  • Hey, korgm50guy i need your help.. i've just bought a new korg m50 and have to figure out the basic features.. you say it doesn't have a favorite button or a one touch button using which i can shift from one sound to another quickly during a live performance.. so can you tell me how to store the sounds i need in a bank in the order i want so that i can move from one to another in a live performance ? Thank you! :)

  • What patch was that? I'm getting an M50 soon and like what you did. I'm sort of looking for a Peter Gabriel meets Zero One sound and that's in the target zone.

  • Can anyone tell me the names of the demo songs from my Concert EC 100 Korg piano? I searched every where but i can't find them. thx

  • Can you build up synths from scratch on the m50? I'm interested in building my own synths and nothing really says if the m50 can.

  • D F# G G F# C

  • Hi, is this M50 MIDI compatible for sequencing on, say, Logic Pro?

    thanks!

  • i know the M3 is, so I'm guessing the M50 would too

  • Yes

  • ekstra

  • Great :)

  • I can't afford it D: i'll have to go with X50 or maybe even cheaper..

    being in college sucks :D

  • same here...

  • I wish we could boycott to lower prices sometimes :P

  • Is there any way to change to favorite sounds with 1 click? This is SO useful during live performance. Roland Juno kinda does this with their category buttons, does M50 have any similar capability?

  • Hi Dave... There aren't "Favorite Buttons" (I know what you mean though, my BOSS DR 880 has them, they're great), but you could set up your sounds in a bank for a gig in the order that you need them, and then just click the increment button. Thats what I used to do for my guitar patches when I played live, even if it meant having duplicate patches.. that way when I needed to switch, I just needed to click once.

  • yes i found it very seductive....... when I played it the other day.. and so light... cats ass for live... cause i have Yamaha S90es.. and didnt want another heavy board.

COULD YOU PLAY MORE PATCHES.. say 20 seconds each like keybrdwzrd does..... thanks....

thinnk i'll order mine on monday

  • This thing is to cheap for its capabilities, i'm scared it will fall apart or something.

  • I wouldn't worry. Korg makes good stuff, and stands behind their products. I've got just the standard 61 key version, seems solid to me. If you're going to gig with it, get a Pelican or Storm case, those things are indestructible.

  • i ordered the 88 key too...it's coming this week =)

  • If you're looking for string and orchestral sounds, this baby has so many great options! I tried it out in the store and fell in love immedinatly! I ordered hte 88 key!

  • atlanticus, personally I'd go for the M50 if that's your price-bracket. For a start, it's a more current machine, but more importantly it's got a great heritage in the form of M3 and OASYS. By all accounts, the sounds on the M50 are amazing, and while it's not as expandable or as flexible as an M3, it's only half the price...

Going by what I've seen by the likes of KorgM50Guy, you won't go wrong with this synth.

  • Hey KorgM50Guy, I guess I need to 'fess up! I went to demo some synths, including the M50. I just couldn't pull myself away from the M3 - I knew I should've just stayed at home!

I was surprised at how much I liked the looks, but even more surprised at how it sounded! With the awesome keybed, conectivity, expansion possibilities, EXB-RADIAS, KARMA...I was sucked in and turned into a little kid again!

I decided to bite the bullet and have just ordered a fully-loaded M3-73XP :o)

  • That's awesome! Hey, sucking you in and making you feel like a kid in a candy store is what a good keyboard does. Nothing wrong with going for the M3... you just went first class while some of us contented ourselves with coach!

  • Yep, I definitely had that "kid in a candy store" feeling!

I tell you what though, the M50 is one heck of a synth, I still think it represents far better value for money, and I personally think it looks a lot nicer too. Is the M3 overkill for me? You betcha'! Am I going to ever squeeze everything out of the M3? Heck no, but I can tell you now, I'll have some major fun trying!

  • hey KORG knowing guys, could you tell me whether to go for this M50 or the TR series? Prices are just about the same...

  • @RhesusVX Out of curiosity, how did the M50 compare to the M3(sounds, features, keys, etc.)?

  • wait for the 76key version.............

  • Great demo. Simple is sometimes the way to go :) My M50 is on order, should be here mid week. It does everything I need and the sounds are..to my ear...excellent. Would have liked the 88 but I'm not paying another £450 just for that privilege. Keep them vids coming :)

  • hello korgM50 guy! what do you think about brass sections in your korg? are they good? I am interesting for that board and I want to know how good are the brass sections for a funk and pop-rock music, they are important to me. it would be very nice if you can make some demos of bread and butter sounds in your synth.

