@thegapshow I know it doesn't make sense what he's signing, he's showing how hard it is to translate songs when they don't mean much. The only audio clues there are are the song lyrics which you can read. I do know sign language and know that he isn't using proper signs but you can image what they might mean.

You shouldn't take something such as this to heart. It's not poking direct fun at deaf people or their culture, it's only a comedic perspective that both the hearing and deaf could appreciate. I'm hearing, but my girlfriend is deaf. There's alot of things about deaf culture that I never realized before I met her...but a sketch like this is something we can both laugh at. Heck..at NIU every year during deaf awareness week they host a night of "deaf karaoke" where hearing & deaf people participate
If you think about it...most people with common sense are aware that this isn't ASL or any form of genuine sign. I don't think this comedian set out in his heart to make a mockery of the deaf community. Unfortunately without the video being captioned, I think you fail to see some of the humor that this gentleman actually passes throughout this skit. my mother taught at a school for the deaf, and although i am not deaf myself, i thought this was very funny. this reminded me of Rowan Atkinson's sign language skit. i don't think either of them were trying to offend anyone. if anything, i think it makes fun of the hearing people, because most of us wouldn't know what is actual ASL and what isn't. in final, if you don't like it tagged as for the deaf, then you can refer to it as miming, because that's what this really is. so stop your griping!

English is NOT ASL. You're assuming this other person was taught English as a first language. Perhaps they were taught ASL as a primary language so "digging" at the English is ridiculous because they're two very different language and if you understood Deaf you woiuld know this. Please stop insulting. You're being ridiculous.

Unfortunately most deaf people don't really find this funny because they can't hear the music/don't know the song. However, to hearing people who know sign language and know that this is nothing like ASL, and who know the song, it seems hilarious.

I think some of you are missing the point that this doesn't have anything to do with the art. It is how it is labeled. This is not ASL, and shouldn't be labeled such, this is an interpretive dance (which IS art) and should be labeled such. Labeling it 'for the deaf' is what is angering people because it is misleading and is perpetuating these stereotypes and falsehoods about deaf culture.

You shouldn't take something such as this to heart. It's not poking direct fun at deaf people or their culture, it's only a comedic perspective that both the hearing and deaf could appreciate. I'm hearing, but my girlfriend is deaf. There's alot of things about deaf culture that I never realized before I met her...but a sketch like this is something we can both laugh at. Heck..at NIU every year during deaf awareness week they host a night of "deaf karaoke" where hearing & deaf people participate

If you think about it...most people with common sense are aware that this isn't ASL or any form of genuine sign. I don't think this comedian set out in his heart to make a mockery of the deaf community. Unfortunately without the video being captioned, I think you fail to see some of the humor that this gentleman actually passes throughout this skit. And again, I'm not biased...my girl and 90% of her friends are deaf. You just need to be light-hearted and not be offeded by something so small.

Well it's not the comedian who's assuming that deaf people can understand...it's whoever posted this video that does. Whoever's this channel's owner is, is the one who typed up the title and description to this video. So if anyone is at fault...it'd be him. And in that...I'd agree with you. He titled this video and discripted it wrong.

OMG This is so funny!!! I live near a large a school for the deaf, so,of course I have learned some ASL, BUT I am pretty sure I look JUST LIKE THIS to most deaf people I communicate with. They humor me, tho. Thanks for posting this very funny video. LMAO!!!!
