That was actually a great landing.. It looked funny because the camera guys arm would have bounced.. As for people saying oh but the countdown was quick: it doesn't matter, the majority of the flare happens at 10 feet of less.. great landing and great filming, the A340-600 is an amazing airliner
haha what a stupid discussion. the landing was nice, the problem is that at the time the video was made, both runways at frankfurt airport were rebuilt overnight. so the asphalt quality was really bad at the first kilometer and that is the bumpy stuff you can see
thanks to the sophisticated aircraft that successfully beared such immense stress on its tires! but this shiny new aircraft will be a crap soon if the copilot continues flying like this.
your an idiot! because the callouts were closer together does not mean it will touch down harder! a flare will stop a hard touchdown! and these are built to handle rough landings! the fuckin thing has a landing weight of about 260 odd tonne so it has to handle a lot!
Obviously the aircraft is made to handle that impact but in this case I think the pilot should have touched down more softly at least for passenger comfort.
it was nothing of concern at all! it looked like a hard touch down because the person holding the camera would have jolted his/her arms when the mains touched! normal touch down! the runway seemed worse than the touchdown itself!

Airbus also runs the captain, hence why the airbus A320 crashed at that airshow, the plane configured itself to land when the captain was only doin a flyby..Go Airbus right..more like a YEAH right!!I don't pick sides hence why i'm watching this vid but Boeing is better regardless!
damn, that landing wass hard!!! if you figure they went from 20 to 0 feet in 1.5 seconds if was a 800fpm touch down!!! surprised the tires didn't pop, or worse!
those red buttons on the sides of the throttle levers are the secondary autothrottle disengage buttons. In order to disengage the auto throttle both have to be held in simotaneously (ignore spelling) for 2 seconds. That 'retard' feature is really useful, it just makes airbus planes so much easier to do good landings with than the boeings which don't have it.
wtf...it is easier, but in the boeings you just listen to 50, 40 etc..at 20, pull back more, set engines idle at 10, watch the Vertical Speed meter, and keep in between the 0 and 200 -fpm mark...do this 200 times, and its simple!!
All airbus planes are equipped with full computer supported fly-by-wire-systems, which also tell the pilots when tehy have to pull back the throttle levers to touch down. It was the CoPilot, flying and landin the plane...Maybe it was not his day! :)
ha ha ha haaa.... ejector seat on a A340 ?? Nice imagination! If the pilots of a commercial aircraft ejects then what will the rest of the people do???

im sure that it went retard retard! as they landed lol
TheSeaShark 3 years ago
It means put the throttles to idle. I know, I for one can't land a plane that yells retard at my face.

what u mean? for me he did everything right
benfalas 3 years ago
Yeah... Everything was right except the touchdown. It was harder than normal. You can measure it by following the altitude callouts (50, 40, 30, ...)

yes it was a nice landing....if it was more rough the plane would bounced when the landing gear touched the runway....:)
ElMon25 3 years ago
no it wouldn't have it wasn't even a hard touchdown! jeez if you think this is a hard one you have obviously yet to experience/see a hard touchdown!

i think it was a smooth landing...

"retard" tells the pilots to retard the throttle. (pull back the levers in the centre)

i always thought that meant pull back on the joystick...
