What exactly would you call "real" metal, my friend? Who ever claimed there ever was a "real" metal. Nobody even said Trivium was "real" metal, because most metalcore bands don't give a fuck.
Look, with Trivium's first album they claimed they were thrash. They weren't. They were metalcore, and still were metalcore after their second album, as well. They still claimed thrash, though, then, when The Crusade, Trivium's latest album, came out they finally claimed themselves to be rock, or even metal, basically a Metallica type band, which was what they were trying to shoot for the entire time. So metalcore isn't "real" metal, nobody ever said it was. That's why it's called metalcore!

Have you heard their new album? And have you heard Ascendancy? That's totally metalcore. Trash is Slayer, Testament, and Evile. There is a distinct difference. Plus, Trash has never really screamed any of their lyrics. They like almost shout them.
