i beaten this game also but why is he not getting the power up in the first stage until he maxes out his bombs? (15 is the max by the way) I prefered the sheild with power up 4 the rotating balls give extra protection and they destroy enemies. try it, it will help out alot against bosses also. Still good job!!!!
gunhed, best movie, best game, best music, awesome special effects (from movie), awesome graphics (from game), kickass manga, all in all, gunhed rocks
WOW there is someone out there who can beat this game i never made it past the tank on level 9 until the other day and got to the tri-beast and after that my game got stuck. U-SUCK FOR BEATING THE GAME!!!! sarcastically saying.
I've heard a different ending theme as well, a more upbeat version. There's a way of triggering the ending from the title screen, but can't remember how to trigger it. I thought the I-II-I-II repeat trick got the sound test up? The difficulty screen rings a bell though.

I always did like that thunder weapon too (#4 right?). That combined with a shield. Of course if you lose that weapon late in the game you are doomed....
If you max out weapon I and then collet 50 purple orbs (without picking up any other powerups of any kind), a glowing powerup that looks like your ship will move down (or maybe up) the screen. If you pick it up, your 5 way fire will become 8 way fire. If you then pick up IV, you get the four orbs orbiting your ship and keep the 8 way fire, but you'll lose 4 of the 8 homing missiles... you'll be unstoppable.
Yeah, my brother had one when I was 6. I got a taste of it at a young age. It definitely failed here due to the lack of games NEC kept in Japan. Dracula X alone would have been a system seller for the Turbo Duo here.
when I first played this game i was like 14 and it was called gunhead or something for pc engine. 1 year before TG16 came to where i was in b.c canada. my buddy brought a pc engine back from over seas and man i didnt even know thoese systems existed at the time. nice video :)
I remember the only time I played this I was around the same age (maybe 10-12, and living in N.S.) and they had it running in a store display (Radioshack maybe?). I stood there and played for like an hour, I'm kinda shocked they never threw me out!!!!
And thus, my addiction was born and continues to this day!!!
I have always wondered.... what does that power up do that changes into the different types of guns and such, and if you shoot it enough it flashes? i pick it up and like the screen flashes and the ship next to the live count turns gold, but i havent noticed it do anything else
If you pick up that ball that is rainbow colored, once you die, you can continute right exactly where you got killed, not having to start way back in the level which helps you beat the level faster, or at least a better shot at beating it
_____The TANK BOSS has inspired my next CHROME HOUNDS creation! Hmm... Maybe we can have THREE howitzers up front. Of course it'll be on tank-treads... The spread-shot's easy enough; just use shotguns. (Remember when those things were cheat-weapons?) I'll just have to be ready to get owned because treaded vehicles in that game are easy targets. Still, it can be done!
That was funny.. You defeated the boss at the end of area 2 in like 5 seconds flat. He only had a chance to get 1 shot off before.. Area 2 Clear! hehe
BTW did you know about the hidden difficulty select screen? Hold select and keep pressing II and I back and forth during the intro cutscene. You can choose from "Normal Dog" and "Hard Human". You can also play it on "Super Mania" if you hold select when on "Normal Dog" and press II and I back and forth to unlock it. Do the same when "Hard Human" is selected to get the sadistic "God of the Game" mode.
Well, Compile designed Blazing Lazers/Gunhed. I don't think they had anything to do with Soldier Blade or Super Star Soldier. If you ever play Spriggan on the PC-Engine, its pretty much the spiritual sequel to Blazing Lazers.
Any chance of Spriggan getting on Virtual Console, stateside? I know you're usually a skeptic, what with most western exec's shunning anything "too Japanese", but with Star Parodier on VC, now ANYTHING could happen. And, an OVA based on Spriggan got released by Pioneer, which might make it a treat for fans of the anime who never got to play the game.
I dunno... I remember seeing the site for it before I found out that Spriggan was the original name of Striker, and I thought it had to do with the game. I kinda feel like an idiot now.

If you ever play Spriggan on the PC-Engine, its pretty much the spiritual sequel to Blazing Lazers." If that's the case, then why is the ship(first boss) from Blazing Lazers in Star Parodier - which is a parody of the Star Soldier series by Hudson themselves. ;)
Doesn't mean that the same team worked on the games. If you play Spriggan and Blazing Lazers, you'll understand what I mean. The controls, even many of the sound effects in Spriggan are the same in Blazing Lazers. Compile games have a certian "feel" just as Konami games, Capcom, ect.

KungFuRascals3 1 year ago
It's #3... Field Thunder. If you charge it up to the max level you can fire it and simply sweep to the side and clear out the whole damn screen.
Yeah, that coupled with the shield was beast.
SonnyAMan 1 year ago
The Blazing Lazers faq on gamefaqs said homing missliles were useless, along with the "I" weapon...bah!
This playthrough helped me finally defeat stage 9! The part after the tank boss was impossible for me without homing missiles.
Minion066 2 years ago
level 4 homing missiles are nearly unbeatable in this game. If you can make it to the last level with them you can own the boss.

You can turn off the text in the options screen in Spriggan 2.
