  • The Best DVD set for Beginners.

  • It is amazing what a human being is capable, when demonstrating perfection on full combat. Soon you will be able to download your videos on youbjj dot com

  • @uchideshi Man, roy dean is the man, I wish our gym can do more of this rather than rolling all the time

  • thnx this vid really helped alot need to go over all of these again and i really like the music

  • a blue belt is available to use submissions to the legs an its parts? sorry for my bad english

  • @rene3x a blue belt in most tournaments can only do straint ankle locks and they can not reap the knee or twist it in any way, ex. the leg passing over the hip on a leg lock.

  • OMG! that was the blue belt, imagine the black belt

  • i want to train from you master but i live far away

  • very good video, done at half speed you can really see the beauty and lethality and science that is Jiu-jitsu! ...oossss

  • nice vid I just recieved my blue belt on last monday :)

  • nice test but seems to be more competition oriented more than it is self defense

  • @i32504

Tiny Blue belts in Brazil are known to fight off all the roided out bullies on the beach in defense. A blue can not only defend enough to get away from a situation unharmed, but can do it without hurting the other person.

  • nest time i get mounted, im going to try to excape like he did at 2:03

  • awesome!!

  • I have so much respect for these guys. I started studying BJJ a few years ago but had to stop due to health problems. Now that am healthy I've started building my fitness back up and may look to start training in BJJ again later this year. Want to get fit first.

  • awesome

  • 1:45 is so smooth thats my fav pass by far!!

  • Really nice video , i really liked it because i believe that you emphasize more on your technique than on your strength and thats what bjj is all about. . . . By the way , is that Morihei Uesiba in the backround ? (I think I spelled wrong the name , sorry for that ).

  • Aikido

  • leg locks aren't really for blue belts..

  • Man this guy flows like water!

  • very nice, clean techniques...I have earned my purple belt in Brazil and i mostly got it trough fights and competitions

  • sr. ROY es usted la verga voladora!

  • 0:37 VERY NICE!! :D

  • the guy on top can get back on to the mount at 0:32. =D

  • i think my favirote moves are the chokes, and the arm locks

  • i learned these moves in like 3.5 months

  • @yevgeniy151 i think for blue, we need to have perfected these moves and be able to remember them in a fight/high stress situation, there is no point knowing hundreds of moves and you forget them all under the pressure of a fight. (just a guess lol, i would love to be wrong)

  • smooth

  • Just started BBJ and this whole MMA game im 15 and plan to take MMA to the limit of what i can handle.....now... lets begin

  • no wonder im still a white belt...... i never could have learned all that in 2 months.

    i wrote a rap to the song . . . i call it . . . "blue belt

  • That is some seriously smooth technique. One of my instructors says: "Advanced BJJ is mastery of the basics". If I had money to spare I would consider Roy's DVD's for sure.

  • Im a brown belt in judo. ive just started mixing in bjj for my mma game.

  • Why do BJJ people have different colored gi's? is it like the trainer is blue and the student is white or?

  • @rammsund

I was told (just starting) that all wear blue who start, after they advance to the blue belt they can wear what they choose, which commonly is white, or black.

  • @rammsund typically you will see blue or white gi's. this is for cometition as one fighter is labeled blue corner and the other is white (this is a throwback from the old judo tounaments) (many old school judo players actually had reversible blue/white gis for tournaments...) nowadays its a matter of preference. blue/white/red/camo/pink its up to the individual or that persons specific gym as to what color your gi is.

  • roy dean is so smooth its disgusting. saw him in santa cruz at last years us open.

  • cant wait to get my blue belt looks crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I'd forget all of them moves :|

  • AWESOME VID

  • Wow, some techniques shown here for blue belt made me feel way behind it.

  • I got this DVD not too long ago. It's pretty helpful Highly recommend it

  • i like your vids. im goign for my blue in next 3 months. i beleive im ready for it and will be practicing a lot of the moves from this vid.. thanks a lot .

  • Thats a nice ass dojo

  • how long roughly does it take to get a blue belt in bjj??

  • @mattieire : 6months-1year, pending on how much your practice and keep a steady routine with classes, be dedicated to it.

  • @XWRadioGS are you kidding me? At my academy the fastest guy to get to blue belt (who had no prior grappling experience) was about 14 months, and that's freaky. IMHO if your academy is giving them out after 6 months you might find other blue belts from different schools very difficult to roll with.

  • @benowa4215 Im with you. Takes about 18 months here on average. And that is for the ones that go 5 days a week. Others, well you know how it goes. It is one of the aspects I love about the art. In my school there are no test for the belts. They are awarded without warning by an instructor. Its a Gracie school, thus the tradition. And all upper belts at the class still get to give the new blue belt a smack on the backside with there belt....

