  • @StudebakerHawk57 She was getting"out of the way"of the microphone.Get it?

  • PP and M were overcome by the late 60s tsunami of rock and other talented singer song writers - they were 'square' in the late 60s - loved by the older hippies.

Still the song was and is fun and they were talented for sure ...

  • Mary was really pretty back then

  • cant stop smiling watching mary in this vid....i bet she was DARN tired after each show from dancin around so much

  • I liked the radio cut of this song. it was higher quality.

  • This video was just added to a music playlist at JustPlay.fm

  • God - I love Mary

  • Sie tanzt wie ein Baum im starken Sturm, furchtbar.

  • I love Mary in this one, just groovin'. And yes my new favorite song by Peter, Paul and Mary.

  • One of their all-time greatest songs but what the heck is Mary doing to that microphone (at 0:49)???...

  • @StudebakerHawk57 She's demonstrating the lyrics "get in the way."

  • My favorite song by them. Under rated.

    Thank you for posting.

    Really good video.

  • ppm at their best, pop and folk, flawlessly. a plus: this is original, no cover.

  • Mary looks like she's pecking for corn.

  • Mary is "pure" 60"s! The printed dress, the straight blond hair, the 60's dance moves, she's SO groovy man groovy.

  • i tell you the best part about this whole thing is watching mary rock out to her performances..... it is absolutely epic. mary brought so much joy to the concerts.

  • Sounds like they're mocking The Beatles' 'Ticket To Ride' doesn't it?

  • Well I think this is one of the more entertaining songs of all time. I love Mary's dancing by the way. She make you feel free just by looking at her.

  • I think "Puff" may have made an appearance before they went on stage.....dig?

  • Mary did really knew how to dance!

  • Mary has ants in her panties.

  • I HAVE OTHER VERSION, THIS IS SUPERIOR. 5* THANK FOR THIS GIFT. HI FROM MONTERREY MEXICO

  • I always love watching Mary dance. It makes ya just wanna smile...EVERYTIME. = )

  • A used car salesman, a drunk and a stoned blonde, Glad to see rock honoured by these dweebs

  • @perthboy100 I KNOW!!!

  • Mary´s voice is so strong she barely needs to get near the mic!! Love her style and their tunes...RIP beautiful and musical Mary

  • Gotta love Mary. I know I did! What a great group they were. So sad it's over.

  • Mary dancn like a rubber snake........so cool RIP Mary

  • Mary's doing the "Elaine" dance.

  • Look what pot did for them LOL!!!

  • Musicality of the group was just out of the world. The major chord harmony Mary make at 0:58 melts me every time. I was a big fan of PP&M at age 18, and still am at age 64. Thanks for posting this lovely clip.

  • @onemorecast4ever you have great taste I've been a fan since age eight and still have old 45's of PP&M and I'm 54

  • WOW this is awesome, by far the best ppm video on YT ! ( in my opinion)

  • You can get this mp3 at instantmp3s..com

  • god damn Mary was a hot piece of ass

  • @schwoogie78 exactly what i was gonna post hah

  • they rock!!! :D

  • So cool to watch Mary doing her acid-trip dancing!

  • The studio version is a lot better, the instrumentation in the Donovan/Beatles verse is hilarious.

  • @whotookaegir after the beatles verse there is a bit that sounds like something out of Strawberry Fields Forever. I'm a beatle guy but i found it amusing. Even if it was satirical it was done in a light hearted way.

  • I get a kick out of Mary's go-go like dancing moves. RIP Mary.

  • "lay it between the lines"?!? Please. They may as well have titled this song "We Really Despise Groups That Make Money Than Us Singing Rock and Roll Music"!

  • i wonder if there's a better example of a group of singers enjoying themselves? i truly can't think of any. the harmonies here are out of this world and pp&m look terrific. i've always had a soft spot for folk songs, and it's even better if it's folk/rock and the best exponents of it are this brilliantly talented trio. they had five decades of giving us musical pleasure. rip mary travers,i'm not alone when i say you are very sadly missed. god bless.

  • Love this

  • This was a blast! Timeless stuff, man. What beautiful harmonizing.

  • This was a really fine peace of art performed in an even more artistic way. Like The mamas ande the papas, my words get in the way ;o)

A pleasure to watch and listen...

  • @TeamHeavySuck ...the middle lyrics are:

I dig Donovan in a dream-like, tripped out way

His crystal images tell you 'bout a brighter day

And when the Beatles tell you

They've got a word "love" to sell you

They mean exactly what they say

  • It doesn't come through as well on a live version like this, but on the original studio recording, their Mamas & Papas imitation was flawless. I've talked to many people over the years who thought the Mamas & Papas were the ones that did this song.

