The last thing we need right now is a strong dollar... It sounds good but it will cause a multitude of problems. One's spending is another incomes, if the dollar appreciated, no one would spend or invest because they would be getting a return on holding money. That's why we need inflation now, interest rates are already at the lower limit and a little bit of inflation would offset the increased savings made by deleveraging businesses.
@17589 probably because salt was needed more. it was illegal to make salt at one time I do believe. and may still be for the average joe. corporations are good at creating scarcity and charging through the nose for whatever they have made scarce.
@17589 well. i am not entirely sold on Ron Paul. However. I am dead set against the others. i always say that "if I needed a president then I would vote for RP". @bradq Well I'll just make the following points and depart on these notes:
I used to support Ron Paul. It wasn't liberal or conservative media however that turned me away--it was Paul's own words. I won't get into what those words are right now, because I want to leave you curious and I want you to come to your own conclusions as to why I was turned away from him.
I urge you simply, before you vote do research. If you haven't found something that you disagree with on any candidate, look again.
@bradq (Stupid 500 char limit) The reason I say that is because if you find a candidate that you're 100%, undeniably, completely for, then there's something you've overlooked or haven't been told.
Every candidate right now has something to be upset about, including Obama and including Ron Paul. The question is who you're less pissed off with.

Paul is passing blame from Congress and the Senate, to the Fed.The Fed is a lender, the US Gov is the borrower. You can't blame your bank if you barrow too much money. The Fed has no interest in destroying the US currency or the US financial system. They run many central banks in almost every nation of the world. It would be tremendously bad business for a central bank to drive a major country(USA)into default. Paul is blaming the Fed for his fellow politicians outrageous spending habits.
It doesn't work that way, The Fed is one step ahead of its evilness. When you control the entire country through different methods (illuminati) you can create conditions that literally force people to borrow if they want to live. In this way the fed makes a killing on interests that we the people have to pay.
The Fed and the MIC are both to blame...our forefather set up this republic to get away from taxation and more importantly- centralized banking. "...and to the REPUBLIC for which it stands, one nation"...blah blah blah
The Fed is a centralized private bank that charges our government interest. This interest is paid for by the system of taxation. We are slaves to the interest of the interest groups...lol
Over many years we have all been lied to by our Govts. Not just our Govts but by Religous Leaders. We have been taught things that are not in Scripture & many have swallowed many lies by these false prophets. If you are a truth seeker please visit the web site which is displayed in our user name & take the time to read some of the articles. You will be shocked. THERE IS A GREAT AUDIO FOR YOU TO LISTEN TO. YOU WILL COME AWAY ASKING MANY QUESTIONS. REAL SHOCKING.
I hate to say this but there ain't a lot we can do about it because the government is content to do it there way and completely ignore the people. I think it almost has to happen in order for us to learn which is really sad because the average citizen on the street doesn't want to think "Hay this is just paper"!
I would really like to see US dollar go up in value bringing down the value of our Canadian dollar which makes our exports to the US cheaper and more competitive.
Since our economy is largely based on exports of goods to international markets of which the US market makes the biggest share it really helps us if the rising US dollars can bring down the value of Canadian dollars below 85 cents Canadian to a US dollar.
They can create money out of thin air.Which then they make bad loans with. There is double inflation already.Lets make it 3x inflation. The people that recieve the loans, forget savings accounts and buy Chinese goods.Christmas kicks ass.Doesn't it? If we all worked for the Government we could show China who's more Communist.Wait we do all work for the Government.
The dollar problem is actually a war between the old producers and the new producers. If the dollar was valued for what it's really worth we couldn't pay off our debt with China. But they devalue their money along with ours.We can increase the value of our money actually it will rebound naturaly. But they have our money and they don't spend it.Except for us to borrow it.We want to produce new stuff in America but we can't because we haven't Chinese Customers.Producer without customer doesn't exsist
Correction to my previous comment: The idea is for the US Supreme Court's judicial review is to determine if the Federal Reserve Act violates our Constitution. Our Constitution, being the supreme law of the land, only the Supreme Court has the authority to render such an opinion.