  • @krichards816 Yep my school is Axis Australia run by Jason Roebig and it's the same idea here; belts/tips are awarded whenever he feels you deserve it. We also get to whip the new blue belts, even the white belts get to do it too!

  • @benowa4215 completely agree usually a blue belt has a solid year and a half to two years under there belt. if they are handing them out at 6 months they prolly give out black belts after 3 years. that my friend is what we call a mcdojo

  • you need to be 16

  • now that's BJJ; super smooth, i love it

  • what is the name of this song

  • I also picked up a copy off of Amazon marketplace

and viewed both DVDs.Good explanations and

views from different angles.I don't know Roy ,but

will say that he appears to be very centered and a

humble human being. Can't wait to see all the

    belt levels! Blue,Purple,Brown,and Black! Cheers!

  • love itvery fluid good techniques

    what song is this lol

  • I love your system of exam and your technics!

What school is this?and who is the headmaster?

  • Interesting mount escape @ like 2:00

  • @live2fightfight2live

Fairly basic mount escape, we drill it all the time at my school.

  • Just ordered the dvd set to help my training, can't wait!

  • How much do those mats cost? What are they called?

  • @TheSenseofTouch

    Tatami Mats.

Used in traditional japanese dojo most of hte time.

  • How long does it take you to learn this befor you can be tested?

  • maybe 2 years but depends on school

In traditional(Japanese) JJ, prolly 1 year

  • for a blue belt?

  • in theory about 1.5 yrs if you go to every lesson but most probably closer to 2 yrs

  • The takedown at 2:11 is a drop Ouchi Gari.

  • This is definately for your blue belt, im testing for mine shortly

  • is this the requirements to got from white to blue or from blue to purple?

  • depends where you take it.

  • white to blue

  • Most likely white to blue

  • Man this guy is very smooth and fluid and he always ends up in good postion.

  • whats the takedown at 2:11 called?

  • O-uchi-gari with a knee down i think

  • I can't wait to learn all that. :0

  • perfect...nice but different background..usually you would not find it in BJJ schools since its not Brazilian but traditional Japanese jj.

  • Smoooooooooth......

    Agree, 2:08 is sweet!

  • dood thats a high crotch switch i dont mean to be a kill joy but its acctualy realy easy

  • badass music

  • wow that mat setup is awesome.

  • awesome

  • Is the playlist on here the whole DVD or is it just parts of it?

  • hey this guy is real good. very fluid and transition is excellent. thanks for the post sensei.. wicked background you have the original founders of jiu jitsu.

  • love those moves at 2:08

  • very nice i am going to try and go for a blue belt grading at the end or start of next year love to get one

  • TRAIN THE BASICS TRAIN THE BASICS TRAIN THE BASICS..and after that.. KEEP GOING TRAIN THE BASICS!!!

this is the mantra for learning a real bjj good for grappling fights..

  • @talos1510 100% bang on. Its not 100 things you do okay at. Its the 10 things things you do great at. BJJ is the one MA that will ensure you go home in one peice. The others sadly look great, make wonderful movies, but are worthless on the street.

  • @talos1510

    Soooo true

I have done no-gi for the past 2 years

and went to a gi class and was drilling the basics

    nothing but basics

and i have gotten so much better in the past while

really makes you appreciate the art.

  • @talos1510 grammar

  • I purchased The "Blue Belt Requirements" DVDs a while back. I have enjoyed them very much. The production quality is very professional. Mr. Deans clarity and attention to detail is second to none. I'm currently using the set as a "syllubus" for a group exploring BJJ. I find his approach and presentaion refreshing and inspireing. The material may not be appreciated by a Fifteen year old would be cage fighter but if you are a sensible, intellgent person you cannot go wrong with this

  • thanks for your response.

  • look for roy harris as well he is who mr. Dean learned from and who taught him how to pass on the knowldge

  • Nice video AND legit.

Google Dr Rey Blue Belt test. It will break your heart if you love BJJ like I do.

  • agreed.. The doc makes me sick to my stomach.. This is the real deal blue right here..

  • I agree very nice presentation. Does anyone actually own the dvd set and would you recommend it?

  • i love that video

    perfect technique

and the perfect music to underline it and give it a special feeling

could you say which music, cd, or soundtrack it is take from?

  • really liked the throw to takedown around 2:15

  • awesome transition at 0:58

  • I discovered these vids a week ago and I could just watch them over and over. What great instruction for a noob like me. Thanks for sharing.

  • excellent technique

  • great vid, 2mn42 is smooth...

  • Absolutely Liquid!

  • Very very nice flow.Jiu jitsu as it should be.

  • Very nice presentation.

  • Those where very smooth throws!

  • Hi Roy!

    Thanks!

    Franco from Manila

  • love your movements. great vids

  • SICK!

  • Very nice Roy!! I had today JKD and BJJ training. I need to bring more new for me techniques from You! they are great and fluent like water! 5/5

  • thats so cool Roy
