  • it is the job of the artist to study and to observe and only to paint that which he knows, this painting is a reflection of a very skilled painter who is not an artist because he paints that which he does not know, 9/11 was the symptom of a much larger hijacking of our government from within, it was an inside job, anyone foolish enough not to investigate the claims of the administration and follow the evidence to whatever end doesn't have any business telling others what to think.

  • Song?

  • i artista peruano :D is beautifull the picture painting in cute :d i love the drawf

  • Finally, some real painting going on. I agree about the conceptual art excuse. Narcissistic artists are lazy and lack commitment to their craft. This type of art offers something beyond the artist and has an altruistic purpose. It isn't selfish. This painting is fantastic. Kudos to Mr. Parrish.

  • I will ignore all of the debating, but i must comment on this beautiful, emotion and just all around amazing painting I love it! I can see the pain and tragedy brought upon these people, the emotion in this is what i strive to create in my own art. There is enough detail to keep my interest even longer past the emotion of their bodies. My favorite part: man that's fallen looking at the girl who's red blind fold is falling off & in the background the statue of Liberty burning past the haze.

  • Hey people, people...who mock this other man's creation..if this doesnt satisfy your taste, or say this fell short to your intellectual analysis, remember what ART is..!!! or do you know what ART is?

  • I DON'T LIKE IT. The symbolism is too obvious, the twins, the black dude already on the ground, torn-up constitution, what appears to be lady liberty in handcuffs ( holding a candle and is blindfolded), the planes (too big to be toys too small to be actual planes). Also the identical pose of the identical twins is off-putting and the fact that the both of them appear to be in pain before they suffer violence is ...Overall there is no profound message that I can take away from it. Its big though

  • even the westboro cult is preferable to islamics

  • This is absolutly brilliant and very inspirational. stunning.

  • without gift artist

  • great great work..I LOVE IT

  • Shit about terrorism and islam and 9/11a part( I think it was not different from lusitania , totokino bay or comunism terror, only another expedient for justificate ANOTHER war, only more theatral)...that is great, great art, supreme tecnique and amazing atmosphere...congratulation for that 'beautiful' work!!... I LOVE IT

  • All i can say (LOAFPORK) you talk utter shit.

  • Horrible way to express the turn of events on 911, Graydon. Beautiful work by talented man, but taking allegory to the wrong place. Planes in the hands of innocence (children)? Please! Towers (Victims) are portrayed as Muslim race males. DOUBLE PLEASE! Graydon, my opinion of you is you were faced with huge commission and through your somewhat queeny personality trying to overdue everything

  • @Jcsharitz or planes in the hands of the naive (children). Muslim men as the towers, maybe showing islam was a victim to the monstrosities as they are now looked upon more to do with this event than their innocent believers who lead normal lives.

  • @Jcsharitz To be honest, I thought the Arabic victim was the innocent civilians that were killed because of the war in the Middle East. Yes, the children could be representative of innocence, but they could also represent the unwise and those who lack understanding. There is also another victim, to the right, who is clearly a white man, so it's not saying that the only ones who suffered were the Muslims.

And "Muslim" is not a race. It's a religion. There are Muslim people from every race.

  • @Jcsharitz towers look like white guys to me... and there is no "muslim race" as to the children with the planes, didnt jesus say "father forgive them, for they know not what they do"? either way i dont really care to argue religion or politics, but simply put, in the aftermath of 9/11 a lot more innocent people died in the middle east at the hands of american millitary and mercenary groups than in the wtc attacks.

  • This painting is well-painted but rediculously over-the-top. It's almost offensive because it aestheticises an extremely traumatic event. I'm not saying that artists shouldn't express how they feel about 9/11, but they shouldn't turn what is a major global crisis into a seductive, stylized orgy of well-toned nude figures and roses. This isn't Venus of Urbino. UNLESS, its a comment on how the media also aestheticized the sublime awesomeness of the destruction caught on camera. Yes? no? maybe?

  • @nicklekakis You're an idiot, are you seriously so offended by the classical style?

  • damn i agree! excellent technique, but dunno... better a goya like style for those kinds of works.

