  • Very interesting : )

  • kinda sad wow is getting beat by some college kids at their cinematic skills...

  • @Nevistrix do you actually read the words at the beginning. Besides, its not that wow can't make higher quality cinematics. The whole idea of wow is that it can be played on any computer with a graphics card.

  • @drcool41 i think i should clarify what i said: I have watched many of the VFS videos made from students and i just posted this comment here after viewing such fantasic visual preformances.

  • @Nevistrix oh ok, but still what I said about wow stands

  • steampunk VS stone alien things.

  • Is this a video game? or a movie? or just a test?

  • @ShadowManV3 the visuals are a cinematic from the game "Rise of Legends". Our student redid the soundscape as their final project at VFS. Thanks!

  • So When Does It Come Out? lol

  • this is awesome haha. Rise of Legends is a jewel of this decade of RTS's, and will rise again. It's intro rivals that of blizzard in quality.. beautiful job.

  • I don't we wouldn't be able to hear the ship break apart in space.

  • class!!!

  • this reminds me of "The matrix revolutions" but like a million years ago lol

  • So and advance space faring civilization crashed on a planet of magic monsters, and 3000 years later there at war?

  • Wilhelm Scream @ 1:54

  • this sounds terrible compared to the real version. why make it the sound again?

  • 0:47 looks like a planet in star wars

  • wow this is alot better than the original sound for the trailer!

  • cool! looks like a great story!

  • More....... I want to see MORE!!!!!!!!

  • These manly men are cute, but do they floss?

  • "Dam..and I was having so much fun".

    Great one liner....

  • 1:55 ...Am I hearing that good?! Is that...The Wilhelm Scream?!

  • :28 i know its just a vlip but theres no sound in space :s

  • Wolrd of Starcraft??

  • Steampunky

  • great job :D

  • at 1:56 you made a kind of mistake there.....the clockwork men aren't human so they dont need to scream

  • GOOD :) *****

  • OMG that was amazing!!! Lol steampunk forever

  • haha the squishing sounds.... kinda repetitive and unreal. ie 1:17 and 1:41, visual is pretty cool tho

  • Let's go. This is real.

  • Damn, is as If I were watching a porfessional videogame, I've just found my school!

  • the animation is good but there's something missing on its sound quality..but still,it's nice

  • I don't think most people got that this is a game trailer... and that Mike Maksim just made the soundscape :(

  • The Cutscene was made by Blur Studios

VFS did not create it? you mean VFX worked on it.....sigh!

credit where credit is due please :o

  • @littlelcaude Check out the slate at the beginning of the video - the student just created the soundscape. Thanks!

  • @littlelcaude Learn to read, genius.

  • what program do you to make these videos?

  • la verdad me gusto un chingo el vídeo yo quisiera saber hacer eso...

tengo muchas ideas y la imaginación me sobra...

solo me falta saber utilizar estos programas...

la neta mis respetos... los felicito...

  • omg thats so cool!! awesome loves it!!

  • is VFS holding another contest this year?

  • We don't have any concrete plans right now, but keep watching this page for updated news.

We would recommend you speak to one of our Admissions Advisors to discuss all the financial options available to you. Just fill in the form at vfs(dot)com/startnow and someone will get back to you.

  • wow thats amazing

  • i would most certainly go c this if it were made into a full length movie. great job and keep up the amazing work!

  • wow this was just ...... just ...... unbelievalbe .....i really cant wait to go to vancouver film school .........

  • @kaberichatterjee1 me too, and i'm still 15 :'(

  • Epic

  • 10 out of 10 for you guys

  • holy crap, this is the best thing from vancover so far:D

  • WHAT HAPPENs NEXt???

  • omg amazing

  • omygod whatta fight!!!

  • wow the best so far

  • 1:55 wilhelm scream

  • That was alot of fun to watch

  • WOW!!! This is INCREDIBLE!!! It was like watching a battle scene in star wars!!!

  • i agree, the sound levels werent balanced and the rock creatures moaning was a bit shit. other than that it was good.

  • The video was very well done but I thought that all of the audio could have been better.

  • wow amazing.... and mmmm wat he said

  • Very very good ability shown here, while I do not agree with the choice (mainly the sounds the scorpions made) I definatly I am surprised and awed by the talent you've shown. I am utterly amazed and I look forward to seeing future work. Six out of three stars.

  • Awesome Steampunk fantasy war thingie is awesome!

  • make games!!!

  • this is too fucking cool!!!

  • cool

  • teh bestest EVAH!!!

