to readjust angle to pocket due to oil break down.
I been bowling for many years.. The game has changed you use to have to have talent to be able to bowl well.. With today bowling balls and lane conditions mainly house shots bowling high scores is not very difficult.. You use to get a gold ring with a real diamond years ago for a 300.. Now you get a piece of tin.. Ever wonder why.. Because bowling is a joke not like it use to be.. But hey great set and nice 300 game... no one should bash you it not your fault the sport has regressed.
Nice wood lanes or early sythetic your rolling on. Use that plastic ball on a real shot on newer synthetic on a real oil pattern and watch what happens--carry will go away and splits will come. Good work on these league lanes. I respect the work, but don't go past league lanes. Two handed bowlers take away the heart and spirit of professional bowling. Still fun to watch in person though, and like I said before, good league/fun bowling.
First of all, I am half polish. Secondly, I already showed "league" respect. I just say it how it is. Don't try that on a real oil pattern. If you don't believe me, then watch the PBA, and watch all of the PBA events that Jason Belmonte's been on. You will find that in most of his games, he lost suffered from "split syndrome." If this bowler wants to go further with bowling, he will hire a coach and change.

With that said I also see on average around 3 800s thrown a season. This is just one bowling center in a small city. So really, they arnt that special on house shots... most people look like rookies on sport shots or PBA shots... I know I looked like a fool on them. My 200 average went down to a 160 on em.

This is quite impressive. But bowling this well on house shot does not mean one should go pro. Oil patterns are completely different. I dare house bowler to do this on anything the pros bowl on (save the Cheetah pattern). Still quite impressive feat. Good job.

If you're the only one playing on your side, then it's all you moving the oil, if you're a righty, about 90% of others will mess with your oil... making every ajustment needed coming faster and faster..

My beef, is bowling is suppose to be a game of SKILL. Not brute force, not over reactive balls, not cheesechake easy as hell lanes where if you hit three inches of either side of whatever you target is you still get a strike 90% of the time. Bowling a 300 was, as it should be a RARE event, not an every day happening like it is now.

@willieofroanoke I have been bowling for 35+ years so I know what you are saying. Back in the days of plastic and urethane equipment if you bowled an honor score (300-299-298-800..etc..) the local association would be called and a lane inspector came out to make sure things were compliant, Lanes were inspected and bowling balls were actually weighed and hit with a durometer (orange dots were a no no, lol) I wish they would go back to that but that would be impossible.

@bowlinggod702 With as many 300 games that are rolled now with the equipment now available the lane inspectors would be up until 2 AM in some cases. You always need to upgrade now with the USBC changing oils, pins and such. My equipment of 2-3 years ago won't cut it. My equipment of 5-6 years ago goes dead straight now, no reaction. Its a never ending battle between the manufacturers and the USBC. If they were still inspecting about 2/3rds of 300's would be thrown out.

The lane next to it was so dry the ball would hook 20 boards, before it was half way down the lane, you had to use extra speed. The pins were deliberately off spot and mixed weight. Rumor had it some pins were soaked in water and weight over six pounds. String strikes, you were lucky ifyou got a double. The pros bowled in it too and routinely shot 160-170 and were glad that got that. It was a 8 game tournment, you bowled around all lanes and a winning score of low 1600's won,

Having 25 sanctioned 300 games ( including 3 sanctioned sport: 1 viper, 2 scorpion) I'll take the ones on the tougher patterns any day. Seen bowlers like this come and go. Like someone else said try getting guys like this in a PBA experience league and watch what they say, better yet what happens.

I have personally seen this kid bowl an 858 series that could have very well been a 900. Stop hating and work on your own game. Typical PBA conditons AREN'T house condtions you babbling dimwit. That's the point. If you have "cheesecake" easy conditons at your local lanes you get conned into thinking you're a good bowler. When you face more challenging lane conditions the local hot shot that merely throws the ball and doesn't care if he's five inches right or left of target and still strikes, won't shoot a 140 game elsewhere. Its a rude awakening.

Sorry to rant, but today's bowler his being cheated out of the competative nature of what the game is suppose to be. I'm a lefty too. The house I bowled at on Friday's (one of four leagues) in bowled in weekly, was a scatch league, where you had to have a minimum 185 average just to joint. The lane considers BY REQUEST were tought. Run a half a board hight get a 6 pin. Miss a half board light and you ususally left a seven pin. Hit the headpin even a bit full and you almost always got a split.

I don't care if they guy uses one hand, two hands or sticks his dick in the thumb hole. The point is the game under most house conditions no longer requires skill. I bowled in many PBA pro-am events under PBA lane conditions. I've bowled at the Peterson Classic in Chicago. The point of the game is you should be challenged and able to adapt to different and tough lane considers. Today, you barely have to get up off the bench, shut your eyes and throw the ball in front of you. What "fun" is that?

