  • Hello again Go0s3maN I havent got very far beceuse the dealer does not know what I am trying to replace but right now it's going to machine shop with me so I have help getting the peened nuts of. Also I am powder coating the calipers, getting drilled Brembos for the front, stainless lines, clutch (which I said before) and going to glass bead the 17" motegis and powder them in pearl white.     I replaced my clutch a few months ago. I would like to add that ONCE you crack the engine and Tranny case.. Use TWO low profile jacks.. OR a bottle jack and jack up the engine until the Seperation between the two is square.. That way when you release the fork and seperate them it is MUCH easier.. Your not fighting the weight of the tranny sitting on the Dowel pins that come out of the engine bell housing...

  • Very good suggestion. I would also add this - make sure you have the car jacked up high enough. The case is about 14" tall (IIRC)... plus the transmission jack (or whatever you are using to lower it).

  • whats up i have a quick question... how hard is it to rebuild the 02 wrx transmission? i also have the 02 with broken second and 3rd gear syncro gone.. ive swaped out engines and changed cluches b4... i wanna do it cause i love subarus nd i wanna build it.. let me know... nice video..

  • That depends on just how much of the rebuild you want to do. Getting the transmission out is a typical removal process (although is can be a real pain to get the transmission separated from the engine). Do not attempt to open the transmission case unless you have the Subaru repair manual. As far as actually removing the gears and syncros from the shafts... I would leave that to a suby dealer... or a local shop that is familiar with Suby trannies. Good luck!

  • Thank-you for the info... I think im gonna stick with the idea of rebuilding it and just having the suby dealer deal with the shafts like u said... i cant help it im a wrencher that loves subies.... thanks again..

  • Hey I am puting a clutch in my mom's 02 WRX (which I love and take care of ) and I can NOT get the damn transmission separated, which is how I found your video & your comment. I am frigin glad I found this!

  • It took me nearly 2 hours of beating and prying between the engine and transmission before I finally got them free the first time. There are 2 dowels (one on each side of the engine - left and right) that get stuck inside the trans housing. I started with a steel putty knife to get in between the housings... then a screwdriver... finally a wonder bar (including a large amount of pounding and swearing). Good luck!

  • @Go0s3maN . Alright I got the dowels out but the throwout bearing is stuck, I beat the fuck out of it and sprayed it with WD40 and still no luck. Any ideas?

  • Did you remove the release fork before pulling the transmission? On the top of the transmission (right side if you are face from the front of car) there is a 10mm allen bolt the needs to be removed. Once removed, you will need a 6mm screw inserted into the release fork shaft (I used a bolt from the timing cover)... then pull on that bolt to free the fork shaft. The release fork should then drop into the case. You will NOT be able to remove that transmission until the release fork is removed.

  • @robinleveille220988 IIRC it was around $100. Don't have the invoice to check.