  • Did you guys have Dylan Cole paint those mattes just for this piece or did you just use? curious

  • just great!!

  • You should be very proud of your work. And the understanding that you've gained through this process. I like how you can explain your work as well as take feedback so well. You seem like the kind of person people would like to hire in the biz. Keep it up and best of luck to you. You're definitely a good credit to your school.

  • I liked the creatures.. creative.. I really dug the dragons though.. looked scary! =)

  • I want to play the game now!!!

  • looks like a bad ass game, dude write a story and sell it to like blizzard

  • Acutally it's already a game, called Rise of nations: Rise of Legends. Sorry Microsoft has the copyright.

  • yea i just saw the description. its just blizzard makes bad ass rpgs

  • I dig the wilhelm scream at 1:54 :) How long time do you have when you're doing these sound design assignments/projects?

  • Thanks. The Wilhelm is quite an audio cliché, but Bob liked it and said it fit well there, so I kept it. In regards to time line, we get about 4-5 weeks from the start until the instructor panel, and about a week later we have an industry panel where guys from various post studios and game audio teams review them.

  • (continued from previous comment) It's a lot longer than people get in the real world to do a piece like this. But it's great for students because it allows time to constantly tweak it and improve it based on all the helpful feedback received from meetings with VFS instructors (most of whom are also currently working industry pros) throughout the process. All in all, a very valuable learning experience, and a great end result. And as the VFS slogan says, results matter.

  • just the grunting of those rock creatures seems weak, but other than that it was good. The mechs plasma gun thingy sounded great

  • Yeah that was one thing I look back on now and wish I had done differently. The reason I went with a grunting sound was because they have no mouth. So I posed that, if they had a voice, it would be muffled and inarticulate. In retrospect, I think a big, menacing, gritty/crackly monster voice with an IR verb effect that made it sound like it was inside some sort of trunk would've been better. Then the psychoacoustic impact would be that there's a mouth somewhere underneath a layer or rock armor.

  • A lot of the sounds were terrific. I only question a few things... I agree with envoy3, the squashing sound didn't work. Something about the crumbling noises of the earth/ rock/ clay creatures sounded kind of light weight same for when the man kicked what looked to be a heavy metal lid of some sort over. It seems the lid should have had a heavier sound. All in all You kept me engrossed and your sounds were pretty belivable. Good job.

  • I second that JayneMariefromDet:) same stuff I would have commented on.

  • Thanks for the feedback. I just listened to this video and realized it was not my final 2.1 mix. My final mix was heavier, thicker, punchier, and had a few other little changes. I think the final 2.1 mix on my website at deifiedaudio[dot]com (it's on my portfolio/animation page, and also on my leveleyed youtube channel) comes across much better. Please check it out and let me know if you can hear the difference, and whether or not I managed to fix the "light weight" issues.

  • Nice work.

  • that would a cool movie

  • The game itself would be q cool movie. Look up Rise of Legends, that's where this clip came from.

  • 0:54 reminds me of lion king

  • Beginning let me thought it was Halo 4 :O

  • That was some goos sounds, but guys, the vid, if u raed the beginning it from a game made by big huge games and microsoft, NOT VFS

  • the squashing sound is wayyy to comedic..hah.

  • so many people think VFS made this trailer XD, and they dont even know its for a game =p and yet, i loved this game, would pwn if they do a sequel of that game with the engine of CoH..

  • the sound effect on the robots cannon was awsome dude good work i like alot of the stuff it all fit keep workin at it :D

  • wtf is this? this guy just dubbed over the intro to rise of legends.

  • He is a sound designer, dubbing is what he does

  • Good Vid....Good plot hero saves the day

  • holy crap. now that was wicked. awesome vid. kudos

  • O_o

    WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW

    I LOVE

  • me encanta la parte donde el dragon destroza el helicoptero

  • Vancouver Film School !! thats like right in ur ass if your where I am lol

less thsi is USA vancouver or wtvr

  • If anything I would say this is better than the original and I am a huge fan of this game.

  • very good work by Michael Maksim! all sounds are perfect with the scenes and totally realistic, well done!

  • O.O That looked like a professional game trailer.

    Awesomely epic!!!!11

  • Comment removed

  • It is for a game called Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends.

  • That was pretty awesome.

  • Why is it so quiet?

  • you need 5.1 surround sound

  • @TakeBackTheWorld - Check out my final mix on my leveleyed youtube channel. It's much louder and heavier.

  • COOL!