  • @nicklekakis ah, aestheticising a tragic event is bad... I see... so you must think Gericault's "Raft of the Medusa," Picasso's "Guernica," and most of Goya's works are bad art then?

Speakin of how the media twists our opinions-- your comments of "stylized orgy of well-toned figures" and "over the top" are reflective of post-modern art criticism. It's ok when Picasso and Gericault do it, because critics have branded their names-- but let's not let anyone else do this type of work!

  • awesome

  • sucks september 11 is my b-day too!!!

  • Is the painting still there or was it for an exhibit?

  • this absolutely beautiful.

  • who's the artist? Very cool and awesome skills

  • best 9/11 art i've seen. so much time put into that. and no blad eagles

  • In this painting one can see an old man who is into children - lesbians - men who have turned homosexual because the women are into each other and children are innocently playing with planes. Black man is on the ground dying while black women is caught in the culture of white women

  • Sometimes allegory can be taken to far. What meaning or impact would this painting have without its title?

  • @yocanbanconit planes twins death and helplessness.... sounds like the morning of 911 to me... if you couldnt get this without the title, then youre just dumb. sorry, but its obvious. did it ever occur to anyone here that maybe the allegory didnt go too far, rather, you looked too far into it? its actually pretty straight forward.

  • agree..

  • Can anyone help me understand more of the imagery? Obviously the two "twins" are the towers, there are children holding the airplanes (maybe to portray confused innocence?) . . . am particularly confused about why some figures are blindfolded and others aren't, and who or what the man on the bed of roses with the empty bottle symbolizes. He's neither blindfolded nor does he look anguished.

  • I just wish you'd all learn to spell.....

  • stop hating people art you should nt be stereo type just because its content.....art!!!

  • sexy painting.

  • Whoever painted this, you make me sick. Stop cashing out from the tragedy! The painting looks terrible.

  • The painting looks terrible! Stop cashing out from the tragedy!!!

  • ignorancy! - i love it - that is an utter classic - i wish i had Lyn Truscott's email address lol. I am very impressed by the painting. It is very evocative and i haven't made up my mind yet - its going to be talked about for a long long long time. I'm very drawn and still working out my response to this piece of art.

  • I see lot's of people coming in here and commenting of how much they like this piece and it's a great piece of "art", but lot's of them don't even know what happened into the world of art since the impressionist and they cling to that socialist realism because they see what's there and they don't ask themselves any more questions , the food is in the plate and they "see it's fried potatoes and stake", please inform yourself of modern and contemporary art ideals + the subject is rubbish.

  • Most contemporary art is trash, made by people who have no skill, not patience, and no talent at all. The excuse,,, "It's conceptual.". There is still a place for tradition, and it doesn't mean that it's "socialist", you sound like the typical pseudo-intellectual "artist", bet you're still in school, most are at their peak of pretention during this phase. You'll get over it eventually, then you'll realize you have no business making art, and give up. You're rubbish, you dumb shit.

  • @loafpork Pretty much sums it up! BRAVO!

  • I still dont get it..why did d painter use childrens to symbolize the 2 plains?

  • @OrengeeEshee

Because the people on board the plains where innocent, just as innocent as child.

  • They must represent the innocents.

  • rofl calling this crap i would like you to burry you alive for your ignorancy!

    this is... a masterpiece!

  • i saw it at the New Britian Musuem of American Art, and i jus fell in love with, i did a couple college papers on it and everything ^_^

  • :[ ]

  • wtf

  • Very commercial !!!

  • Derivative? Influenced maybe. And what figurative painter can help but being influenced by Nerdrum. He was, after all, one of the first painters to rid himself of the past century. Thanks to him, painters like Parrish don't have to pay homage to the 20th century. It was the century of a lot of insane ideas, including segregation. Abstract art, Dada and Pop have become elitist as well. I hope that the next century offers more diversity.

  • Derivative? Maybe influenced. Influence is a good. And how can't a figurative artist not find Nerdrum compelling. He was one of the first to question the last century's obsession with nothingness. Now, painters like Parrish don't need to pay homage to artists that seem very much mired in 20th century discourse. Anything this ambitious deserves a pause, if only for its ability to play devil's advocate to HIrst, Koons and the modern rehash of pop and Dada.

