  • says in the description 'Everyone heard it once in lifetime' I haven't hahaha, but I was only just born in the 80's(89) quite a funky song and I agree that this should have been in GTA Vice City, Rockstar are suppose to be making a new one in Vice City so maybe this will be in there then =)

  • Great song. Question. Does anyone know how to play the keyboard intro or have access to some sheet music they could PM me?

  • Wow they played this one last week on last week's show in New York, awesome!!!!

  • Unbelievebly unbelievable ! !

  • this song is so amazing

  • Full on funky tune. Why was there such great music in the eighties but most of the stuff nowadays is disposable money making utter useless sh#t.

  • @MrBellend1

Heard a theory once that the high unemployment in the UK in the early 80s led to lots of guys on the dole deciding to make a go of it in the music industry. Self-starters, playing their own instruments, writing their own songs, from different scenes all over the country. Lots of variety and great craftsmanship.

  • pur vibes big souvenirBig uuuup a tout les musicos

  • lol he has a unique singing style

  • AHHH mR kING.....funk.genius personified......!!

  • Mark King is the king

  • <3 just fantastic sound...makes me soooo happy <3

  • WTF!?!?! i never noticed...at the end of the vid he plants the bass in the ground stabbing the head into the ground!!! MAN thats a spendy bass. i hope it was a stunt double

  • Mmmm 80's funk:)

  • I remember going to see them on the guaranteed tour back in 1991, what an atmosphere!! it was amazing! this band is legend and outdoes todays bands hands down! Level 42 forever!

  • @Moozer11 I don't think it's cheesy, it's funkyfunky :D

  • My parents have mentioned Level 42 to me before, but it wasn't until they were recommended to me by a bass player on account of Marks great skill with a bass that I decided to check them out. I am seriously impressed, so funky and new sounding to me, even though it's older than I am :D

  • Bringing the white funk!

  • Haha! This was on an Ashes to Ashes episode.

  • @fassaalbrecht It was! I just watched the episode it was featured in and decided to look it up on here to see what the video was like. Level 42 remind me of growing up in the 1980's. Good times :)

  • The world comes crazy, Lady gaga 's video make millions, Level 42 only 200K

Damn world, back in the 80's right now :)))))))

    Kiss from France ^^

  • Horrible music. Level 42 were good only till about 1982. The rest is disco shit

  • @BestOf90sCCM i can understand haha

  • Aaahhhh quarries. Catering to 80's bands, Doctor Who and Red Dwarf what a fine establishment they are.

  • ashes to ashes ftw

  • @chiddas1991. Haha, I heard this on ashes to ashes too, and thought....... tuneage lol. Another good episode aswell!

  • Great song! Cheered me right up!

  • Mark King is a fucking god on that bass! :-)

  • beautiful song!! thanks for uploading this one!

  • I love music and I can say Level 42 is one the most underated band in the world. Who was their manager?

  • @Boneidol82 the bass player's brother...

  • Mark King - has a name never been more deserved? For he must be the king...of slap bass, destined to rule over us all with his killer licks and sexy-ass funk. Long live the king. Mark King.

  • Phil Gould is great. Level 42 is one of my favorites.

  • THAT'S A GROOVE. NICE.

  • wie cool kann nen bass groove eigentlich sein? oder muss man stoned sein um sowas zu schreiben?

  • I didn't know barak was in a band!

  • Right bout the one and right record these mf's made.....

  • Have they patched things up and are back together ?...

This song is the definition of being cool, the melody, the lyrics...

  • @Takrezz , you make feel old. I was 27 when Level42 was popular. :-)

  • first time I heard this song I was about 8

And I used to play Level 42 song all day with all the air-guitar and air-drum lol

now I'm 28 I still love this song...minus the air-guitar off course XD

  • I never tire of this song, timeless!!

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Mission #30 - Check Out at the Check In.

  • @Intoxiqated

Hahah ;-) I'm going to put this in the music map :'D

  • @Intoxiqated

Not every song they wanted was given a go in terms of permittion. That is, if they wanted this, of course. It would have been great in Paradise FM or Espantoso.

  • @Intoxiqated they had to save room for shitty songs instead.

  • Very cool Ashley Panghorn Bass. Very Alembic like ,like a JD. But I see a 5 pin output?.

  • Mike with/without mustache look absolutely different person^^.

  • that guy has a dumb face

    lolz

  • wow what a tune i love it ..

  • świetny kawałek

  • I wouldn`t say all of the musicians in 80ies were real talents- but at least the music business still had some real personalities: Queen, Level 42 (amazing bass line by Mark King which means "handmade music"), Michael Jackson and many others. And today: Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga.... YAWN....