Today, bowling a 300 game is like bowling 225 20 years ago. The "sport" has been totally bastarized with over reactive balls and cheese cake easy as shit lane conditons. Hell, even the pros are bowling outdoors making a total mockery of the game. Why I no longer bowl and I had close to a 200 average.No skill any longer required.

@willieofroanoke really tho tenpin is the worset kinda bowlin....thers soooo many videos of non pro bowlers rollin 279+...pin are too fat and ball is to big. lol the ball covers like a 4th of the lane at all times...world record candlepin game is only a 245 and was set in 86"....set ur game up ppl and challenge yourselfs, with the harder more skillful types of bowling

@willieofroanoke Thats true, very true. Why do you think the awards are a joke now? A piece of tin for a 300 game and an 11 in a row plaque for a 299. I throw a Storm Natural from time to time when conditions require it and have been known to use it on the cheetah after the conditions break down. I would love to see a urethane or plastic ball league to see how some of these guys would fare without reactive equipment. Their 5 boards would shrink to 1-2 real fast.

@bowlinggod702 A lot of guys these days don't know how easy they got it. Its actually ruined the game when you have 4-6 boards to play with. I remember bowling in the Peterson Classic in Chicago. The world's hardest bowling tournment... on purpose. First the place was about 80 years old, so were the lanes. Real wood. No marking of any kind on the lane. No dots, no range finders. A pair of lanes were night and day. One had literally puddles of oil you could see, depressions in the lane.

@willieofroanoke it's still around and just as hard as ever. I've bowled it the past 10 or so years and it's the most fun i have all year. I've heard stories of lanes "breaking down" when someone had the front 6 or 7 and had to move to 17 and 18 IN THE BAR where people would throw drinks on the lanes and such as you bowled. I've heard a story of a guy having the front 9 and his ball coming back with grease packed in the thumb hole. I too wish we could go back to the old days .

I'm only 30 but i remember when my dad shot 835 and that was the top score for many years in my town. Now my high of 844 isn't even top 10 all time it's really sad honestly.

@spyder803300 Which is the sad part. Bowling USED TO BE a game of skill. No longer. Anyone can do it. I got some years on you. In the 70's-80's when I was active a great 3 game series would be barely making 700. Getting a 800+ series was virtually unheard of. A 190 game was considered good. Shooting a 230-250 was if you were a decent bowler something that maybe happen once or twice a month. Shooting a big games like a 279 or over was a once in a lifetime event. Now the game is ruined.

Nice shooting. An 800 series is an 800 series, I can't believe how many haters there are out there. And for all you know it all out there, think about it with the amount of revs he has on his ball he would have to change lines. He could not use the same exact line for 3 games. Also it looked like to me there were other bowlers and we do not know how much oil they moved around. He would want to readjust angle to pocket due to oil break down.

I been bowling for many years.. The game has changed you use to have to have talent to be able to bowl well.. With today bowling balls and lane conditions mainly house shots bowling high scores is not very difficult.. You use to get a gold ring with a real diamond years ago for a 300.. Now you get a piece of tin.. Ever wonder why.. Because bowling is a joke not like it use to be.. But hey great set and nice 300 game... no one should bash you it not your fault the sport has regressed.

Nice wood lanes or early sythetic your rolling on. Use that plastic ball on a real shot on newer synthetic on a real oil pattern and watch what happens--carry will go away and splits will come. Good work on these league lanes. I respect the work, but don't go past league lanes. Two handed bowlers take away the heart and spirit of professional bowling. Still fun to watch in person though, and like I said before, good league/fun bowling.

First of all, I am half polish. Secondly, I already showed "league" respect. I just say it how it is. Don't try that on a real oil pattern. If you don't believe me, then watch the PBA, and watch all of the PBA events that Jason Belmonte's been on. You will find that in most of his games, he lost suffered from "split syndrome." If this bowler wants to go further with bowling, he will hire a coach and change.

@As3sinoL0C0 Dude your acting like a child. Im not the guy you replyed to but I bowl 5 nights a week and see on average about 13 or so 300s bowled a season. With that said I also see on average around 3 800s thrown a season. This is just one bowling center in a small city. So really, they arnt that special on house shots... most people look like rookies on sport shots or PBA shots... I know I looked like a fool on them. My 200 average went down to a 160 on em.

This is quite impressive. But bowling this well on house shot does not mean one should go pro. Oil patterns are completely different. I dare house bowler to do this on anything the pros bowl on (save the Cheetah pattern). Still quite impressive feat. Good job.

but.. 2 handed = more speed, more rev ( potential), more '' lucky '' strike rate = better score
lefty = nobody's lefty, so nobody's messing up your oil.. more consistent pocket shots = better score
2 things that explain what you saw there, but he still had to do the shots.. so gratz :-)
but since it's cut scenes, everything could happens, but these are house shots, so it has to be real .. and gratz with it, try to do it again :-)

If you're the only one playing on your side, then it's all you moving the oil, if you're a righty, about 90% of others will mess with your oil... making every ajustment needed coming faster and faster..