There is only one way that Congressman Paul can accelerate his efforts to obolish the Fed. And that is for him to support a petition for the US Supreme Court to do a judicial review of the Federal Reserve Act to determine if his act violates our Constitution.
The comments i have read are witty, funny, and correct as well as the video. I think its a statement that is true, although it hard to see his intentions. Something is going to change dramatically, it is up to us on how it will happen ie. revolution or evolution of the american mind. don't put your freedom in the hands of gov't or any other man. spread freedom with understanding and intellgence. the capitalist minds have to have more of a patient approach to unifying
It seems like all of his work is futile. Americans have lost the vision of the founding fathers. In other words, we wouldn't know what freedom was if it hit us in the face! What a damn shame.
Not that I know what I'm talking about, but it is 200 tons of gold. Gold. I think the point is to remember that it's gold, not bank bonds or whatever. Not to mention gold is on the rise while the usd is collapsing. All that said, you could be right and 200 tons may not be a lot compared to what is available to buy.
i don't believe in usury-based fiat, especially fractional-reserve, because the elite can manipulate the currency and the economy. i don't believe in commodity-based currency for the same reasons. i believe in a true public usury-free fiat, like the lincoln greenback, colonial scrip, or british tally stick. money is not a commodity, it is merely a means to facilitate bartering.
Living in America is getting scary. Sure we aren't affect just yet... but NO ONE understands the US is living OFF of other countries, when they DROP the dollar, and they will... this nation is gonna shoot each other for a piece of bread. I'm still waiting for civil unrest and a succession attempt/government take over attempt to bring US back to it's original constitution.
True. Living here is scary, but imagine living in the countries that you don't know if you'll live to see the next day. Most of us living in America can't and don't even take the time to understand and appreciate the reality of that. I think many people right now are thinking our country is in the shitter because they can no longer eat at Applebee's more than once a month. 70% of America lives paycheck to paycheck right now, or so I've heard.
iloqin where did you hear about this possible take over as in against the gov? Dont' get your info from the SPLC web site because they are extreme leftist or other and bias to the max. I think everyone group is just as volitale as the next group. Who can afford to go to a baseball game these days? The rich vs Poor
2012 is an astrological event. the sun and milky way star belt is lowest on the horizon. that is all it means. no poles are going to be shifting, no end of time. it is just about the starry sky. mayans, who sacrified their first born to the gods based on the expert knowledge of government witch doctors, felt the stars were gods and tended to put more meaning into it.
The US is not chiding (reprimanding) the Chinese for having a currency that is too strong. We are doing the opposite. We are chiding the Chinese for having a currency that is weak in comparison to the dollar because it makes it easy for us to buy from them, and hard for them to buy from us. This is partly why we keep exporting all our jobs to China.
You can tell by the rest of his speech that this is his intent. At least that's how I understood it.
America is a banana republic, the only way out of this is to declare bankrupt thus resetting the dollar and the economy, just like Argentina. Remember that America, Argentina?
Mr. Paul is right again. The wealth is shifting from West to East. Power shift will go along with wealth. The Chinese have been placing a vast amount of their GDP into military buildup. The Chinese have also stated their #1 enemy is the U.S. The writing is on the wall.
Yes but I took that comment to mean jus against America. China has been against others and hell look what happened to Tibet and they aren't very freindly with their neighbors either. They are in Africa just for the Oil and so on. They may not like the US but they dislike others also.
Yes we discontinued funding to the F22under the Obama administration. Check the timeline). I specifically say the words "did" and "under George W Bush" in my comment, so are you trying to make some kind of point?
@Spiral- I don't understand your English or what you're talking about. My comment to him was that I didn't understand his argument and looking at where you started in the conversation it's obvious that you don't know the context.
@SpiralUp1: This was reported over 15 years ago, and I wouldn't think they would suddenly change their minds during the interim. I don't make "chit" up. Oh, and I wouldn't expect our MSM to disclose this fact, either. Heck, when was the last time the MSM told us the truth about anything?
