no destroyer or cruiser would get within 25 miles of the yamato without being blown to smithereens!as an american historian,i have "no axe to grind" this is just pure fact!japanese fire control was superb,their optics and watchcrews were well trained and superbly stationed aboard,the range of her guns in a "stand0up" fight was over 30 miles!what this game/simulation failed to include is stagering!colored shell splashes for rangefinding #1!

No, they wouldn't have. Because the idea of a Destroy is that of a light escort, while many cruisers were constructed with idea of heavy armament, light armor, high rate of speed to hunt down enemy Battleships.
I don't see any ships firing on Yamato at that range that should be able to stop her dead in water like that. Certainly splash size indicated far more than dd fire.

the kirishima,in guadalcanal's plccid waters..in total pitch black condition met a patroling u.s. destroyer at a range of 150 yards and closing!the destroyer's fire bounced off carrying away her own mast,and with her 5" guns blazing did more damage to herself as the shells richocheted off to no effect!orange flames belched out of the kirishima's main guns!small arms raked both ships!and again after a very brief holocaust ..again it went pitch black and silent!you couldn't tell sea from sky!
the DD actually fired at kirishimas superstructure, so she did a good deal of damage and she was to close to the kirishima that she couldnt return fire with anything other than their AA guns, and the DD got away after damaging alot of the kirishimas superstructure
