It's impossible for those under about 35 years of age to realise what an absolutely huge occasion the Cup Final was in the '70s. Its impossible to believe now that at the time it truly rivalled the European Cup in the eyes of fans. No under 35 will believe that but people in their 40s and older will easily believe it.
@tigerarmyrule I beleive it. I remember it as a huge occasion. It was like a royal weeding every year and people were glued to their tv sets all over the country.
@tigerarmyrule You are soooo right. The 70's were the golden age of the FA cup when modern technology meant that it was live on the telly but we weren't so overrun with live football that it took secong place to the champions league. It was still THE cup to win. Don't suppose I'll ever see my beloved Walsall win it in my lifetime :-(
Just remember SAINTS will allways be the biggest club on south coast coming from a Manchester city fan, we miss you in the premier pompey were your such an easy team to beat!! SAINT BELONG IN THE PREMIERSHIP!!
@smithmx08 Thanks but we'll be playing Man Utd in the FA Cup and I am sure we play well in premiership quality but if we lose and lose only one or two goal then I am sure Saints can do well rest of the season and get promoted into championship and probably get into Premiership within a year or two.
i was there, behind the goal, and i still reckon its the most ........i don't know what the word is, amazing, ... moment of my life, it's definitely up there. my dad's got a cine film of the boys on the open top bus on the sunday
@bertscoggins1 Not offside cos he was behind a Man Utd defender when it was kicked and he went round the defender while the ball was in the air so the linesman was right.
Who cares onside/offside? It counted!! Back then the passion of the FA cup was all that mattered and for a 2nd Div team to beat the mighty Reds, well, respect all round
This was a time when football meant something better. Without commercialism ruining home kits, and clubs becoming cold businesses importing people in to play who care nothing for the city/town they play for. I gave up on football in the mid/late 90's when it went too far that way for my liking. RE: Bobby Stokes. I went and met him at his cafe not long before he died. Really nice fella. He told me that golf trophies meant more to him than football :P bcz they are personal, not a team.
Shut up manure, half ur fans don't even come from the place, glory supporters the lot of ya, confernce supporter and proud to be oxford united, did you even no our team beat manure in alex fergunsons 1st game in charge? doubt it, you no naff
all about your past,
Well done soton on winning the cup, shame ya didnt beat arsenal in the last one!!
I was on Stokes' side of the pitch and level with the goal. When he got the ball I said to my Dad "He's offside isn't he?" at which point Dad leapt about fiteen foot in the air and I realised I'd missed the goal. So Stokes wasn't offside - because it wasn't given..... them's the rules!
Nice one mate, i'm a red but lots of my mates are blues. I think the southerners are jealous we've got all the cash. All we need now is to get some silver in City's trophy cabinet and show 'em all Mancs rule.
WE'LL KEEP THE RED FLAG FLYING HIGH, COZ MAN UTD WILL NEVER DIE!!!
Well today, the thick cheque book is allways going to win over the thin cheque book and it will get worse. Blame SKY, PEOPLE WILL RATHER BUY SKY SPORTS AND WATCH (PREMIER FOREIGN ON TV) THAN GO AND WATCH AND SUPPORT THEIR OWN LOCAL TEAMS
we beat Aston Villa we beat West Brom to, and Blackpool, we beat Bradford and Palace and Utd we BEAT you. I only missed the replay against Villa in the first round. Up the Saints ( southampton Skins )

What a pointless comment! Yes they have. But only because of WW2, So I assume your hoping on a fascist, mass murdering regime to come and help you out again?!
because he isnt infront or level with the united defence in the last camera still before he runs onto the ball. he must have been offside as he recieves the ball from over the top of the defenders. impossible for him not to be
he ddefinately looks offside to me too, but just cos the ball is sent over the top of defence, doesnt mean that its impossible not to be offside? i reckon he probably was looking at that but he easily could have been on cos the camera moves quite slow
I was there watching my uncle Martin Buchan, and the year after too against Liverpool. I remember 30,000 United fans all screaming for offside whe Stokes got played in. He was dead level, right in front of me-which in those days was offside. Never mind,Saints probably deserved the win overall, and we beat the Scousers the year after.

offside . graham poll said so on 5 live . . mr poll is correct

NOT offside when the ball was played to him, which is the key point - the TV shows Stokes a split second after that as he accelerates away...

Just got a few points to make:
1) Better support my arse.
2) Seriously, couldn't give a flying shit about Man Utd. "Big club" overrun by glory supporting pikeys.
3) No. We were sent to the championship due to the culmination of a very poor season.
4) 6-3 lol
5) Grey shirts lol
6) Matt Le Tisser making Schmeichel look shit -- lol
7) Matt le Tissier making Taibi look ever shitter -- lol
Finally 8) Come back when you support a proper football team, and your opinion will be more valid.
