I am in the minority when I say this, but I think Dalton was the best. He had a lot of potential, he just never really had the chance to establish himself. It didn't help that his movies had the two worst theme songs. I think if he had stuck around and did Goldeneye, TND and maybe even TWINE, fans would be singing a very different song about him. I know he would have been 49 when Goldeneye was made, but I don't see why someone that age can't be an action hero.
Dalton was indeed a superb 007 and would like to of seen him do more. His darker approach was 20 years ahead of it's time AND SO MUCH BETTER THAN CRAIG'S INTERPRETATION!
(Second part of my comment). On an artistic point of view, and by far, Dalton has been the more "realistic" Bond. The franchise kept this "Dark side" of Bond, meltly with Brosnan, and totally with Craig (a brand new Bond, though). I liked all actors playing Bond as they all gived to the character his basing moral thinking (don't kill a woman, don't kill a 00 agent, the only things that put Bond really mad). I wrote an article in french Wikipedia about this.
Timothy Dalton has been the "best" James Bond, seen as Ian Fleming imagined him. Here is a link that shows a Fleming's draw of Bond tinyurl (dot) com (slash) 267v76p. Here is an official picture of Dalton-Bond. tinyurl (dot) com (slash) 22n34ku Dalton took on him the challenge of looking actually like the "real" Bond, an almost melancolic and coleric man, with some few humor. Following the Moore's Bond (actually the Saint with a new name) has not been a commercial success.

The Best Bond was Roger Moore:. he had the nice jokes, was looking good and was a very good actor like 007. Sean Connery most be the 2nd. he's good to!
@nenabunena I think Lazenby gave the most real and down to earth performance of them all. I love Dalton too, though. Shame both of their tenures were cut short.
I think if Goldfinger was made in Daltons time it would have been a fantastic Bond (not saying that the one Connery made wasn't brilliant because it was)
david niven best bond no question.zorin was a complete arse in a film which must rank as the biggest waste of celluloid ever.moore looked like he was embalmed;the wizzened old fuck.
No, I don't agree. Roger Moore was good, but George Lazenby was the worst. It's just sheer irony that he was in the best BOND film ever made - OHMSS. For me, DALTON is the best, with the superb Daniel Craig coming a close second.
Back then fans equate Bond's coolness with holywood's classiness and humor. Bond became caricature. Twas very diffcult for writers to bring back the agent. Dalton was 1st to put edginess & realism in Bond besides actually looking right for th part. Altho fans werent ready it opened a lot of possibilities for future Bonds. In License to Kill I really like how he pushed Bond persona further. I would like to see him develop further the Bond character. Dalton:Bond 3 wld hav been perfect.
I liked him as Bond actually, the best Bond is Pierce Brosnan all the way and the best movie is Goldeneye, the best of all the villians is Alec Trevelyan and the best precredits intro is Casino Royale/Goldeneye and the best song "You know my name" (Casino Royale). Tell about your opinions
Well MY favorite Bond is Lazenby. :P

I agree. Lazenby is under rated. He was suave and cool. My least favorite is Roger Moore. He ruined the whole Bond image.
