Hey everyone, check out a free streaming of this documentary at Panda's Thumb! The link is on their website. The stupid board of education truly proves that ignorance knows no bounds.
For anyone who hasn't watched this film yet, I recommend it, but you should definately have a good punch-bag nearby as you'll have un-controllable urges towards reactive violence at the mind-numbing obstinate stupidity displayed by the Creationists. They not only are utterly ignorant of science but, even more frustrating, they are Proud of that ignorance.
You can't be a forerunner in science when you don't do science (physical research, testing predictive models, showing evidence for your view). Creationism and ID don't encourage people to form testable models. How does this type of assertion of truth without science help any scientific field? Understanding how we got the biology we have is greatly important to the field of medicine and greatly important to how we view ourselves as sentient beings.
Its amazing how these religious nuts get all offended at the thought of being related to apes yet have no issue with being made out of dirt and a rib.

"All truth passes through three stages. First it is ridiculed, Second it is violently opposed. Third it is accepted as self-evident." -- Arthur Schopenhauer (1788-1860)
@toobsucker So since the pope accepts evolution and says it's kosher for Catholics to accept evolution, does that mean that Catholicism is also the religion of atheists?
@SimoonSam "So since the pope accepts evolution and says it's kosher for Catholics to accept evolution, does that mean that Catholicism is also the religion of atheists?"
No it means Catholicism is a heretical religion for subscribing to a non-biblical theology.
You have "concrete scientific facts" that prove random copying errors in a single cell can produce overlapping digital coded information including the error correction mechanisms and the codes for protein folding?
toobsucker, actually, in the United States there are more Christians who accept evolution than atheists.
If you want to discuss the appearance of design in science class, all you need is a successful testable hypothesis"
Christian accept adaptations to environment VIA the selection of information already on file which is the vast majority of the "evolution" being witnessed.
Evolutionary science has already proven I.D. valid by intelligently rearranging DNA sequences
@warriorprince1010 Actually, there is no accident in evolution and natural selection. Everything evolves by a design set by many factors. Just because some people are too ignorant to comprehend what evolution is, doesn't make it a chaotic occurrence.
Genetic information can be increased in genomes by several mechanisms, two of which are (1) gene duplication followed by divergence, and (2) exon/domain shuffling.
Biologists are not stumped in the least as to how genetic information can increase; scientifically ignorant people like you are.
Kansas....safe heaven for American rednecks. Well, I genuinely hope that this will change for the better in the future, but right now that's the truth.
I simply dont have the amount of blind faith required to believe in darwinian evolution. Unless of course someone here could provide an example of art with no artist, design with no designer, content with no intent. In all my years of school education I found absolutely nothing convincing enough to back up darwins claims. If it was just those little diagrams in the text books then I'm sorry, snow white and the seven dwarfs also seems plausible.
I do have to say I think I have the BEST Senator in the State of Kansas. Sen. Steve Abrams of the 32 dis. I also go to church with Dr. Abrams and he is One heck of a Guy!
I'm sorry to say that it is not just Kansas. That is one of the points that this documentary makes. Currently the debate is being waged in Texas (that's for you Lubbock88) and it has already been battled in Ohio, Pennsylvania and on and on. The point is not that Kansas or Kansans are . . . well, unevolved, but that there is a cultural debate going on - watch the film and learn about the people that are fighting on both sides - they are all amazingly human (evolved or not).
oh, i know. And I've heard of something going on in Florida too, with regards to this "controversy". I don't entirely remember where I read this, though. : (
@rightrules7 - What is darwinism? I know of no ideology (-ism) surrounding Darwin. What I do know of is evolution which is a fact. And Evolutionary Theory which is a Scientific Theory supported by mountains of evidence.
And I definitely do know where I got my facts about evolution. I get my facts from the peer-reviewed scientific literature. Why would you bet I don't remember where I got my facts?
Anywho, I guess if evolution is false then all the discoveries made from the theory (including breeding, genetic diseases, cloning, stem cell research, and the human genome) are false as well.
Would you like all of science to be removed from your schools? Apparently you use a computer. These were created on the same scientific principles that confirm the usefulness of the theory of evolution. Do you take any medicine? It would be fairly useless if there were not so validity to the ideas proposed by Darwin.
@Treefrogs2 "guilty of being a shameless proponent of scientism" lol wut? Scientism? Is that even a word? lrn2Engles.
"computers have nothing to do with Darwin" Two words. 'Evolutionary Algorithms'. If you don't know what that is, just stick to the big letters: Best optimization method yet.
"medicine has nothing to do with Darwin." Good luck fighting the flu with penicillin then.
"the origin of species does not explain the origination of species" It's not meant to.
the scientific method can and is verified by logic.
Computers are related to science which is related to darwin, the same goes for medicine.
Also to not believe in evolution is to discredit modern medicinary practice. Why do we have viruses? How did swine flu and other diseases come about? Because these organisms are evolving, and its a constant battle to come up with new antibiotics and medecines.
The OOS doesnt try to explain origination if species. Learn about abiogenesis.
The scientific method can be verified by its success. Science is, hands down, the best method every devised by learning about the world in which we live. Science has increased our knowledge of life and the universe more in the past 400 years than religion did in the last 10,000.
@DNAunion LOL everyone knows things change. People have ALWAYS known that things change. Speciation is just a biological concept. It just proves that things change. So what?
I'm sorry, I though you trying to actually say something when you said that the origin of species doesn't explain the origin of species. I should have realized you were just spewing more meaningless shit out of your mouth.
This damages those who cannot or refuse to think for themselves. It takes a lot of work to learn and understand the explanations that science provides. I could see why someone would want a shortcut. However, it is not intellectually honest to circumvent science with falsehoods.

