  • the max factor looks very grey.. but thank you for the help :)

  • The 'Second Skin' Foundation made me look greeny grey! it was horrible! I had to take it off straight away - why they would produce such silly colours is beyond me

  • ur skin is naturallly beautiful

  • i think you guys shouldn't use the revlon custom creation foundation because i heard from other youtubers that it breaks people out, so i'm also avoiding that foundation xD i've heard the renew & lift doesn't do anything for looking young but it's a good foundation regardless :] i've also heard max factor has been discontinued since the beginning of 2010

  • I love your voice :)

    And your videos, too :)

  • As of January 1st they no longer sell Max Factor in the US. I bought a mascara in December and it came with a Covergirl coupon telling me that. It was very depressing.

  • You actually can't get Bourjois in the US. I have tried the Revlon one though, it was okay, but not enough coverage for me. I always go back to studiofix fluid! Great Lash Mascara, nail polish, and lip gloss are about the only things I by at the drug store these days.

  • You look good with all foundations!!!

  • how is ur fake tan? i mean Xentan...when i was working for Selfridges..there was the counter of Xentan there..not sure how about now but never tried it...is it really good like they say??

  • Just as a warning for other people - i bought the max factor second skin 2 days ago and it's given me a rash! I don't think it's max factor foundations in general because my previous foundation was max factor as well and that was fine, so i think its just the formula of this one. Otherwise i thought it was nice foundation (good texture and coverage) but i personally won't use it again because of the rash factor.

  • OmGosh!

have you seen the new foundations with the paint-roller brush LoLx

    It's hysterical

  • Your comparison vids are fab. So informative and saves us a fortune.!!! haha You and your sis are brill. Thanks lots....

  • The Bourjois foundation is great for oily skin and I highly recommend it if you have breakout prone skin. In addition it has a pleasantly subtle fragrance and it really does not feel like a drugstore brand because the quality is by far very high-end - I have even heard that the Bourjois brand is owned by Chanel. If this is true, I am not surprised , as they do have some similarities in their product types and qualities. It is a tad more expensive then the other brands but it pays off very well.

  • I have the second skin, its a bit oily when you apply it but it dries off after a few minutes, I usually use it for day make up, I really love the maxfactor compact foundation more than the second skin though

  • Nicky, you're great! :D your sister is kind of seriuos person, but you always make me smile, because of your humour :) thanks for your advices, and we are waiting for more rewievs :)

  • she makes me laugh!

  • Love your videos! Thank you.

  • What do u mean by a "powder base" foundation for oily skin?

  • what would you recomend for skin thats prone to spots?

  • I like that you are trying drugstore foundations, most of us can't afford the real good foundations :( - Thanks for the info.

I also wanted to ask if your skin is dry to comb. and the foundation does not stay in place what should I do? I've gone thru tons of foundations and can't find one that does not come off my face I look spotty PLEASE HELP!!!!! THX

  • one shade darker with the max-factor

  • could you do some other drugstore product tests and give us your opinion?

  • thanks for trying these out for us!!!!!

  • can you recommend any foundations for oily skin, Nic? ah, you just answered my question. a powder base. what's a powder base?

  • How do you keep your skin so clear and healthy looking? I would like to see you make a video about your skin care treatment. Or you rating skin care treatments from the drugstore.

  • what foundation would you recommend for someone with very oily skin that's decently cheap? :)

  • dream matte mousse is really good but it gives me spots :(

  • great information!

    looooved it

  • max factor one is verrrry grey and greasy looking! thanks for this - really helpful :D

  • you totally should have tried Revlon Colorstay Foundation. That's what I use everyday & prefer it over my MAC Foundation. I also have Rimmel Lasting Finish foundation that I use when being photographed. It's quite a full coverage but is a bit oilyier than the Revlon.

  • you dont need make up, k?!

  • RE. boujour brush foundation- I think the 'tint' was perhaps teint which is just french for foundation? I may be wrong if so I stand corrected.

