Great song!!! Beautiful video. Great photos. Thanks. I'm a Beatles fan but I've never heard this rare little gem. 100% Lennon! It almost sounds like "Beautiful Boy" to me. Some of the chords and the chord changes are very similar. Very Lennon. Awesome! :)
Don't think I ever heard this one before... Kinda cool. Anyone notice the chords (and melody sometimes) are nearly exactly the same as "Hey Jude" during the verses? The last chord of the verse is stretched out somewhat but I think that's the only difference.
@dytakeda Totally agree! 100% yeah. How on earth does this great song not make the White album? It's beautiful. It's sounds like Orbison or Elvis or something but also a nice salutation from India by the great John Lennon. Great song in my opinion.
I have included your video for explanations at harigeorgeson [dot] com - the best of George and the Beatles you might haven't known yet....
Ich habe Dein Video zur Erläuterung auf harigeorgeson [dot] com verwendet - das Beste von George und den Beatles, das ihr vielleicht noch nicht kennt...
The original of this is a demo with John and guitar. It sounds like someone added an accoustic bass, tablas, and synths to John's original. Does anyone know who did it? It's very nice.
I love this song! First time hearing it and it's super. I loved John Lennon and his music so much, still do and will always be my favorite Beatle a century ago! That is to say, John will be heard just as we do now centuries from now. Awesome. Thanks for posting such great stuff.
Cynthia said she was hurt and bewildered by Johns actions in India..anyway does anyone else thing this has a very Harry Nilsson feel to it? I know both had an Lennon were good friends.
Is the "king-looking" guy, "Sexy Sadie"? I don't know his actual name, but i know that song is based on him because he committed crimes of some sort (I don't know what crimes for sure though).
Lennon wrote India, India in the late 1970s for a musical of his own writing named after his song The Ballad of John and Yoko. However, the show was never performed and the track remained unheard. It seems likely that in India, India Lennon was writing about his 1968 visit to India, when the Beatles indulged their spiritual side at the ashram of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in Rishikesh. [Apun Ka Choice]
Well first off they broke up '70 and john died in '80 so thats impossible that it was in 1980 and they went to india durning 1967 and 68 and also in the description it says it was written in 1968 it has to be 68 or 69
John Lennon would be disgusted that people can't just listen to his music and comment on it in a civil manner. Why do you people feel the need to fight over every little thing? Let's make these comments civil in discussing one of the most beautiful unreleased Lennon tracks out there.
it's a poor quality of recording demo, with vocals and a guitar, but, If you listen closely you will see that it's a orchestra, and a bass, and somo kind of bongo or something like that
This is a rare John Lennon song written during the Beatles famed 1968 trip to India accompanied by some great shots of the Fab. Its about coming to India and trying to follow his heart, but knowing that his heart was really back in England where his love waited. It is speculated that Lennon didnt release it at the time because it would have made public his feelings for Yoko while he was still with Cynthia Lennon.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Why would Lennon hold back this song for fear of "public feelings" when Yoko Ono was pictured on the poster, is heard singing on two White Album songs, and is alluded-to in several songs? The sound, melody, voice, lyric, and playing sound nothing like Beatles-era Lennon. Use your ears and logic!
No, Hey Jude predates India. John wrote this in the 70's, I believe it was actually the late 70's, even though it sounds totally like he wrote it in '68 and it could have been on The White Album.
rad song! its a John song for sure! interesting, at 19 seconds when john sings " im searching..." it kind of sounds just like the melody on Hey Jude, when Paul sings the lyric "the minute you..."
seems like Paul borrowed that melody from John...
"India India" pre dates Hey Jude... love the Beatles!
Yeah, as mentioned before it really does have a 'Beautiful Boy' sound to it and a little pf Besame Mucho if it was slowed down (I know Paul sings that one, but still)... Great job on all these videos!
Every time I listen to this song I can hear some riffs from Mr Moonlight ...a little bit of 'Beautiful Boy' and a lot from John's early songs... 100% John's trademark...!
Good job-Nice mellow song to go with the gorgeous pictures! (PS-You can almost see the look of discontent on Cynthia's face at 2:40. Trouble in paradise!)
@MeanMrMustard99 cynthia got much money from the divorce and wasnt suitable as johns wife anyway. so i guess there is nothing unfair about the whole story
This song wasn't written in 1968, it's from the late Seventies. Certainly Lennon's voice doesn't sound here like it did in 1968.
And what's up with the overdubs?

I sit here at your feet so patiently