  • theres no sound in space silly

  • True, but I didn't want to take the "2001" approach on a piece like this, and the instructors agreed with me on that. If you want to see a realistic sounding space movie, see 2001: A Space Odyessy. If you want to see a space movie that sounds good, see something else.

  • Amazing!!! The quality of stuff that comes from this place never ceases to amaze me :D

    Well done

  • Did he just design the sound??

  • Yes. I thought it was fair at best.

  • F#%kin Awesome that was great.....period

  • That was kickass in so many was, entertainment wise and 3D wise

  • he just did the sound

  • And had to travel to Brussels to do it! :P

  • he didn't do the 3d

  • Awesome work! This is one of the best things I've ever seen by Vancouver Film School! Great job Michael Maksim.

  • good work, but original audio for this intro is better (=

  • haha. cool sound engineering. i feel like this would be a really cool movie hook.

  • That was awesome. If you read the description, the visual media is not from the school, its Microsoft's. The guy from the school only did the sound and stuff. But anyway it's awesome

  • AMAZING. I caught the wilhelm in there.

  • This is the best film i have seen so far from VFS. I really hope that this gets filmed into a movie and if it's a game i'll buy it. This is seriously the best of VFS

  • it's actually only sound design. all the visuals were provided by microsoft..

  • Epic!!! I love it!

My buddy commented on how he hoped it was a movie when I showed it to him cuz I didn't tell him it was for a game. ^_^

  • amazing

  • Excellent audio work :).

  • great work.

  • THIS IS FREAKING AWESOME

  • This seems very similar to those Blizzard reels to introduce the story behind Starcraft and Diablo II, but better. Maybe a videogame could be built on top of this.

  • I think it was great but the screems could be a little more shrill. GOOD WORK

  • wow sick vid they should do gaming:)

  • lol 1:55 wilhelm scream! good sound work

  • nothing short of amazing.

  • Really very good!

The music really matched very well, I feel.

  • as the monster rips the arm off at 1:25 the elektro-sound was too small i think but the eletrogun at 1:29 sounds grat :D

Most of that was really good

  • Somehow, this reminds me very much of the third Lord of the Rings film;specifically the scenes involving the defence of the human city of Minas Tirith.

  • sound effects and sync are great. only thing i didnt like was the background music. it's to calm for such a wild battle, it needs more verve.

  • lol ok

i was like "WOW! I should switch school!" until i read the comments....sounds r still great

  • VFS, is it possible to see what happens next?

i got interested to this xD

  • I though it's great except the music. Then I read the description..

  • HAHAHA

  • E-P-I-C XD

  • great work. i want more of this!!!!! 5*

  • he's got 4 arms :D

  • Comment removed

  • i watched both versions. this soundscape is so much better. more realistic

  • The robot's design was awesome!

  • also worth noting from reading the other comments: don't the other commentors realize that the visuals were not created at VFS? Seems like a lot of them think they were.

  • good soundscape. Back in the day, I probably watched that Rise of Legends intro more than I actually played the game so I could tell just how different this one sounded. Its too bad the game turned out to be such a disappointment in the long run considering how awesome Rise of Nations was.

  • but this is the trailer of a game named Rise of Legends...

  • awseome

  • I would pay to see this in a movie!!

    Great work!!

  • remarkable, that was really good. if only i could do this. they should make more following the storyline of this, in my opinion its some of the best ive seen from vfs. amazing.

  • As noted at the beginning of the video, our student did the sound NOT the visuals

  • Wow,the details, visuals and rendering of the film is fantastic. The music came in at the right moment too.The style and feel of this film is suited for that of a game.Vancouver's got some raw talent.

  • simply a 3-syllable word AMAZING

  • Is it just me or is the sound really low?

  • the same here ... sound low

  • I would pay whatever to learn how to make stuff like this =(

    really amazing

  • This does look like it could be a good game

  • omg if this game is half as cool as this movie...

    nice sound btw :P

  • lol wilhelm scream

  • sound design is totaly underrated. Everyone says: "great animations" but nobody respect the importance of the sounds.

    great work!

  • I really liked this game. It's a shame it didn't take off more.

  • genial therew must ve a game for this liek a awesome trailer

  • GREAT !!

You should upload this in HD though : it deserves it !

And I'd love to see a full movie based on this "trailer". ;-))

  • its a game

  • What if it doesn't exist in hd?

  • HD = better picture

Also better sound on YouTube, wich is the point here.

  • All well done....only music doesnt fit.

  • This is awesome!!