  • aha, not really i live in west midlands and my superdrug's tiny, still have to go on our knees to get to the ones at the bottom, REALLY annoying,,

  • Thanks for this! I've honestly never even tried drugstore foundations, think its first thing I ever splurged on, used to save up all my pennies from my first job in school as a dogsbody for at my local Toni&Guy to go and buy high end make up! So its nice to see them reviewed! Thanks x

  • My fave drugstore foundations are Bourjois eight hour sleep effect and GOSH x-ceptional wear. Usually I'm too pale for any brand to correctly match me, but these two are pretty close.

  • although collection 2000 is cheap you should try their lasting perfection foundation it is extremely good has fantastic coverage i dont even need concealer.. and i dont usually use collection 2000 but their foundation is awesome i really think you shoud try it

  • You are honestly hilarious.

  • all those problems that you had become exponentially worse when you dark skinned as i am. ive given up on drug store foundations because even if a brand happens to make a shade deep enough to be viable for me, the drug stores dont seem to carry it! i'll always have to hit the dept store counters...

  • same with light tones. either white or to dark. and there are never pin undertones :(

  • I know the one you mean i think its discontinued, when i ran out of that i moved on to clinique and its just as good, recently forgot my makeup bag on a trip and was useing a friends she had true match i think its loreal and i was shocked at how good it was incredibly long lasting photoed very pale though

  • When you have the chance, could you try the Revlon Colorstay foundation? I'd really love to hear your opinion on it.

  • i ve used every single highend brand in foundations and i,m keep coming back to Loreal Infallible advance never fail foundation with amzing coverage and satys very long .you should give it a try :)

  • you must try Revlons 3D Extreme Mascara pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeee !!!!!! you,ll love it .

  • revlon color stay is the best drugstore foundation ive ever come across x

  • Foundation..

Thanks again! Love all your vids, your true inspirations! x x

  • Great Video - Thank you!! Was really helpful.. CAn I recomended for your next drugstore adventure :) too get Loreal Infallible Revlon Colour Stay foundations - there both really great! And are more of a heavier coverage/matte finish than the ones you tried. I think the Revlon Colour Stay also has foundation for different skin types - but those two I defenitly ones to check out! Also Max Factors FaceFinity Compact which is a powder foundation is really comparable to MACs Studio Fix Powder Plus

  • I quite liked the Rimmel Renew & Lift but it broke me out so I had to stop using it. That's my biggest fear with cheaper foundations.

  • im glad somebody done this because it is very hard to pick out foundations from drugstores.

me myself love my mac but not everyone can afford more expensive brands and it is very difficult to find ones that match your skin x x x

  • I think any foundation looks nice when you first put it on, well most. It's how it wears thats the clincher. You should try revlon colourstay if you like a fuller coverage, it's really lovely!

  • revlon colour stay is brill, its the only foundation ive had that actually matches my skin colour, i'm really pale n always end up orange, revlons colours go really light

  • Yea, Max Factor Second Skin is sooo bad, it not only does not cover well it leaves strikes on the face too (a clear indication it doesn't last well as well). I don't know what the makers tested in the factories of Max Factor... I really don't. Same for Revlon's foundations (all) including the concealers (orange based lightest color - hello? ). Such a disappointment. Bourjois is closest to a professional one from all drugstore foundations. I guess that's why they sometimes sell it as Sephora too

  • I love the fact you took brands we can buy worldwide :) so sad I don't live in London anymore...

  • This is such a funny video, I love it!! Nice one Nic. x

  • I was a long time thinking about to get a expensive One Foundation ( just been pi** of always searching a good one cheaper) so I got my all 6 Month Makeupshopping and my lokal Drugsore had a great Bargain on Chanel Vitalumiere ( saved full 15 € ) so I grabbed it ... and I LOVE IT !!!! The Times that I got one I like and cant find it after 6 Month and buy another and another One, because the "cheap" Brands change the Produkts all 3 Month are GONE ... I come up at last saving Money !!!

  • Ohh this was reallly helpful XD

  • I Used The Rimmel London Reneiw And Lift But Its Too Shiny For Me Its Like A Mosturiser Its Really Oily Aswel :D xx

  • Great review/comparison I find that the chemists and drugstores can be so overwhelming as there is so much choice and so little info! Was great to hear your thoughts :)

  • Good Review, I used to use Rimmel london Foundation, for some reason i think its really think, and has a strong smell, i Used Second Skin foundation now, and i like it Not enough Coverage though, its more like a Tinted moisturiser for me.

