The people that ran L.I.T.M. seemed nice, but they way over extended themselves, and basically became an expensive middle man business, offering few if any instruments on demand, and charging on average of 40% more than the makers of the instruments did. I think they could have survived as trinket salesmen, but as a viable instrument sales business, they really did not suffice.
1) The Hot Fountain Pen was an entirely different instrument from the Goofus. The Goofus is somewhat similar to the melodica, a pipe attached to a series of tuned reeds, a sort of button-operated harmonica.
2) I have made an instrument similar to this one with a full 2-octave range. Why is your range so small?
interesting video, however I think the recorder sounds better. I looked at the other pocket type clarinet videos on youtube and have come to the conclusion that it doesent really work. The recorder has a very clean sound and the clarinet in the lower tone has the appeal that it is very resonant. I dont think the two formats can be combined. There was a reason why they developed the clarinet to what it is now.
4 Octaves on a standard orchestral clarinet isn't all that difficult if you know what the hell you are doing.
As well, this instrument is quite sad. Very "blah" flat sounding and irritating to say the least. Calling it a pocket clarinet is like calling a grandam an affordable cadillac.
The xaphoon, which really should be called a pocket clarinet, has a unique fingering system and uses a larger tenor sax reed; also differences in the details of the built-in xaphoon mouthpice.
aka a REED-corder

Clarinets are small enough, I would know, I play one.
Also, I have a recorder, so... Meh...

Ouch!!! I am not even usually picky on intonation, but intonation isn't the only problem with it.

I was holding my tuner to the speaker as he was playing the "pocket clarinet". My tuner had a seizure.
