Instead of soldering in the STK ICs directly, I want to solder in some 22 pin IC sockets, into which I can plug the STK ICs, so that in the future if I need to replace them again I can just pull them out and pop in some new ones without having to take out the board and desolder a big mess. Does anyone know if this would be a problem?
Convergence ICs go out on these triple gun sets, but have a very decent service life of about 7 years on average. Replace them and you're good to go for another 7 years or even more if the ICs are upgradeable. I have been performing this repair for over 20 years, on various big screens. Since this type of big screen can last 20 years and look dazzling with the optics properly cleaned - no dry methods! - it's much more cost effective to do that than buy new.
My sony KP-53V45 (kp-53v75 on website?) turns on w/ sound but picture flickers off and on w/o disturbing the sound. If I put it on a/v black screen its fine even if I open menu. No remotes will allow me to ajust menu options. just up and down. it wont let me select. Anyone have any idea whats wrong w/ my tv??? :D
i believe the original post advised you to throw it away . If you like videos then get a decent camcorder that does 720 and throw it over the balcony and post the video on Youtube
Your set has a convergence problem which is very common on the older projection TV sets. You can call in a TV shop and get it fixed for around 400.00 or you can goto TvRepairKits. com - They have complete convergence kits for under 70.00 which include step by step instructions and support!
i have the exact same tv as u and the same problem but i think mines a bit worse if i were to change everithing myself how much would it cost for the ICs
Replace the convergence IC's. Check supply voltagesare ok by checking the fuses in the circuit. ?The Red Vertical control has died in the IC and both will need to be replaced. I am guessing you have the STK392-560's. They cost about $30 each. Have a solder iron?
Whats weird is I have the same convergence problem but somwtimes the screen would get a little fuzzy and go back to normal for a little bit then switch back to the problem.
Sometimes if im lucky it would fuzz back to normal and stay that way for as long as I dont turn off the TV. When I turn it off and turn it back on in that case it waould be out of whack again.
Can someone trouble shoot this for me. Is it the pico fuses, IC Chips or what.
Hit Guys. I'm looking for some help with a problem with my Sony RP TV. I have a thick red transparent line across the top of the screen and a thick blue transparent line at the bottom of the screen. The rest of the picture is clear.
it turned out my convergance board had to be rebuilt, I had some rear projection repair specialists do it, it took them a month and wound up costing me $500. But I figured that was cheaper than spending a few thousand on a new flat screen tv of similar size.
Looks like the STK chips on the convergence board shit the bed. I fixed my Hitachi when it looked like that. 3 chips cost $15 each. You got ripped off.
I've gotta do the same thing to my Mitsubishi this weekend. It started looking like that last night.