  • i fooking love this song!

  • Guess you were born in 1988? So you weren't an adult/teen during that period of time. It is all a question of taste, I guess. But if gay means bad or untalented in your language I must say I can't find lots of real talent or exiting aspects of todays so-called music talents. Much moneymaking on MTV and anyone can produce a song- a nice vid will make up for the lack of talent.

  • Good lord!!!!!!!!!!! I had forgotten about them. Hear this and am straight back into a party I was at 26 years ago!! Oh they were good! - and so was life back then!! WHAT FUN!!!

  • i have been a level 42 fan for many years and i reckon mark kings basslines have yet to be beaten what a joy to listen to

  • Holly Shitt!!! This is Great!!!!

  • @ganzha6667 Sorry made mistake for the voted.I click the left side.....I supposed click the right side....How to fix it??

  • mark kings cool as a fukin penguins...

  • never heard it before but it's not bad

  • Brings back good memories. :-)

  • i mean level 42. oops lol

  • man... Yes has epic bass riffs

  • when music was happy...and had feeling.

the templated shit that comes out today is sad.

    level 42!

  • "Live for the Groove"

  • And your band is called?

  • peter parker and the submarines

  • What kind of music do you play? Do you have a sample of it online?

  • There's never been anyone better.

    I'm growing old.....!

  • So gute Musik gibt es heute gar nicht mehr........

  • Great song. I love the way that woman kicks her dance partner up the arse at 0:53!! lol

  • This song is great! This might be the worst video I've ever seen though

  • Guys - search Dj Yoda 'Wheels' for the modern remixed version of this song!! Let me know what you all think!

  • Haha that was pretty funky man, you gota love DJ Yoda. I might play bass along with that version later.

    Cheers for that dude :)

  • '' i dont wanna go to war sed i dont wanna go to war. Sed i no wat i want and i dont wanna go to war'' hehe xD

  • god i hated them when they were 'out'

but this 'groove' is rather good

  • Beatiful catchy little 80's tune this is.

  • Well Cool Takes me back!!!!! Love it!!!!!

  • Whoa! Nostalgia! XD Last I heard this I was like... Five I think? Har. Well anyway cheers for uploading mate.

  • É um dos melhores que já ouvi.Curto esta banda a bessa! tenho 25 anos e admiro pra caramba os anos 80.

  • Awesome track, serious summer, driving, window down track. Possibly with aviator sunglasses and a 70s/80s tash! Bring back the ol' days!

  • Ray-bans and rolled up sleeves ;-)

  • I think more people should listen to Level 42. Especially the funk enthusiasts. I don't think enough attention is paid to this band despite the --illions of records they sold.

  • transported back to the school disco ;-)

  • there best song without a dobut is mr pink. its one of the greastest songs ever written. in all honesty all there songs are out of this world but mr pink is a step above the rest

  • Damn, cooltarget, that was hot. Level 42 was straight ignored in the US. They never should have been.

  • Mark King == Slap Bass President

  • This is one of their best, of course, but "Hot Water" is my favourite! If you don't know it, seek it out and have a listen... ;)

  • This group didnt get much exspoure in the south. Thank God for friends thats how I heard about this group

  • that mike lindup is hot

  • mark king is gorgeous in this video! they were all so young :)

  • i love this song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Funny lyrics!!!

"There's a girl in the back makin' eyes at me,

and her hair, long and black, is a sight to see.

And I get kind of scared, when love's around,

I just live for the groove 'til the sun goes down."

    *LOL*

  • how's that funny??

  • She's my soulmate we'll be together till the sun goes down....

  • get down with ya bad funky self, mark!

  • You sing that song, Barack!!!

  • Wow, absolutely adore this song; happy dayz....

  • how old was mark king when this was released?he looks like someone else on this video but can't think of who!

  • He looks like Gary Busey...:D

  • When the fashions were this bad, the music HAD to be this good.

And it was exceptionally good indeed.

  • it reminds me when i used to dance to this like a crazy person in the eighties at the youth club. i am 37 now, good times.

  • best thing about the 80's,

no matter how crazy you danced,

    it was cool...

  • One of the most ridiculous bands of all time. They looked awful and the video's are bad! But one of the most talented collectives in music history.

  • Mark King is a Legend Bass player ! They rule

  • I'm going to England next year and I hope to god they are gonna be playing while I'm there!!!! If I saw them play live I would die a happy girl :)

  • real music real talent

  • English, 16, Learning Mark King's songs

Loving every minute I play :D

  • I want all there albums ... These guys are fa nominal ... they sound good on my stereo system.

