i hate to say it but thats a cummins in that Pete, why i think it is is this, if it we're a Cat, it would have a slower idle spead with a deeper idle, the reason its no a 2 stroke Detroit is it doesnt realy have that screamin demon rumble, and why i think its a Cummins, it has a faster idle speed and not that deep of a rumble, and you can hear the turbo whine as well, and if i've learned anything about listening to Cummins is, you can hear the turbo more clearly than any other diesel engine type

Not actually it is a only been built for less than a year but the guy who built it had the overhead wrong and it didn't show up until under a load. He kept trying to fix it but everytime we put it under it would miss a cut pop, we finally ran the overhaed ourselves but it must have broke a compression ring causing the smoke. Was down so long I thought i would work it and and re ring it this winter when work slows down....