You have "concrete scientific facts" that prove random copying errors in a single cell can produce overlapping digital coded information including the error correction mechanisms and the codes for protein folding?

@toobsucker
Facts refute your claim.
Polls of the general US public show that of those who accept evolution, twice as many believe in God as do not. Evolution is not atheistic.
DNAunion 11 months ago
toobsucker, actually, in the United States there are more Christians who accept evolution than atheists.
If you want to discuss the appearance of design in science class, all you need is a successful testable hypothesis.

Christian accept adaptations to environment VIA the selection of information already on file which is the vast majority of the "evolution" being witnessed.
Evolutionary science has already proven I.D. valid by intelligently rearranging DNA sequences
toobsucker 11 months ago

Unbelievable. As if we needed any more evidence that Creationists are idiots, they come out and make blatantly stupid comments like this.
"Kansas will be held as one of the foreruners in science."
Only if the Creationists go extinct.

I'm sorry to say that it is not just Kansas. That is one of the points that this documentary makes. Currently the debate is being waged in Texas (that's for you Lubbock88) and it has already been battled in Ohio, Pennsylvania and on and on. The point is not that Kansas or Kansans are . . . well, unevolved, but that there is a cultural debate going on - watch the film and learn about the people that are fighting on both sides - they are all amazingly human (evolved or not).
vonSchlemmer 2 years ago
oh, i know. And I've heard of something going on in Florida too, with regards to this "controversy". I don't entirely remember where I read this, though. : (

@ScientiaVeritasEtLux - I bet you dont entirely remember where you read about the facts backing up darwinism either ;-)
rightrules7 2 years ago
@rightrules7 - What is darwinism? I know of no ideology (-ism) surrounding Darwin. What I do know of is evolution which is a fact. And Evolutionary Theory which is a Scientific Theory supported by mountains of evidence.
And I definitely do know where I got my facts about evolution. I get my facts from the peer-reviewed scientific literature. Why would you bet I don't remember where I got my facts?

I'm glad I didn't move to Kansas.
God, I'd probably be dead by now.
Anywho, I guess if evolution is false then all the discoveries made from the theory (including breeding, genetic diseases, cloning, stem cell research, and the human genome) are false as well.

NO DARWIN IN MY SCHOOLS!
acms13 3 years ago
Would you like all of science to be removed from your schools? Apparently you use a computer. These were created on the same scientific principles that confirm the usefulness of the theory of evolution. Do you take any medicine? It would be fairly useless if there were not so validity to the ideas proposed by Darwin.

@vonSchlemmer the scientific methiod cannot be verified by the scientific method. You are guilty of being a shameless proponent of scientism
computers have nothing to do with Darwin
medicine has nothing to do with Darwin.
the origin of species does not explain the origination of species
Treefrogs2 11 months ago
@Treefrogs2 medicine has nothing to do with darwin? you only show your ignorance.
it is only evolutionary biology that makes modern medicine possible. the same biology that makes paternity tests possible.
evolution has everything to do with medicine
oneadamtwelve86 11 months ago
@Treefrogs2 "guilty of being a shameless proponent of scientism" lol wut? Scientism? Is that even a word? lrn2Engles.
"computers have nothing to do with Darwin" Two words. 'Evolutionary Algorithms'. If you don't know what that is, just stick to the big letters: Best optimization method yet.
"medicine has nothing to do with Darwin." Good luck fighting the flu with penicillin then.
"the origin of species does not explain the origination of species" It's not meant to.
Your point with all this?
Razgrits 11 months ago
@Treefrogs2
the scientific method can and is verified by logic.
Learn about abiogenesis.
dudesonman4200 11 months ago
@Treefrogs2
The scientific method can be verified by its success. Science is, hands down, the best method every devised by learning about the world in which we live. Science has increased our knowledge of life and the universe more in the past 400 years than religion did in the last 10,000.
DNAunion 11 months ago
@DNAunion "Science is, hands down, the best method every devised by learning" =scientism
all you are doing is appealing to authority. Unfortunately you CANNOT use the scientific method to test the scientific method.

Dumbass, you need to provide some context to your posts. Are you too stupid to do that? Without context, your post is meaningless.
DNAunion 11 months ago
@Treefrogs2
1) Genetic algorithms, which are special types of computer programs, have something to do with Darwin (evolution, to be more precise).
2) Engineers have even developed hardward that evolved, using field-programmable gate arrays.
DNAunion 11 months ago
@DNAunion by that standard everything has something to do with something, which just thins the broth of your soup

Reproductive isolation resulting from the formation of reproductive barriers (which can be either prezygotic or postzygotic) explains speciation.

@DNAunion LOL everyone knows things change. People have ALWAYS known that things change. Speciation is just a biological concept. It just proves that things change. So what?

what was the first species that all life originated from?

This damages those who cannot or refuse to think for themselves. It takes a lot of work to learn and understand the explanations that science provides. I could see why someone would want a shortcut. However, it is not intellectually honest to circumvent science with falsehoods.