Love the clean sound these guys have...nice!! Talented!! Unlike the crap that's out now. The world has to wake up and realize what real talent is again. Not this computer crap that's out now and ripping off other artist. Not being original. Come On World!!

  • is that david spade or annette benning as their drummer

  • phil gould (his brother boon is on guitar)

  • yeah cause i was totally serious.

  • Ha! Barack Lindup. Wonderful.

  • Fond fond memories of that hot summer in 83 - old skool !!

  • Apsolute classic Level 42, Mark has talent with a bass beyond compare....

  • Wonderful music!!

  • I'm a sort of hardcore fan of Level 42 :P I'm dutch and 15 yrs. old. I love it!

  • I'm 27 and I love this music...now we need to be tortured by just rap shit. By the way this guy, looks like Obama! Level42 is one of the greatest groups from 80s

  • i used to have this song on cassette off the standing in the light album.man oh man.what a group.thanks for the video.love it,love it,love it.

  • am i the only american under the age of 40 that loves this band?

  • yes

  • i'm italian,i'm 20...and we love level 42... =)

  • nope you're not the only one! i'm 22 and i would do anything to see them :) let's start a group called "level 42 fans under 40" haha

  • I'm 17!

  • who is the girl playing piano in the black and white frame next to the keyboard player?

  • Album: Standing in the Light, according to tonight's research. I think I gotta have it.

  • it is a great album.i had it when i was a kid.

  • Question: What album was this on? I got it from LEVEL BEST: Best of Level 42

  • It's on their 1983 breakthrough album Standing in the Light- if you like Level 42, I'd definitely recommend getting hold of the album, it's excellent.

  • Wow! Didn't know there was a vid for this! THANKS FOR ADDING IT!!!

  • this song is freaking fabulous! i turn this shit up loud in my car when i'm stuck in traffic coming home from work friday night. i love level 42!! they need to come to the U.S.

  • They used to play this in the UK on an album with an intro of "Welcome to Bondi Beach, the sun is shinning, the waves are good...blah blah blah" and then played this song. Must have been a to get the tourists traveling. Funny, now I live in Aus, its really a UK get down and boogie song though!

  • So, you're the "2 percent!"

  • ♥ ♥ perfect song ♥ ♥

  • when ya watch level 42,or any other white funk band, just think this, the higher the bass player holds guitar the funkier it gets! I speak the truth if mark king gets any funkier he'd have a guitar beard!

  • Haha!!

    I want a guitar beard!

  • As soon as Barack Obama's victory was announced on Tuesday night, I danced to this song all across my front lawn. The sun certainly has gone down on a very long eight years, and we've now got forward motion!

  • HELL YEAH!!!!

I'm so happy and i'm not even American! Bless you lot for making the right choice :)

From your friends across the pond :)

  • so cheesy but so good, so 80's !

  • I know! Don't ya just love it!!

  • wow what a song

  • Wonderful music!! I like Level 42!!!

  • Great organic groove and writing. Glides above the tune-free nonsense which gets cooked-up on a mousemat.

  • Saw the band on sunday at Bristol 19th-It was lovely being 20 years younger for one night !!

    Great band.

  • OK, I just can't believe that you can't get past the bass. This song says alot about our culture! IMHO, the video says it all! Ahhh yes, and the band is outrageous:) It just doesn't get better than Mark King and Level 42!

  • THE BASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

  • just seen level 42 in sheff. october 15th. propa amazin. im 20 and im in love with them even though i didnt know them in the 80`s

  • just seen leval 42 with my mam at the newcastle city hall on the 14th october one word fantastic

  • I disagree that Mark was surrounded by people not as talented. The Gould brothers wrote a good portion of the songs. Boon Gould is an excellent lead guitarist.

  • First gig, Stranglers in 1979, Rainbow, Finsbury Park. Then Sham 69 in 1980 again The Rainbow. Over 150 gigs later the highlights are D Train, The Paladium NYC, 1980's, Stones Brixton late 90's, Queen/Gun's n Roses/U2 all Wembley, Ian Drury and Madness Finsbury Park 1994, Oasis Maine Road late 90's and The Who (not a fan but great gig, John Entwhistle!) in Toronto. Recently seen Foo Fighters and Stevie Wonder. Best, Chilie Peppers, LA. Great show, great musicians, with loads of energy, Flee!

  • Love this song bought the record for 50 cents and this was a keeper a real crowd pleaser
