You're right to choose is not damaged by this bill. In America, if you are hurt or sick you can get attention. But if you are not insured, you get a $1500 ambulance bill, followed by a hospital bill. They are making competition for the corporations to lower prices so everyone can be insured, not just some.
You do realize that the only people that would be negatively impacted by this are the health care companies who charge huge premiums for people who are unlucky enough to have bad medical history in their family right? Currently Health care takes up about 14% of our economy, which is twice what it is for most other industrialized nations. Compare the heavily government regulated healthcare industry to the relatively incredibly deregulated technology industry. In the former prices are going up significantly, something not natural in the market place to that degree, and in the latter prices have gone down. It isn't ideology.
The example you brought up is perfect in showing how the Cato finds evidence to reach a forgone conclusion, instead of conducting honest inquiry.
For the analogy of the technology compared to human medicine to not be a fallacy technology has to be similar to human health, which it isn't in the least. If I can't afford a computer, I don't buy it. If one of my family members gets sick, I spend whatever I can to save their life.
It's this type of intellectual dishonesty that typifies Cato.
You are misrepresenting how a health care market without government intervention would work.
With health savings accounts and without HMOs and the like, people would compare the hospitals with the lowest prices and best outcomes just like any other product. To say that health care somehow defies the laws of a market economy doesn't make sense. To rectify this anomaly, one must only look at how heavily regulated health care is and how involved the government has become with it.
You seem sure of how health care would work outside of government interference, and from what you are saying this seems to be coming from your ideological belief that government interference of any kind is bad, as opposed to an actual understanding of how health care works.
I think that medicine undergoes pressures unlike any other industry and so to apply simplistic generalizations about the proper role of government to the issue is myopic.
So, what industry is it that you think is analogous?
The burden is on you to prove your statement of why the hc industry defies a market economy.
While my opinion does come through the prism of an ideological perspective, it does so with a lot of research on hc specifically and more broadly on how a free market operates. The pressures from normal, unregulated market forces on hc would bring down costs, as I pointed out previously.
Look to colleges. The fed has gotten heavily involved in providing funds for students and prices have sky rocketed.

Then within a week of the Democrats taking majority and forcing immediate budgetary changes literally turned this country around in a matter of weeks from almost having a balanced budget to the fastest increase in debt and depression this country has ever seen. We now have the largest % of GDP deficit since the Great Depression. Reverse and void ALL budget measures from past 2 years to fix this DEM shit.

His facts are completely incorrect because Obama's plan is actually creating jobs, and has promised not that the government will take over health care, but that it will simply provide coverage for the American people who cannot afford their own (once again the epitome of Republican greed, which I believe is the main reason why they are fighting this bill). He is good as far as Republican candidates go, but that isn't saying much. I'd rather be on the side of intelligence Mr. Ryan.

Problem is - Pelosi isn't working to keep what is already in place - and the fees and punishment involved make no sense - and the lack of choice makes no sense - - - we do have public healthcare as well already - - - medicare and medicaid - THOSE needed fixing - and the government should have simply opened up competition between the states in the Free Market which would automatically have more companies open up and go down in price. The employer mandate and the individual mandate would tax the middle class. You're right to choose is not damaged by this bill. In America, if you are hurt or sick you can get attention. But if you are not insured, you get a $1500 ambulance bill, followed by a hospital bill. If you are on a fixed income or the $15-$20 an hour job can't support that. There are just too many people falling through the cracks. Yes, there are certain aspects of this bill that are not perfect, and not all people are going to like them, re: higher taxes. But should we continue to allow insurance companies to put high prices on our well being? No. So this bill is taking needed steps to fix this. They are making competition for the corporations to lower prices so everyone can be insured, not just some.

You do realize that the only people that would be negatively impacted by this are the health care companies who charge huge premiums for people who are unlucky enough to have bad medical history in their family right? And let me put it into perspective. You break your leg. You aren't insured. Don't you think that as a human being you should be treated and not turned away b/c you can't pay for it? As a good person, I would be proud to say that my tax dollars went to helping you heal.

I think that everyone SHOULD be treated. I do not think anyone SHOULD be forced to pay for someone else.
This is a question of freedom. I know you have good intentions, but if you want to help people get medical care, donate to charities, don't rely on the government to take on your moral responsibilities.

Cato is not an honest broker of information. They are much too attached to libertarian dogma.
What makes the idea of just donating to charities unfeasible is that it will do nothing to curb healthcare inflation. Currently Health care takes up about 14% of our economy, which is twice what it is for most other industrialized nations. Healthcare inflation is currently out stripping wage inflation 4 to 1 and constitutes a large part of our national debt. Its a question of economics, not freedom.

The Cato institute relies on peer reviewed studies and research when writing their articles. Many of their "fellows" are graduates of Harvard and other Ivy League Schools.
You are correct, but health care inflation is caused by the government. First through its regulation, TORT laws, its massive medicare/medicaid systems and HMO's.

The Cato Institute is an advocacy group for a particular ideology, hard line Libertarianism, as such, according to the Cato Institute itself, its job is not to aggregate empirical data irrespective of their implications. The facts you hear coming out of Cato tend not to be all the facts, but a selection of which support a Libertarian perspective. An example would be your claim that government is the sole cause of health care inflation, which is an ideological position, not an empirical one.

Cato "is a non-profit public policy research foundation." If you have read their studies, then you would see that they are incredibly balanced in their representation of data and use empirical evidence.
Compare the heavily government regulated healthcare industry to the relatively incredibly deregulated technology industry. In the former prices are going up significantly, something not natural in the market place to that degree, and in the latter prices have gone down. It isn't ideology.

The example you brought up is perfect in showing how the Cato finds evidence to reach a forgone conclusion, instead of conducting honest inquiry.
For the analogy of the technology compared to human medicine to not be a fallacy technology has to be similar to human health, which it isn't in the least. If I can't afford a computer, I don't buy it. If one of my family members gets sick, I spend whatever I can to save their life.
It's this type of intellectual dishonesty that typifies Cato.

You are misrepresenting how a health care market without government intervention would work.
With health savings accounts and without HMOs and the like, people would compare the hospitals with the lowest prices and best outcomes just like any other product. To say that health care somehow defies the laws of a market economy doesn't make sense. To rectify this anomaly, one must only look at how heavily regulated health care is and how involved the government has become with it.

You seem sure of how health care would work outside of government interference, and from what you are saying this seems to be coming from your ideological belief that government interference of any kind is bad, as opposed to an actual understanding of how health care works.
I think that medicine undergoes pressures unlike any other industry and so to apply simplistic generalizations about the proper role of government to the issue is myopic.
So, what industry is it that you think is analogous?

The burden is on you to prove your statement of why the hc industry defies a market economy.
While my opinion does come through the prism of an ideological perspective, it does so with a lot of research on hc specifically and more broadly on how a free market operates. The pressures from normal, unregulated market forces on hc would bring down costs, as I pointed out previously.
Look to colleges. The fed has gotten heavily involved in providing funds for students and prices have sky rocketed.