  • I use boots natural collection and it does the job just fine (: i would like a bit more coverage from it but it does the job

  • Your videos are great! So easy to follow and understand. Helped me a lot :-)

Just wondering... when u put on foundation, (and u have a few blemishes) do u put on straight after powder or concealer or...? Thanks for the vid :)

  • i work in a drugstore, i know how it sucks when all the testers are missing... but it's really hard to keep them in a good condition when they get touched by all this coustumors all the time ;_; so don't blame us, okay? ^^

but thank's a lot for this video, i've got an oly skin and now i'm not going to buy the max factor :)

  • "Dear FTC,

Sadly, we paid for these foundations."

    HAHAHAHAHAHA

  • with the revlon one, that's the same thought I had---you'd end up with one side or the other having a lot more.

These types of reviews are so helpful to us who cannot afford expensive makeup and/or don't have the means to test them all out ourselves. Thanks!

  • have you tried Revlon ColorStay the ones that have different formulas depending on your skin type?

  • the revlon minerals is a nice foundation too...but the packaging is really silly with the tiny brush they expect you to use.

Do you find that revlon is more suited for people with yellow or pink undertones to their skin? I have very olive light skin and few drugstore brands accommodate my skin tone. Thanks!

  • what tan do you use on your face ? (: get back pleasee x

  • Now you see what us average people have to deal with!!! Haha. I am on a severely tight budget as I'm 17 and don't have a job, so I'm relying on what my parents allow me for makeup and such things. I completely improvise my makeup and work on a trial and error basis. So I have only one brush for eyeshadow, and sponges for foundation. It sucks.

  • Gr8 vid. When buying foundation from a drugstore (prob just the time of year why it was like that) it might be best to take one of ur existing fave wiv u & colour match it the best you can cuz I've done that in the past. Yes it wld be nice to be colour matched by an assistant all the time but sometimes u can feel more pressured into buying it on that day & u cld prob go home & get it cheaper on the web than in the shop..

  • You don't need foundation!

  • If you buy cheap or expensive make-up, you're still getting ripped off...

  • thank you!! this was very helpful for me, I got today the Max Factor one, very happy with it! At my local superstore you can try the shades and texures, the Revlon and Rimmel are too "greasy" for me, the Borjours was unavailable, the MF had a nice offer 1 foundation+1eyeshadow and I got a free makeup bag with 5 samplers..cool!! (btw MF shadow n.101 is very similar to MAC vanilla!)

  • I know this is kind of late since you've already made the video but if you ever make another on foundation could you do a covergirl brand?

  • the Bonjou's one is great i use it all the time (:

  • thanks a lot for this video. this is what i need to know. i have an oily skin and most of these drugstore foundations are not good for my skin. i wanted to buy the max factor but as i can see it is not good for my skind type. thanks a lot again for this helpful video!

  • very helpful! but i've never heard of bourjois in the States...has anyone? where could I get it..?

  • i dunno if its sold in the us cause i use only estee lauder and MAC, but i know that its everywhere in europe (cause i go there a lot even thou i live in the us)....

  • i have the rimmel renew and lift foundation in ivory and i think its one of my favourites to be honest. it lasts all day and does lift your skin likes it says it does, well it lifts mine anyway lol

  • have you ever come across with kryolan stick foundation ? many makeup artist in my place use it for bridal .. i think its too heavy, though.. but sometimes its useful for someone with very bad skin .. when concealor also cant help to cover their scars n concealor. I really wanna ask for your opinion of this product if you know about it. btw, tq for all of your videos :)

  • She looks a bit like the chick from paranormal activity.

  • That Bourjois was sold in a drug store? In America, you can only buy that at stores that sell only makeup (Sephora, Ulta, etc), and it's $24, which I converted to be about 14.5 pounds. Is that how much it costs in the UK?