there has to be a balance. the old coins were made from precious metals that were molded. therefore although the coin was currency it did have an intrinsic value as well
Has paper currency been superior? Look at the 30s and now at present. The fed just tries to imitate hard money anyway. Why doesnt anyone talk about the 1890s gold bubbles? B/c we didnt try and print our way out of it and you had short recessions rather than depressions for 10+ years. Hard money may not be perfect but the market knows more than a small group of academics.
@phchartrand: I certainly hope Rand Paul stays ahead in the polls, and I believe his numbers will increase. The more people know about the Constitution, the more they like RP. Only one problem: Diebold electronic voting machines.
@lemonademango777: Are you blind? Just WHO has been hacking into America's most secret defense sources? WHO pirates BILLIONS of dollars of American copyrighted material? WHO demands that any American company relocating to China must also transfer their R&D into China as well? WHO places more of their GDP into military buildup than any other nation, and for what purpose? You're either a SHILL, a complete MORON, or a BALDFACED liar.
joe Don't be so mad at Lemond.. someone sold him a lie so he can be their pawn... He cannot help himself. His ignorance is ingrain further by the lectures he listens to. (he knows what I mean)
lemond like someone said. A lot of ppl will sign up to snything when their bellies are empty and or when they think there is some kind of pay off. Are you in the U.S. ?
Great video Congressman Paul, I am not a US citizen being an Australian citizen I am deeply concerned about the operations of the Fed as it not only affects my good friends in the US but also in many other countries. I find it really hard to believe that most people in the Us don't know that 'The FED' is not a US Government Institution but rather operates more like a private enterprise.
What I find even more interesting is how the FED got all its power in the first place way back in 1913.
17. Same story. My friends don't believe me though mostly. They don't believe that a kid could have a better understanding than so many adults. And they don't care enought to figure it out for themselves, or they just don't get it...
The future is frightening. I do not like what I am learning, but at least there is someone in Washington with the integrity to tell us the truth! I appreciate that so much!!
I didnt know about anything until i saw SNL's Obama skit where he has done nothing. I decided to look into it. I could have never imagined what the Federal Reserve Bank was doing, and Obama wants to give them more power. I've been obsessed with politics since.
That's how it happens, man. When we've been lied to our entire lives, truth can hit us like a ton of bricks...
My epiphany came in January 2008, when I first began to look into the presidential candidates. Ever since that day, I've been reading daily on things I never could even imagine that I would be reading. I read about Austrian economics daily, and I keep abreast the daily goings on. I just turned 25. It looks like it will be a long, learned life for me, and I have Ron Paul to thank.
I realize your question was addressed to "Ron", but in case Ron doesn't answer, I'd like to chime in on this one.
The Constitution is not a contract. However, upon swearing an oath of office (uphold, defend the constitution, etc.), the swearer has engaged in contract with his/her constituents. The Constitution defines the terms of that contract. If a public officer or official breaches that contract, then that he/she can be brought to trial on grounds of that breach.
USA have the chips to talk about freedom and liberty because of their economic success. If the current situation continues and the East continues to progress, say bye bye to America.
Ron Paul needs to be president now, but sadly American's are morons, the biggest morons in the history of Mankind. Ron Paul is the ONLY hope America has.
Obama is indeed the Teleprompter-In-Chief. He's off on another one of his Obowma kiss ass tours. Bowing his way around the globe. It's only a matter of time before he adds the curtsy and the genuflect to his impressive repertoire of groveling moves.
Rand Paul, Ron's son, is running for Senate in Kentucky and is leading in the polls ! Let's make sure it stays that way with the December 16th moneybomb (Boston Tea Party).
We need to form some type IRA only though it would be the ARA(Not the American Rental Association).
But the communication between the citizens is awkward, is week and is not there compared to how it use to be BEFORE TELEVISION was in most peoples houses.
Careful, with today's indoctrination you would be considered a terrorist instead of a patriot. I feel your frustration, and that's why it's imperative that we need to defend the internet.(The last free speech, free market, free thinking, free gathering place left.)
The United States produces nothing that the rest of the world buys, we are simply consumers so why would anyone be surprised that the people we buy from (the East) now have the strong economy.
