Heard a theory once that the high unemployment in the UK in the early 80s led to lots of guys on the dole deciding to make a go of it in the music industry. Self-starters, playing their own instruments, writing their own songs, from different scenes all over the country. Lots of variety and great craftsmanship.

My parents have mentioned Level 42 to me before, but it wasn't until they were recommended to me by a bass player on account of Marks great skill with a bass that I decided to check them out. I am seriously impressed, so funky and new sounding to me, even though it's older than I am :D