  • i can't watch this video past 9 mins :(

  • what all over spot or in general any conceler do you use that wont make skin break out....i would really love to know thanks : )

  • wow bourjois is drugstore brand in the UK?

  • Your hair is cute.

  • Thank you so much for doing this! I just ran out of the foundation I normally use to find they discontinued it, so I was looking for a new one and wanted reviews!

  • So helpful!

  • loved watching this review. i especially love your imitation of sam : ) wanting to try the bourjois... looks fun & handy to take to the boyfriend's for a sleepover. xoxo

  • great video! i was hoping this morning that you would put up a video about foundatins! =) thanks!

  • id really like your opinion on collection 2000 :) nice videos too :D

  • heyyy, great video, i buy all my make-up form drugstores and i see what you mean but once you find one you like its all goood, they are cheaper than other high end vbrands that i cant affor so i spose i will have to survive haha

  • Thanks for this video. You're so right about the lack of information given on displays and products. I think it's a real failing of companies. I always struggle with colour selection because there's never enough choice, not all colours are stocked in all stores and samples aren't always out. Grrrr.

Have you come across any foundations that are good for very dry skin (ideally drugstore but any really)? It's something I struggle with so would be interested to know.

  • I use the body shop moisture foundation. I dont have super dry skin, however, so it may not be quite right for you. But you might like it, and unlike going to a drug store, you do get some help with choosing makeup in The Body Shop, and its the same price bracket as the ones reviewed here.

  • Only problem is that if u get it wrong girls, you cant take it back once u have tried it. Can end up being a total waste of money. Luv your page , luv the Leona look xx

  • have you tried revlon colorstay foundation? I've read so many good reviews of it and a lot people say it's the best drugstore foundation and ever it's better than some expensive ones

  • I sometimes use Revlon Colourstay and I find it great. It feels quite soft on and provides a nice coverage without having to use too much... I'd recommend getting it, especially for the price that it is :)

  • i use the rimmel london one & i love it! it stays on all day so if you can't be bothered topping up then your skin still looks perfect without feeling like you're wearing alot of make-up. mine gives me a little tan too without making me look weird. i think i use 1 darker than yours & i wear fake tan too :-) , x

  • I went to Chanel yesterday and I watched this girl who wanted to buy liquid foundation. And the sales girl took her hand and the tester, rubbed a bit on the hand and said "oh yeah I think that would be quite nice" Then she took the bottle and held it to the girls face and said "oh yeah yeah definitely you should take that"

mmpfs so much about spending good money on a great foundation to get a perfect match...

  • I agree with you. I try to stay away from drug store foundations because it is more of a hassle than it is to go to a counter and get properly matched. Love your videos. xoxo

  • n you please consider doing a review of some of your and Sam's favorite high-end/department store foundations? Like maybe your top 5 favorite ones that also photograph well. Thanks!!

  • hahahah you guys kill me. "oh god it's still coming out of the bottle." Thanks! very educational

  • the last foundation that your tried does it set quick?

  • it would be awesome for you to do a follow up review on each and tell us how you liked them after wearing them for 6-8 hours.

  • im definatly gonna give the bourjois one a try looks cool

  • This was such a fantastic video...not only was it fun but it really was educational. I will have to give the bourjois one a go and see what it looks like. This is fantastic because I own more expensive foundations but for everyday I like to use more budget friendly foundations so now I know what to try. Thank you so much!

  • would you be able to do a video like this for concealer? becuz i havent got a clue about which one to use, i have quite oily skin =/

  • awh this has really helped, thank you! have you ever tried anything by Bare Minerals? If so, do you think it's worth a buy? x

  • Haha don't worry, I'm French and I can tell you that you don't pronounce "Bourjois" that bad, anyway this really was useful, you should definitly do that for other products: brushes, palettes, etc...

Anyway you two are great, thanks to you I can finally manage not to look like a Picasso, I do worship you haha.

  • Hi! I had asked this questions before but I know you guys are so busy that it's impossible to answer all of our questions. I added N1 N5 N7 Mac Face & BOdy to m y kit. Do you recommend I add any additional colors? They were out of the C's when I was at the store. Please help. P.S. I live in Miami if that helps any.

