In my opinion, it was just a desperate attempt to give Claire a storyline. Her story was over after season 1, her season 2 and 3 storylines were good, though.

As far as not seeing any signs with her character in previous episodes, here are my thoughts. Her character is a young woman in college and alot of experiences come from this time in your life. Its not like her character just jumped into it, there was alot of confusion and conflict with herself. She questioned it and pondered on the information just like most people in the similar situation do. It wasn't until she had someone like Sylar open her eyes and bring some light to the situation.
I actually was surprised and happy to see the lesbian story line. You don't find alot of shows on television with some diversity in it. I hope the story line continues in season 5.
well i love the gay story line for claire and her room mate. it's cool, but i hope the writers don't cut off that story line but just let it evolve, bcuz then you'd know that they only did it for ratings

Sorry, I have more. It definitely is a ploy to grab ratings. Theyre waving their arms around going, dont look at the glaring plot hole, teenage boys, look at the sexy lesbian! the writers have been floundering the past few volumes (though I think all three have had their good points and Fugitives began to pick the ball back up a bit), the quality of the product definitely supports Bryan Fullers claim that there has been great division and in fighting in the heroes writing room.
That is my exact issue with this storyline. There is nothing to support a change in her sexuality. Also,the writers have proven themselves to be particularly bad at establishing relationships, they just tend to shove them in your face and yell, 'ACCEPT IT!'This would need much screentime and development.Heroes does not do that. Daphne/Matt, Caitlin/Peter, Sylar/Maya, Mohinder/Maya (who I think people hated as she was so weak a person regardless of her ability).I'd rather see a NEW gay character.
I dont know what can be done to save the show at this point. The character development is one of the biggest problems with the series. I can understand the character of Claire acting Bi-sexual because she is still immature and discovering herself despite all the crazy things she has experienced. My issue is how would the current writers handle such a thing. It could be interesting or it could fail big time. From what we have seen out of them so far, it would likely be stupid in the end.
I think that a successfully established character shouldnt be altered in the name of a story's plot unless the change would improve the character as a result. If a writer isnt going to make them better somehow as a person by making them Gay or Straight then such a thing shouldnt be touched. Catwoman is already a strong, cool and sexy character. Having her turn lesbian would hurt her as one of the things that make her cool is the sexual tension between her and Batman.
Batwoman however has been recently reintroduced as a lesbian in the Batman comics. Her previous incarnation wasnt interesting and never caught on back in the day. This version of her is better developed and because she is Gay, a different type of situation is created as characters like Dick Grayson/Nightwing are attracted to her but she has Zero interest in them sexually. Being gay makes her unique. To have her go straight would ruin her established relationships which helped create her success.
This could make things interesting. I've missed quite a bit of series 3 so i will have to catch up. It would be better if they just put it in as something new not just to get more viewers.
I dont even necessarily people are born out of the womb homosexual but I'm sure its not an overnight decision like they are proposing for the show. She was all over every dude in previous seasons now she just is going to try out girls? makes zero sense to me but if anyone agrees or disagrees feel free to comment on it.
