Calm down, folks. Sinkholes (including big ones) have been forming naturally for millions of years. Human activity can easily create them. Natural ones occur in many parts of the world.

Google the term "karst" if you want to learn something, or check out the USGS, rather than simply freaking out.

New sinkholes are often related to land-use practices, especially to ground-water pumping & construction.
