idk if you know this or not but you said a milspec buffer tube is stronger or something like that but in fact actually commercial spec buffer tubes are a little bit thicker.
For future reference, you should be more careful with installing the trigger guard. It must have been a pain in the ass having it not fit, but if those tabs break it means buying a new lower. Any new upgrades since?
@MrWeaponlord - in theory yes. less micro-movement of the sights due to the added weight. but that's generally more important when shooting longer distances anyway, with a longer barrel. heavier barrel also takes longer to heat up to the point that it starts distorting and causing inaccuracy. for the average shooter not shooting many many rounds quickly, heavy barrel on a carbine isn't necessary as I understand it.
i went with a plum crazy lower. full polymer. i was a skeptic at first. but it operates just as good as anything else, took alot of weight of the gun,has a lifetime warrenty on it and was only $120 so i give it a thumbs up. just a thought if you wanna lighten up your gun.
what kind of front sight is that, is it a PRI brand cause im looking for a .625 diameter flip up front sight gas block and can only find the pri brand
Decent video but actually in contrary to your comment, Olympic Arms IS known for the quality of their lower receiver. Maybe you already got told, just sharing that with you, most gun junkies will tell you its just hit or miss on installing parts, some fit perfect on some lowers, others not so much, its kind of random how it works out. However, you do have a good gun their, the OA is contracted out to many law enforcement agencies and by the military. Gun looks good!
@SilverFoxProds and you live in the united kingdom of dumbass people who talk funny, have bad teeth, talk shit they cant back up, suck off the hind tit of american ever since we kicked your ass over 200 years ago
@superblockster You're an idiot. In the UK, you can't have guns without a permit. How can I review a gun that I don't own? Just because I have airsoft doesn't mean I don't understand the concepts of weaponry. Ask me most questions and I can answer them.
to fix your problem you should sight in with your irons and then as magpul says "co-witness" you holo with your iron sight. Personally line up always worked fine for me but I guess co-witness works if you like sounding like an asshole
@barnettzack if you get an AR with a commercial spec tube can you change it to a military spec and if so do you recommend doing that, and my AR has a heavy barrel on it but its really light actually but I'm a big guy so i really don't notice the difference
@SuperBlockster well i didn't like the quality of the commercial tube on that gun. (olympic i think) and at the time, the magpul OD green stock in the commercial diameter was on back order. so i just bought both mil spec stock and tube. i didn't make that 100% clear in the vid. i have a 11.5 inch SBR AR 15 that has a commercial tube and stock, and i don't plan to change it...
@barnettzack ok yeah thanks for the quick response man appreciate it, the reason im asking is because i bought an AR from this guy who had just built it and shot 20 rounds through it for test firing it and then decided that he wanted to sell it to fund a custom sniper system so idk if he used commercial or military but i think when i go and pick it up ill ask the gunsmith which it is once again thanks man
You're the first AR reviewer that knows what he's talking about. I don't understand dumbasses that like carrying a 30lb AR-15 with all the worthless shit attached to it.
@YouGotJEWD LOL thanks! but i'm no youtube reviewer, & i don't know every last detail of the AR 15. just that having a 9+ pound carbine defeats to definition of the word. i have a 11.5 inch SBR AR 15 still waiting on the paperwork... but it weighs in at 5.5 pounds!!! i was looking at one of those Egyptian AK 47 good deal, but i didn't move on it fast enough. thanks 4 watching.
I am on the fence with the upper handle.... I notice in the vids you shoot with your hand on the mag well, I can see myself doing the same if I add a handle. Just seems awkward.
@darbycrash55 One of the methods that we have been teaching in the military is to mount your down grip as close to the mag well as you can and to use it as a stop instead of a grip. Place your hand in the corner where the grip meets the rail. You may find this method more comfortable as it's at a more natural angle. I think Magpul sells an angled grip, but if you already have one mounted then this will help you. I only ever used the down grip for bayonet thrusts.
@reeseman67 the mil-spec are stronger because they are designed to handle the trauma caused by the buffer during full-auto firing, plus they're lighter, which is what he wanted. And he said that he bought a commercial magpul stock accidentally, so he had to return it.
@Hardcoreharry2 Magpul is a very reliable company, They're Pmags, and MOE accessories are well priced and a favorite among civilians/law enforement and even some seasoned operators
@HardcoreHarry2 Magpul is the leading competitor is everything it sells. In my opinion their products are the best. but very expensive for their premium versions. the MOE line of products is on the cheaper end like the moe stock he has there retails at 50 bucks from magppul but the upgrade to it is the CTR stock which has a friction lock that clamps the buffer tube and eliminates that annoying stock rattle which also throws off your accuracy when moving.
If you're comfortable holding on the front of the mag well, check this out if you haven't seen it before, google: AR-15/M16 NEVER QUIT GRIP I have one on my AR and love it.
It says you switched to a Mil-Spec buffer tube, but then said you went with a commercial..... I'm confused? And the Mil-Spec isn't any stronger, assuming theyre both the same series aluminum, the Commercial I'd think would be a bit stiffer/stronger since it's thicker aluminum....
Nice video...Just for kicks, you might want to try the Magpul AFG (Angled Foregrip). I used to use a front vertical grip on my StagArms AR15, and like you, I wasn't crazy about it. Used it a few times, and quickly got rid of it....The AFG was a nice difference for me, very natural feel, and SO MUCH LIGHTER than a front vertical grip.
That cheaper than dirt grip is heavy and sucks arse! So doers all that magpul crap! You bought a heavy barrel so you could take it home the same day? Throw all that shit out because it is all worthless, keep the L3 eotech though :)
@barnettzack do you have any vids of cleaning your ar15 lol i just bought one and im scared to clean it but i really need to learn how. i havnt shot it yet im not going to in like 4 months.
I don't know what your talking about when you say changing a barrel and putting in a new gas block front sight is easy that should only be done by a gunsmith. And then putting that milspec buffer tube in you need a gunsmith to lock the castle nut in. I like the change you did on your AR it made the gun look better and perform better. And I bet holding the riffle up in shooting postion for a while is easier with that lighter barrel. Happy shooting later
@TheFiddlyfoo i didn't say changing the barrel/gas block should ONLY be done by a gunsmith i didn't want to buy the ar 15 wrench and upper vice block for a swap i only needed to do just once. i'm all about doing it yourself, but this time i choose to hire an expert. thanks for watching.
@TheFiddlyfoo Can't speak to changing the gas block but you certainly don't need a gunsmith to stake the castle nut. I did it two weeks ago with a hammer and nail punch. Looks factory. It's the same thing that they do.
@tinenine1 Judging from your misspelled run-on sentence, and your modern warfare videos, I'm guessing you don't know what the hell your talking about. Or how much the AR 15 tools cost for somebody to swap over a barrel just once. Maybe you stick to your video games.
@barnettzack You will run into these kind of guys from time to time lol!!! Hey check out theArmorychannel on here he is a great guy, by the way good video!!!
@barnettzack I always let the gun shop do things to mine. They used to do it free if you bought the parts there. Made my life easier and got a guarantee. They quit doing that but my AR's done now.
Olympic Arms AR's are similar to the quality of the DPMS and Double Star. Not the best haha but it shoots, it's more accurate than the AK and you can make it look pretty tacticool!
I thought YT is allowing 15 minute videos now. I love the green/black scheme, I agree that is a good look. Did you happen to weigh the rifle before so you can see how much weight you shedded? Awesome video, very well done.