  • I'll see what I can do. In the meantime, if you get the chance, try the M50 for yourself. A thing to be aware of is that you can alter the sound a lot by using the four control knobs on what is called "the control surface". You can adjust the tone, among other things, to immediately tweak the sound, so its good to be able to play with it a bit yourself and see what you come up with, because you're not limited to the default settings.

  • man, thanks for the answer! I'll definitely check it out as soon as posible. yeah, I know that I can tweak sounds to my liking and I always do that because most of the factory sounds in every keyboard are not good enough. your demo is really nice!

  • I'm just so impressed my those two tracks you made! If it's really *that* simple, I guess I can't go wrong with this synth (I am an amateur hobbyist at best!). I mainly copy tracks by ear and just generally mess about. Hence why I don't want to spend double the money on an M3 when I have a perfectly good sampler right here (my PC) and Karma M50 available as a download soon...

  • Yep,I'm in the same boat as you and that's why I made the video. If you get the chance, try the M50 out... you can easily find the Combi Modes I used (they're within the first 20 I think) and see for yourself. Can't tell you what a boon this thing is going to be for our video production sound tracks!

  • Thanks, I'll definitely get out and give it a try. Just need to sneak out one long lunch without the boss finding out...ummm, hang on, he's out all week! ;o)

  • Thanks for the response KorgM50Guy ;o) I can't believe that so much sound is coming from so little! It definitely helped me make my mind up.

I'm not sure I'll be hooking up to a PC straight away, so I was wondering if you have had a chance to play with the internal sequencer yet? If so, any good?

  • I've used the sequencer to record, but not to edit. The record function is very straight forward and easy to use. I'll post back when I figure out how to actually edit what I've recorded, just haven't got to that point yet. You can of course record real-time, step record, and change the sounds of tracks you've already recorded. Also, you can record using a "Combi Mode" like the one in this video, and then add more tracks to that.

  • Again, just listened to another one of your tracks on this workstation, and I'm super impressed. I want a workstation for sure, but I'm just not bothered about creating sounds from scratch - presets are good for me. Not only that, by hooking this thing up to a PC via USB, it becomes an integral part of any software synth setup you have anyway, so the best of all worlds can be had quite easily. At the moment, I can't justify paying double the price for an M3, plus the M50 looks so much nicer!

  • Glad this helped. Also, I'm just getting through the manual, and it looks like it comes very close to building the sound from scratch, but yeah, its LOADED with great sounds. I play it every day, it just sounds fantastic. Also, in the "Combi" mode, like what I use here, just changing one or more of the sounds can give the combi a totally different feel. I kept both the demos simple, so you could really hear how great just a simple phrase sounds. I think you'll love it.

  • Thank's for the demo and info.

  • i'm pretty set on buying this, is it capable of sampling?

and, does it do everything your typical synthesizer can do? for example the x50, or a juno

  • It can't sample. Also, be aware that the sounds in the M50 are fixed, you don't generate sounds from scratch like you do with a Juno for instance. But you can do a lot of manipulation with tone, attack, release, decay, etc. That is something that does tend to separate a workstation from a traditional "synth", in that you're not programing from scatch. So you have to listen to the workstation and make sure you like the sounds, because that's what you'll be stuck with. The M50 sounds great IMHO.

  • alright sounds good thanks for the help and nice work

  • I want to buy a keyboard and my first choice was mo6 however after I tried both m50's (with headphone) sound quality looks better than mo6. However still I didn't made my last decision.

Which one do you think a better one in terms of feature and sound quality. Is it possible to make your own drum using the 61 keys on the m50. Please try to make other video with different voices, like strings accordion mandolin etc.

  • I'm no expert, but from what I've read through the manual, you can't make sounds from scratch, if that's what you mean. However, you can edit pre-existing sounds, and very extensively at that. I'm not familiar with the Motive 6, and I'm pretty new to the whole workstation thing. The KORG is really easy to use though, and sounds fantastic. The touch screen is really useful. I guess play with about both for an hour and then go with your gut.

  • This is just a super simple demo that I did with my Korg M50. Its using the combi preset "Towards the Sun" just to give an idea of how the arps and drum track sound. Notice how the upper keys sound changes when the lower keys aren't played.
