@TheManFromAlaska A net needle holds line so you can pass the entire length of cord through as you tie the knots. When you need more to continue tying you just let it slip off that center pin. There are a few videos on YT that show the process. I have yet to learn how to make nets, but the needles are fun to carve.
@TheManFromAlaska Checkout "WW6VlflNbTU" and "GVw6vmuCCZ4" for good example of the use of a netting needle. Also "y2VxvJ4dIE0" for how to add/subtract meshes.
I just bought my net needle (plastic) out of a local fishing supply. It is about half the width of the whittled needle here. I could weave smaller net holes with it about 1/2". This one is wider and suited for bigger fish nets.
I have a relative knife just like this one a victorinox huntsmen. Thanks for the video, it was very informative. I found this a better knife review than most. Also thanks about the plantains.
For this type of carving, I highly suggest a Flexcut Detail knife. I got mine at rockler for 20 bucks. I love to whittle and carve in camp environments. This is the best knife I could find for it. And use it as a survival knife too. (little carving knife + large survival knife is what I carry in the wild)
They don't come with a case, or sheath though. I believe they were intended for workbenches and tool boxes. I made my own, and find it worth the effort.
and all this time I have been *buying* twine needles! How silly of me! Thanks. I won't comment on the finger cut except to say I also have lots of scars :)
Thanks. I did this as a knife review. I got tired of seeing knife reviews that were all talk and no action so I decided to make a knife review in which I didn't say anything but used all the tools on the knife to actually make something useful. The only tool not used was the can opener.

man... No wonder you cut your fingers man...you look still very clumsy with knife. SEE? the victrinox ain't that good holding with...it does the jobs in emergency but not everyday use. Would you like to be fingers amputated in some jungles? go ahead!! LOL
Taught myself how to make nets and traps that use nets (turtle traps, cast nets, and bait traps). Saved a ton of cash by learning how to make nets, too.
Make my shuttles from bamboo which grows wild in my neighborhood.
A net needle holds a long length of cord so that you can pass the entire length through the net and tie the knots that hold it together. As you use up the cord you just unwind more and keep tying net.
Thanks for posting video of a neat project, for whittlers and woodcarvers. great way(and only) way to show working w/ grain w/ blade only... until next time..."watch yer fingers". Allen
Thanks, If i keep at it long enough someday I'll have half your talent. My stuff tends towards "Planet of the Apes". You have a great channel. There's lots of knives here on YT but very little being done with them.
when you say plantain, are you talking about the weed plantain introduced for Eurasia?Or some other native plant that has another common name? great video by the way! 5/5
Cool, but how the heck to you use it?

Now that I'm back in Brazil I'll have to carve a few with bamboo. I was in Pennsylvania when I did this video, not much bamboo there.

@quinten24 the victorinox swiss army knives are of very good quality, so if you use it within its capabilities it should not