  • @kittyprydekissme For years, I thought the mamas and papas actually DID do this song.. lol

  • 乗りのり^^愉快

  • needs drums

  • Great song. Mary owns it when they do it live.

  • I Love this video, and I Love the fact that they had a ball with this song! It's great to see Mary dance around and act so carefree! Who cares what the critics say about what this song did or didn't say, they were having fun, it truely shows in the video. In the time when folk was being pushed aside by other types of music, the message had probaby been "Blowing In The WInd" somewhere anyway. Long Live Peter Paul And Mary!!!!

  • @musicismyLife1976 I was thinking the same exact thing watching this

  • I think this song was one that makes most hardcore fans of Peter, Paul, and Mary cringe a little, but time has caused me to make my peace with this hit single. I never saw it as a "satire" of rock music, but as hommages to three artists that they befriended and respected (Beatles, Donovan, and Mamas & Papas). I still can't say truly whether or not my love Mary Travers was a great singer or not, but she just poured herself into every song she ever sang, and she sure was easy on the eyes!

  • I think Mary was great, but I cannot bear this song.

  • RIP, Mary...

    That's it?

Highly unfortunate. This song, this group. Wow.

  • One reason MIGHT be that the user who uploaded this didn't put Peter Paul & Mary in the description, as tags. I searched for this song (with artist name included), and this didn't come up. He might've done that to try to avoid the sensors that will flag it as copyrighted, especially if they've deleted other clips he put up (doesn't always work, though).

  • @AdNoctum007 - There's another clip of PP&M singing this song on YouTube that has over 150 thousand views.

    watch?v=vMj2WqwehU4

It's only a small clip, but it's in colour, maybe that's why the view count is higher. Beats me.

  • ppm is real talent...real treasure, w/ raw technology on those times, less audio-video effects, ,. dey only had their natural gift of voices,,pure, innate wonders..just the best of all times..ppm is real legend..

  • I like when you see them start laughing in the middle of the song. It seems more personal and not rehearsed. It's kind of a glympse into their souls.

  • @hrdknox2000 Well said!

  • @walkertonkidd Thanks!

  • 1:32-if you're not gonna clap on the 2 and 4 don't clap at all

  • @neilcandelora Ya, dont get into it if you have no sense of time! Lol!

  • Sorry proken58, the lyrics "lay it between the line" does not refer to coke use, it refers to having to write song lyrics in somewhat hidden messages so the confining restrictions of the FCC back then wouldn't "catch on", which was probably unnecessary, after all most of them were bureaucratic stiffs who didn't know what lyrics meant.

  • Often times company execs and agents had "dirt" on the radio biz which often lent itself to useful bribery or extortion to get airplay from uncooperative stations or air personalities. Oh yes, I used to be a DJ!! I've met Paul Stookey, of Peter, Paul & Mary notoriety, I've asked him all the questions about their songs, and your reference is hardly true. Wanna know about Puff The Magic Dragon???

  • They look like they ae having a good time.

  • Grew up with these folks and this was a very big song in 1967 played the air waves ALL the time you could turn on any AM radio station and it was playing ...and Mary was really very hot just watch her do her thing on here I had a chance to see her live in Athens,Ohio at the OU campus in 1971 at the Folk Festival

    Great Group !!!!!!!!!

    RIP Mary

    Sam

    Class of 1969

  • I have loved this song since I was a little girl..Thanks so much for this video. Rest in Peace, Mary, and Bless you Peter & Paul in your sorrow, along with Mary's family

  • awesome harmonies, just their three voices sound like so many more

  • to sierra8186 you did not hear the song is i dig rock and roll music. you are probably too young to remember. in the 60,s when a song said something we loved it. rock folk country. vietnam was an awful thing.

  • nilsdrew - I was a BIT young - born in '65, but I read an article that said this song was indeed meant to polk fun at rock & roll. I grew up with 70's and 80's music, but there was certainly plenty of music from the 60's and I enjoy that as much as any. I know the history of the 60;s as well; anyway, check it out when you get the chance - they were a great group and this is an awesome tune, but I am 99% sure this was meant to "make light" of rock and / or the groups of the 60's and the lyrics.

  • k i may only be 12 but not everyone back then probably loved it when a song said something, some people probably hated it.

  • Completely awesome. What a great song. What a great group. What a terrible loss to music. RIP Mary Travers.

  • I never knew that this song is actually poking fun at rock & roll - but now it is clear that they were truly pure folk singers and did not care for rock at all! Still, great tune and well done live - and RIP Mary!

  • It's a "parody." Look it up. They had nothing but respect for all musicians. Their style was different, but they could play anything. Sheesh.

  • I agree. PP&M could play anything. Another of their pop hits was "Leaving On a Jet Plane," which turned out to be their only No. 1 single on the Billboard pop chart.

  • RIP Mary!