  • i don't see the point. what is it supposed to be. A bunch of drunk people? can someone please explain?

  • @Skaterman30000 I heart your response :D. yes it's like sexy naked people getting wasted. hehe.. you can trust me i'm a licensed art teacher lol. ...

it's like pure ((white)) civilized people getting pwoned by chaos but looking really hot like greek gods and goddess at an orgy.

  • ...wondefull painting !!! congratulations !

  • Concepts are derivative of Odd Nerdrum. Still it is beautifully executed and w/ a high degree of pollish. People the painting with figures and add references to 9-11 and you got Graydon Parrish/Nerdrum making a painting about 9-11!

  • How is this even similar to Nerdrum painting about 9-11? Parrish and Nerdrum paint totally differently. Nerdrum tries to paint like Rembrandt and other Baroque artists of the 1600's, Parrish paints more like the French academic artists of the late 1800's. Nerdrum employs a lot of intense value contrast, Parrish more subtle value contrasts. Nerdrum paints dismembered transvestites, Parrish paints beautiful figures with flowers. I dont see the comparison, other than both being figurative?

  • Don't know why the concept is derivative of Nerdrum, painters have been using symbols and concepts since the dawn of time. It's apocalyptic looking because it's 9-11 and not all or even half of Nerdrums work is apocalyptic. I don't say this to defend Parrish but Nerdrum, his work is nothing like Parrish's classical bouguereau techniques and representations.

  • I don't get the picture. Can someone explain please?

  • im not sure but i think its the kids toys (plains) are about 2 hit the 2 twin guys (twin towers, WTC) an the peopleon the ground r hurt n in fear

  • Ohhh...short but but brought me to tears.

WTF are we leaving as a legacy??

    My poor babies...

    i so don't want grandchildren

  • My country is me! I have no flag , no frontierI dont accept the passport and the narrow mindness of politicians. As goes for religion iy's the opium of the poor.

  • masterpiece

  • i saw it in the new britain art gallery and ended up doing a project on it...its breathtaking

  • This is a stunning, majestic piece of art. I really wish I could go and see it in reality some day. I read that it's supposedly going to tour, but I don't know if this means only in the USA or worldwide.

  • 9-11=Inside job. You government scum who did this, your game is up my friend. People are waking up by the thousands.

  • The Goverment story of 911 is a lie. 19 Muslims with boxcutters? Oh please! That is laughable. The Neocon media particulary Fox and WABC radio are propagandizing a total lie. You Tube WTC 7 Collapse and its an obvious controlled demolition. If you look into the evidence 911 was an inside job beyond a doubt. You Tube WTC 7 Collapse now!

  • EVERYBODY WHO READS THIS LISTEN: ISLAM WAS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR 9/11. TERRORISM WAS. THESE TERRORISTS ARE NOT MUSLIMS BECAUSE THEY GO AGAINST THEIR OWN ISLAMIC ACCEPTED TRADITIONS. SO DON'T COMPARE TERRORISM WITH ISLAM. SECONDLY, MANY WARS ARE SAID TO BE RELIGIOUSLY BASED UPON BUT 99.9% OF THESE WARS ARE ACTUALLY POLITICALLY MOTIVATED. I CAN TELL YOU OF SOME WARS WHERE IT WAS FOR GOD AND CHRISTIANITY BUT WERE REALLY LIES FOR THEIR OWN POLITICAL ENDS LIKE CRUSADES, WARS AGAINST NATIVE INDIANS,etc

  • Although I am not a muslim. I agree with your opinions.

Many people calling themselves christians throughout history have also brought fear and bloodshed to many. As much as their is radical islam followers there are also radical christians.

These individuals do not speak nor represent their respected faiths correctly.

  • The big difference is there are radical Muslims today calling for and causing bloodshed and Christians who caused bloodshed are in the past.

  • @uhhh24

Bullshit. Christians are still murdering children in Africa because they're suspected of being witches.

  • @ignacio90 load of bolliks, islam is not a peacefull religeon,

  • @ignacio90 I suppose it's as responsible as Christianity is for the Crusades.