  • Wow are your cheeks naturally that red? you look beautiful!! IF it is natural u r very lucky. It looks great on you

  • I've got the bourjois but I thought it was crap, especially the brush that came with it. I think rimmel foundations are great for the money, I quite like recover foundation.

    Great video as usual, cheers!

  • What about powder mineral foundations? the advantage is that u could the same product as a concealer ...like Bare Escentuals... do ya'll like them or recommend them?

Also would u recommend a specific brand of liquid foundation for dry sensitive skin?

  • What to do if the skin has scars from acne? Tell some secrets, please

  • What would be your favorite foundation, the ones you normally use?

  • i always have the same problem with drugstore foundations... cant find the right colour!!!! x

  • The best 'drugstore' foundation for an oily skin I have found is Maybelline dream matte mousse... it's fantastic.

  • I love the covergirl trueblend it's really nice and it's only 8$

  • Awsome :D

  • there is no Bourjois in italy so I think I'll go for Rimmel and will get the london look even if I am near Milan :)

  • In Italy we have Bourjois, darling!

You can buy this brand in Upim and Coin!

  • Should we wash our face after we use the wipes?

  • I have that same Revlon one and do tend to squirt a couple different shades to make the right one :-) I very much dislike the look of the max factor, it definitely makes you look greyish. The Rimmel looks rather nice as well. Cool video!

  • This was really helpful but I'd still buy a more expensive foundation purely because they stay put for longer and have a better coverage. I bought the rimmel consealer and it made my skin dry out really badly, I wouldn't recommend it:)

  • the best cheap foundations ( and ive tried them all .. trust me ) are:: Revlon Colour Stay and Maybelline Dream Satin Liquid

  • hi nicola!

you and sam are amazing make up artist and i learn a lot, my skin is very pale and i want to ask you for a foundation that "works" ok with pale skins. i don´t need coverage cause i don´t have scarfs or blemises...

nothing really, i´m very thankful i usually only wear blush and a concealer but maybe a foundation for special moemnts would be great.

thank you and continue making those fantastic videos!

best wishes and sorry( i try my best with my english ;P )

  • Try mac face and body they also do a white one you can mix with most foundations to make the lighter x

  • I like how the Rimmel looks as well...

  • thank you! ^^

  • What is your experience/viewpoint w/ mineral foundations?

  • Well all foundations are mineral based or contain minerals but i dont like ones that say that it is all mineral as i think they dont last well on the skin and reflect so much light x

  • I have used the revlon custome creations and liked it at first, but then it went bad so quickly. I ended up not using a lot of it, and it is so light it doesn't even even out your tone. The main problem for me that even if you soak the skin with moisture, it shows up flaking of the skin.

  • This was a helpful video since some peeps don't have the time or money to go for the department store brands. That being said - this video may convince me to get to do just that! Get that chanel lumiere you ladies always use! :)

  • when I was using the drugstore brand foundation I found ALL of them becoming darker after 2/3 hours. And that would be ok if it was just a little bit. But they darkened a shade or even too. And I have really really light skin, so I looked grotesque in them ;p Also I was picking the lightest shade they had and it still was too dark. I switched to Estee Lauder double wear. and I'm NEVER gonna change it, it's perfect. My skin look flawless, the foundation holds all day and the shade is PERFECT.

  • Nicole, this one was amazing as others :-) Much more info. Thanks! Btw I prefered going to Boots cos of Boots card benefit. Anyway, I miss all drugstores in London!

  • I LOVE YOU! and i love your accent!

  • thanks for the vid was v.helpful. But I am sticking to high end lol.. I have been using a foundation from MAC but I want to try something different..

I have oily/dry skin and want a full matt coverage which foundation would you recomend? xxxx :)

  • do another one for oily skin plz

  • Great video! Thanks for showing what I usually miss in the stores.

I guess Revlon suits your skin most. From my point of view, you looked like wearing a mask with the Rimmel Ivory foundation. Maybe it was caused by the light?

  • thank you so much for doing this vid!!

  • Love love love!!!!! Please do more Videos like this!!!

