Ed McMahon was the best at what he did... and what he did was something very specific and easy to overlook. he actively supported the star while neither vanishing completely into the background and while never upstaging the star. This perfect balance of ego and humility is the very definition of professionalism.
well when Ed said to Jerry look! over your left shoulder he looked at his band and gets a timp but Ed says your left shoulder as if to say look at the toteboard for this #
i agree 100 percent big ed will be missed is there anybody who can fill big ed shoes on the telethon maybe tony orlando can switch to vegas this year. does anybody have any ideas on who be the number 2 on this year telethon. may big ed rest in peace the telethon will not be the same
I loved "Big Ed", as Jerry often called him. Going to be strange not hearing his voice on the show, especially when Jerry calls for a TIMPANI!!!!
What often amazed me was, besides his numerous other telethon duties, Ed addressed a toteboard hundreds of ways in 41 years - proof that he could pitch ANYTHING!

I loved the cut ins with Ed McMahon's booming voice and the plaque(?) bit was great. R.I.P. Colonel McMahon...

Maybe Tom Bergeron; he's one of the co-hosts of the telethon and is also MDA national Vice President.
