At the trade school there are "color cards" which I think reflects on double standard. Such as white card vs. Gold card. With white card, you have to sign in everyday and cannot travel off center. With gold-card you can go to early chow and be first in pay line just because of the color card.
Of course, this is superficial and reflects on a double standard.
You are right about everything here. I have no more motivation and I ignore all my teachers. My mom tells me it's just about jumping through hoops, so she understands that school is without value and yet makes me go anyway. I don't know how it manages it, but school is both boring and stressful. I'm sleepless tonight because I know I have to go back tomorrow.
dude at my school, the teachers say that bullying is bad and is "oh so terrible" but when they call on a kid infront of a whole class, that is embarassment and humiliation. and the last time i checked those 2 things are BULLYING. moral of the story, teachers r hipocrytes.
i didnt read a book Im just an Aquarius, god doesnt care if you have a diploma. Im not religious but the universe does not care what school. Is that you are a good person and do what you want and be who you want. America is such a liar-. Be anything you wanna be they say but you MUST be how we tell you too or your out. Stupid banal school commercials on TV- i feel sorry for people who follow that stuff. waste my adult life in school? im busy living it. universal Merit gets you places, im proof
Hey im only on 0:40 and I Know exactly what your about to get into, thanks for stating what I have been fighting to be with almost everyone in my life about. Im a human not a learning machine hell bent on competition and society's benchmarks of success. And No to every stupid ass School Infomercial on TV Im success in the universes eyes already. There is NOTHING you can give me to get me somewhere quicker faster or better than my own soul. And money doesn't motivate me nor your judgement!
How Children Fail is what opened me up to all of this too. Isn't it insane to the point where it's almost funny, when you start thinking about how this kind of "game" gets played? The other night I was in a class at a university, letting my mind wander towards the end, and I starting thinking of how funny it was that here was this prof up there speaking, and 40 adult students sitting there pretending to listen when we all knew full well no one was interested. What a tragic waste of time...
Oo I detest some of the tactics teachers use on students.
I also hate the fear they use, that if you don't pass some stupid test, you'll never succeed in the "real world". What is the "real world" anyway? What ever it is, I doubt those teachers know squat about it.
Aaron -- I've always said (and I still believe) that school sucks the fun right out of learning. After graduating college, I had to re-teach myself many of the things that I "learned" there. Any learning that takes place in college is to be attributed almost entirely to the desire and determination of the student, not the college. As soon as I left that godawful place, learning became fun and meaningful again.
The tactics for making it look like you're listening is an interesting point: children are devoting creativity to *learning how to make it look like they're learning*, instead of learning about something with more content that's interesting to them.
Hi there... long time watcher, first time commenter. I'm actually a teacher in Oakland, so this was interesting to me. Your ideas are interesting: how do you propose to fix the broken school system that you mention in your video?
I have no intention of fixing it. I am an advocate of what is called Unschooling. I talk about it more in my videos later in this series. I believe any compulsory schooling is irredeemable for many reasons ... many articulated within this series. I would also suggest reading some books by the author John Holt. His ideas inspired many of mine.
You're so absolutely right. What can I say, I agree word for word with what you're saying, I can even predict what you're going to say next. (and that is definitely a good thing, being that almost nobody sees these things)
I think that the opposing side argues that school is good and that kids learn...this my friend IS true...However, the real question in hand is not whether the kids are learning or not, but rather, could the kids learn more if education systems were more like those sculpted in the video.
School is morally detestable on all realms. It ignore the emotions, and desires of children. Children are slaves that are molded by adults that have no idea what they are doing. The only way i find someone can justify schools in the atmosphere they are in now is to justify child slavery. gl with that.
whoa buddy, I am on your side did you even read the begining? I am saying what I think the other people see it as, and saying why this is wrong, your right, the kids are slaves, but they are learning. I believe that your idea is much better of course, kids are not treated as slaves, or neglected, and they have the oppurtunity to learn much much more then the other kids, and reach their potential, without having your individuality crushed, you are 100% correct on this one, I am again devils advo.
I'm going to have to agree with everyone else here that this is a great video series.
I've been reflecting a lot lately on my years in school - how little I learned, how my creativity was destroyed, and how I eventually just stopped trying - and watching your videos, as well as those of a couple other YT users, has really helped me realize how poorly I was served by the public school system.
I'm looking forward to more videos in this series, if there will be any. :)
The only case that people are able to use against homeschooling is a lack of "Socialization". If that is socialization, than I will gladly except being anti-social.

i agree with you Aaron ... honestly.
Einstein said "Education is what remains after one has forgotten what one has learned in school."
(Or atleast whatever little is left of it, i believe.)

YOU are so right about teachers trying to embarrass students just so they will listen and not ask good questions.

I want to ask you can anyone get a job without getting a degree from an oppresive college these days?

Were they teaching you the bible, or obedience to it and to biblical "authority"?