  • bourjous products somehow suprises me thou... particularly love their blushes and eyeshadows.. they comes in great colors ; ) but their mascaras...well it jus makes my lashes 'drop' even after i hv cliped them high up :/.. thank you Nic for such a detail descriptions of the foundations : )

  • This was a great help. I hope while at the chemist you got Sam some asprin, LOL!!

Hope you do your next drugstore foundation tutorial for us oily skin girls.

    Thanks LOADS!!

  • I actually really like the Loreal True Blend foundations...they literally have 30 different colors. But I like the bourjois foundation you tried. Im gonna try to see if they sell that here in the States.

  • thank you for making such informative videos, keep up the great work!

  • Can you recommend a foundation for oily skin??

  • Thanks for sharing this great vid.

  • bourjois looks amazinnn....great vid Nic! :) xo

  • what type of self tan does she use, does anyone know? It looks great!

  • Hi :) i use Bourjois and i love it! A really good foundation.

  • Interesting comparison and review. I've stopped going to my local drugstore to buy products apart from Barry M glitters/dusts. I went today to try and buy some different shades of blushers to try and gave up. Not a big range and very little change in colour tone.

  • Great video! Very informative! I have always hated buying foundation from drugstores because I can never get the color right. Same for concealer. Bourjois is the one exception for me because they usually do have plenty of testers.

  • Personally, I can't be bothered with going to Superdrug/Boots for foundation. It's too much hassle as there's so little help. I know I could probably get a good dupe for my Chanel but I know what formulations and colours work for me there. Plus, I'm pretty good friends with the girl on the counter and I get loads of testers :) xXx

  • i dont think theres bourjois in American drugstores. i'v never seen them before

  • they sell bourjois in the drugstore over there?! lol they only have it in sephora here :[

  • I like that you pointed out the flaws in some of them, but didn't sound snobby about it. Made me really consider if i should finally bite the bullet and upgrade to chanel :P

  • i use that maybelline super stay makeup, it works really good.

  • hmmmm maybe ill try that rimmel foundation. I do love rimmel products. And my loreal true match foundation (that ive been loyal to since it came out) is just soo expensive for me.

  • go for, it get yourself the london look...x

  • Hi Pixiwoo can you please tell us again the name of the brush that you used to apply the foundation. Thank you P.S. I love your tutorials

  • it was ILLAMASQUA

  • I was just in Shoppers Drug Mart (Canadian version of SuperDrug) and I was soo excited because they have Bourjois makeup now! I could never get that brand here. They have like the whole collection now. I saw that foundation there. I bought a bright bright purple eyeliner though. I can't wait to try it because the1 i have now doesnt show up at all on my waterline. Soo annoying!

  • thankyew

  • This was such fun!!! Thanks for doing this vid. You are adorable. xoxo

  • mac was not made for sensitive skin......

  • so true..

  • i also have rimmel, which was good but gave me spots!!

  • ive tried max factor tester..the foundation was lovely..but too dark for me and over preiced

  • Would they have bourjois in America?

  • they sell it in sephora

  • yeah at Ulta

  • Yes they do, but its not a drugstore brand here, it would actually be sold with the higher end make up brand's like smashbox, nars. Sephora carries it.

  • Sephora carries Bourjois at selected locations I think.

  • geez that custom creations by revlon is crap...note, i havent seen it on u yet, but colourstay is the best!!! and maybelline's superfit 24 hr is worth a try too!!!

  • Really interesting review, thanks. I tend to shy away from drugstore foundations as my skin is so oily and uneven, but it's nice to know that bourjois do a kinda-matt one! Would be interested to know what the longevity is like though :)

  • Do you think you could tell us which of your and your sisters most used high end brands and fornulations these resemble the most? In appearance, application and wear? That would be really interesting and useful too, I think.

  • Can you please do a britney spears tutotrial!!!

  • This was such a good idea for a video. Thanks.

  • Revlon-£13.99

    Rimmel-£7.99

    Max-the-Factor-£13.99

According to the site, Bourjois has been discontinued-they only seem to have the 10 hr sleep one which has similar packaging...

  • this was so useful.

and i couldnt find the boujois at a drugstore.

and the color creations worked great for me.

    thank you
