Pintura did this on her own. Many years ago I had another mare whose newborn filly wanted to tear around all over within an hour or two after her birth. So that poor tired mom had to run circles around her filly for over an hour until the filly quieted down, drank a bunch of milk, and went to sleep. So I'm guessing that most any mare might circle her foal if it wants to run of and get into trouble.
Good mom!! I have seen this behavior with a mare I owned when she was corraling him away from other mares...kind of cute. I bet this lil one is going to test her more than a few times... He's gonna be a real character!!
Actually, what she seems to be doing is keeping the foal from the horses on the other side of the gate. She is also giving pretty clear "Back off and leave us alone" signals to the camera person.
@enfys11 I agree with you 100%, what seems to be stressing her and making her want to protect the foal is both the presence of the horse at that gate behind and the people at and probably behind that camera.
wtf

Why does she want him to stand still?

Good question! She just had a new colt, born May 23, and she's teaching him to stand still, too.
