He was 195 cm. 100kg. Wore 3XL shirts though in physical good shape. And he was the fastest big man on the line ever. His goalkicks were measured in a competition to be the most accurate in the world. And he practicly invented the long throw to set up good counterattacks. But the mental aspect of the game he mastered better than any. Oppusing players was often too intimidated by him to play their natural game. Im not sure that i will ever see a goalkeeper who comes close to his level ever again.

Having seen some clips of handball, though the sport is little known in the UK it is clear that his style is backed up with the skills learned in handball! A player in handball can throw the ball at around 50mph from about 10-15 feet away, so the keepers have to have lightning reflexes to stand any chance at all! I am surprised that the Premier league teams dont look at this for recruitment of goalkeepers as they, like Schmiechel would be the best shot stoppers in the world!

He is most likely the best goal keeper in the history of football, and I can only envy him and admire his unique skills.