  • Islam is a Satanic Cult of Satan. Just look at Sudan and ethnic cleansing!

  • amazing

  • Does anyone know where this painting is located? I would like to see it up close. Thanks for sharing this...........

  • Great ..

  • what's with the biblical style of a modern event? am i not in the 21st century? 0__o

It is an example of craftsmanship, skill, attention to detail, and poetry in painting. Something that has been virtually lost in contemporary art. If we lose our connection to tradition and history we will continue to make bad art. Art has been completely dismantled and now it's time to build again. An awaking is about to reveal itself through a monumental explosion of mass consciousness. Not only through art.

  • This painting is about the corruption of western society it depicts homosexuals and lesbians; the innocent children cannot bear to look at this immorality. It says that those who crashed the plains into the towers were innocent children who could not bear to see the immorality of the US society. The black salves and the older generation are in agony and have fallen. Black slaves have lost their women to this immorality. At least thats what I think.

  • WTF are you smoking? There is no reference to Gays in this work? Please do not reproduce..you are a moron.

  • what is it.!!!!!!!

  • what's with the biblical style of a modern event? am i not in the 21st century? 0__o

  • what the hell was that?? I didn't get that at all! Could someone please explain???

  • love the modern theme with the classical art-

  • what the hell

  • Instead of the children in blindfolds he should have left the blindfolds out and stuck them in suits. Maybe with little american flag lappelle pins,,,ha ha.

  • Stupid remark

  • ...i don't understand what you mean by "faux attack"...

  • means: false or reproduction

  • He did. It symbolized sadness, terror, destruction, the only thing he left out was violence.

  • was this painted before 9/11? or after?

  • after

  • Loose Change!?!? LOL! Do you BELIEVE EVERYTHING that you hear and read? Loose Change had to make a sequel because even the creators of the movie admit thay there were "several" errors in the film. Popular Mechanics debunked nearly every single one of their "theories"

  • u fucking dumb liberal! you can't be serious..

  • weird...but totally cool at the same time!!

  • crapp !!

  • CRAPP??? r u for real. Let me ask you sociablyclussy what's your talent? Stupidity maybe??

  • THis is a disgust video and it doesn't make any sense whatsoever. I think the person who posted this video has either psychologically disorder or sexually frustration which is pretty sad.

  • it makes sense.but i guess u r so dumb and expect subtitles under a painting.see those 2 guys? twin towers..figure out the rest

  • Please explain this one to me. I'm just an old redneck who supports our troops, america, President Bush and anyone who does the same. I'm college educated, but just don't understand this one and can not speak intellagently about this one.

  • Can't you read this pic? It's really very clear..... You support BUSH...what's wrong with you??????

  • Very disturbed yet technically is an exceptional painting. Brilliant tones, shadow and light contrast..Very good but rather disturbing.. Thank you for this

  • FREAKYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!

  • WOW...what a truly amazing painting, I'm going to search for a poster to put up in my study!!! Puts most conceptual art in the bin where it belongs.

  • strong piece .. makes its point loud and clear!

  • thats heavy

  • I want a poster of that...

  • wow

  • nice like it

  • I love this painting. I did my art history term paper about it. And at the end of the year my class is taking a field trip to the New britain Musuem of American Art. SO yea!!!! ^_^ Nice

  • What is the music ? Wow great tune ..wish I cold hear it all.

    Love the painting too

  • This painting is a must see. I'm lucky that I live about five minutes away from the museum.

  • That is an excellent painting! He channels the Old Masters so brilliantly... It was almost shocking to see this Renaissance-style work in such modern context... Must be an excellent artist...

  • odd or not the work is brilliant. Graydon Parrish is probably the most talented living artist on this planet. Google him you will see.

  • YUCK!

  • ok that was odd. were is the painting?

  • It's held in the New Britain Museum of American Art in New Britain, CT. Founded in 1903, it was the first museum of exclusively American art in the country, and with the new renovations, it's fantastic.

  • @leversandpulleys not really, i get it but its kinda bland

  • wait i dont get it

  • Well said.