I agree, we are a nothing more than a consumer driven economy. China has been making smart economic decisions for 30 or 40 years, focusing on savings, not borrowing and spending.
In your opinion, what would the transformation of a consumer driven economy to a more stable production based economy look like? Would there be market "shocks" or would we have to hit bottom?
At this point i am not sure what could reverse this slide we are on, we should of made it less desirable for US companies to outsource jobs to cut their bottom line but that gennie is out of the bottle.
Since the 1950s it seems like the American worker has been pushed aside to make way for the American consumer and we are now just a bloated host for all the parasite counties who's whole economies exist by milking us with their cheap labor rates.
Dr Paul. "Now what"? There remains an unfair shadow of "un-elect ability". IMO it inhibits the movement from taking a majority position, which is essential. I liken this to being in the middle of a forest; your job is to find fires and stop them. You found the fires but so far unsuccessful in extinguishing them. To see a fire is important, to extinguish it is the higher calling. Is someone else better equipped to further the movement as previous efforts have failed to succeed? Please consider.
Chaos is perfect,it allows for us to be able to adapt and change,Become stronger mentally physically and Spiritually,Peace and Love fellow brothers and sisters
Really, Chaos is what led to Hitler, Stalin, Castro, Mao. The list goes on. It's amazing what people would sign up for when they are in pain, or there belly is growling. And considering airhead Americans have helped themselves, and stay dependent to the government troth...Chaos may not be what you want to shoot for.
Let me be a little more clear since most of you are too young to remember what a regional barter system was like in this country.
I realize that it's VERY hard for most of you to understand this, but there is a reason that bartering has technically been outlawed by the IRS. It strikes at the very heart of the taxation system that we have in place.
OBVIOUSLY bartering in and of itself will NOT work for 100% of our livelihood. What it WILL do is give each individual more strength in daily living.
There is simply not enough room on this comment page to explain how its effect would build stronger individual wealth.
I'm not concerned about how wealthy our government is. I'm only concerned about its citizens. At it's ROOTS we must understand that individual liberty is what makes this country strong.
I completely agree with the comment earlier about deflation.
We had a very short experience under the Ford admin where we had deflation and the value of the dollar actually INCREASED!
I pity those who don't have"those connections" or the education WHEN it comes.
Mom always said "Be prepared. It's better to have it and not need it, then to need it and not have it." Dad always said "Bravery may hurt, but ignorance hurts worse."
US has $288 billion worth of gold (unaudited) at current price levels. That can't even pay the interest on the national debt for a year. If we sold it all, it would pay for a couple of months of federal spending.
I am pretty sure the interest on the national debt this year is around $400 billion, based on about 11 trillion debt and the currently low interest rates. So if we sold all our gold, we could pay the interest on the current debt for about 7 months. Next year the debt will be well over $12 trillion maybe $13 trillion. I am just talking about the interest payment on the debt, not government spending.
@conspiracy777, bartering will not bring prosperity, there has to be a form of money for a complex economy to work, if by barter you mean have the market settle on a currency then that is a good route to go, it would probably just be gold and/or silver, but simple bartering isn't going to do anyone any good
It is going to take some outside the beltway thinking to get us out of this mess. Dr. Paul is one that could do that with the help of other like minded reformers in congress, the change must be a sweep or nothing happens.
Prof.John Hobson at Sheffield University(prof of international relations)has written of the loss of silver from Spain(rich and robbing S.America)to the Netherland onto China.Yet this wealth shift did not have China become a world power of course Spain fell off a snobby aristocratic cliff.
Aaaah! Sakura! You are scary! I wish someone would make your ideas into a movie. Have Stone or Tarantino direct it. Scare the crap out of Americans. That is the only way people wake up and pay attention: when hollywood brainwashes them. A movie of military coups, a communist US owned by China, an assassination, a civil war, a new truly Republic emerges, one that is strictly aligned to the constitution, and gold as currency. I guess my movie sounds boring. I'll leave creativity to the experts.
@poorperson that has to be the dumbest thing anyone has ever said.

