The actors/actresses don't suck. They're supposed to act that way to make it more relatable. Like real life. In case you didn't know Hollywood movies are more far fetched than real life. It's an artistic movie. Gus Van Sant is a very artistic director, like with the movie elephant. @MrJay697 Do you know what indie even means? It's not a genre. It means independent. As in, the director is independent. He's not paid a shit load of money. So, it's not a box office movie. Indie movies usually have low budgets.THAT'S what indie means. It doesn't mean the actors have to suck asshole. Most of the "indie" movies I've seen have amazing performances by great actors...And not all indie movies are works of art. You should do your research before you make stupid generalizations.

i think that there might be something intentional about the bad acting that is for the message of the film. after all, the movie is about someone who has trouble expressing what he actually feels. the bad acting is just like how the camera will intentionally go out of focus, or have too much exposure.