Paul is blaming the Fed for his fellow politicians outrageous spending habits.
ejjm1 2 years ago

RoySC1 2 years ago

200 tons is only $6.7 billion. Doesn't seem exactly like a world shift in power based on that though I agree with what RP is saying basically.

Not that I know what I'm talking about, but it is 200 tons of gold. Gold. I think the point is to remember that it's gold, not bank bonds or whatever. i don't believe in usury-based fiat, especially fractional-reserve, because the elite can manipulate the currency and the economy. i don't believe in commodity-based currency for the same reasons. i believe in a true public usury-free fiat, like the lincoln greenback, colonial scrip, or british tally stick. money is not a commodity, it is merely a means to facilitate bartering.

True. Living here is scary, but imagine living in the countries that you don't know if you'll live to see the next day.

What I find even more interesting is how the FED got all its power in the first place way back in 1913.

texme 2 years ago
texme—
I realize your question was addressed to "Ron", but in case Ron doesn't answer, I'd like to chime in on this one.
The Constitution is not a contract. However, upon swearing an oath of office (uphold, defend the constitution, etc.), the swearer has engaged in contract with his/her constituents. The Constitution defines the terms of that contract. If a public officer or official breaches that contract, then that he/she can be brought to trial on grounds of that breach.

Atheistprimate 2 years ago 2

What it WILL do is give each individual more strength in daily living.
conspiracy777 2 years ago
There is simply not enough room on this comment page to explain how its effect would build stronger individual wealth.
I'm not concerned about how wealthy our government is. I'm only concerned about its citizens. At it's ROOTS we must understand that individual liberty is what makes this country strong.
I completely agree with the comment earlier about deflation.
We had a very short experience under the Ford admin where we had deflation and the value of the dollar actually INCREASED!

US has $288 billion worth of gold (unaudited) at current price levels. That can't even pay the interest on the national debt for a year. If we sold it all, it would pay for a couple of months of federal spending.
prescottbill 2 years ago
I need to look up the number, but I think it might only be more like one month of borrowing for us.
bttalbot 2 years ago
I am pretty sure the interest on the national debt this year is around $400 billion, based on about 11 trillion debt and the currently low interest rates. So if we sold all our gold, we could pay the interest on the current debt for about 7 months. Next year the debt will be well over $12 trillion maybe $13 trillion. I am just talking about the interest payment on the debt, not government spending.

We need to be given the freedom to set up more bartering networks again. The IRS frowns on bartering now and some would say they've made it illegal.
If we can learn to live on a system of trade among ourselves again you'll see the middle class thrive and grow wealth again.
Big corps and big labor would be put in their place and politicians wouldn't be able to dip into the cash flow.
conspiracy777 2 years ago
@conspiracy777, bartering will not bring prosperity, there has to be a form of money for a complex economy to work, if by barter you mean have the market settle on a currency then that is a good route to go, it would probably just be gold and/or silver, but simple bartering isn't going to do anyone any good
SpideyNinety08 2 years ago
No we won't, it's EXACTLY the opposite. The reason we've come so far is BECAUSE we don't barter...BECAUSE we have a medium of exchange (money).
