@Leishmaniasisably They're hilarious quotes from the game that made no sense to anyone. I thought some day I'd find some intrinsic deep meaning to them when I got older, but they still confuse me.
yes!!! this is my shit right here this used to get me pumped. "your goin' down robotnik! LET'S GO BABY! IT'S THE FINAL SHOWDOWN!!!" ol' skool gaming at its finest
I played this for three hours when I was eight one morning, and I was one hit away from beating the boss at the end. My parents called me down to go to church. FFFUUU-
This was definitely one of those frustrating games you just wanted to beat so bad. Conquering this stage was far more rewarding than most games nowadays. Childhood memories. <3
( i remember when i was 8 and beat this level, I beat it oddly when i had a stomach flu and i woke up at 3 or 4 in the morning and couldn't resist playing it. playing games watching the sunrise is so memorable to this game.
I still remember those days..i asked for a sonic game at christmas...i opened the package, all happy, and then...the shock::'what the hell is this fuck...spinball?!'.
It was probably the saltiest day of my childhood LOL...even more because i was anxious to run at hyper-sonic speeds with sonic and all that i could do with him in this game was...die tens of times after failing at lauching sonic at the right spot of the stage.
@InfurnusChaotix especially the first boss with that music...try playing that at night with no lights on (toxic spider with robotnik's creepy smile...shudder)
No way! This is the best Last level/boss track ever made. Hands down the best. And this wasn't even the last level, though it was for me. This track, The adventures of Batman and Robin, plus the first Mortal Kombat Had the best soundtracks. This song is actually intimidating to this day.
Those who are whining over the minimalistic melodies in this track: pay more attention to the synth design, similar to the way you'd listen to a soundscape.
probably one of the more frightening sonic tracks ever. when i FINALLY beat the machine and made it to this level, i knew right away i was in for some serious shit.
The Japanese boxart shows that "Rainbow Sonic" appeared before "Rainbow Mario" from Galaxy. also this music is awesome. Low quality Genesis music, but it's still kick-ass!
If your going to make a hard as shit level you expect people to sit on for almost an hour or more, you better sure as hell have some killer music to keep the level from being too annoying so people won't hit the mute button. Thank lord they did. It's like people know this level is gonna kick their ass just by how intense the music starts. Awesome
Has anybody ever noticed that the American Genesis soundtracks sound badly inferior in audio quality compared to the superior Japanese/European Mega Drive soundtracks?
Howard Drossin done a great job on Sonic 3 and Sonic and Knuckles but this is definitely his worst soundtrack right here.
@Renegade466isback I think the Ooze was a much improved soundtrack over this one myself. The Ooze had drums and guitars in it while Sonic Spinball had strange noises in it.
@Renegade466isback Well, the interesting thing is that all of the games dev'd by SEGA Tech Institute (this, ooze, etc) all shared the same FM sound engine, which was modeled to have instruments like electric guitars, etc. The Japan-developed games didn't use it.
@Adam060756 Dude, almost (but NOT all) American stuff is utter shite, HAHA! But when you say "soundtrack" do you mean to say the content of the music OR the sound quality all by itself? I can honestly say that is the ONLY Sonic game that i have hardcorely played. Except not on any console. On PC, hehe.
@thefidlerontheroof When it comes to learning about SEGA Mega Drive (Genesis) and lending a good ear to the music that comes with the games, you're going to notice that mostly all the American Genesis soundtracks and sound quality sound really bad and terrible compared to the superior Japanese/European soundtracks. It's almost like the Americans didn't know how to compose and program good quality music in the Mega Drive (Genesis) games.
That's just my opinion people, i'm not disrespecting the American community so don't gang up on me. Americans have done alot of great things in this world but composing and programming 16-bit music is definitely not one of them and that goes for Michael Jackson aswell.
@Adam060756 In what way is the sound quality inferior? I thought this was one of the soundtracks which pushed the Genesis the hardest. I don't think any of the gritty metallic sound of it is unintentional.
Also I don't see the trend in American versus Japanese soundtracks you're talking about. Remember STI (who made Sonic 2) was an American team, too.
@SFtheWolf Yeah I know, Sonic 2 and Sonic 3 & Knuckles were made in America at the SEGA Technical Institute but with one important difference = the games were made under the influence of Yuji Naka and the Japanese Sonic Team.
@Adam060756 yeah see, i actually agree, there are some really nice parts and toxic caves and title screen and a few other things are good but like, this song and the machine and lava powerhouse they're just so monotonous and have little if any melody or harmony its mainly rhythmic music. like imagine if you tried to do a piano cover of like any of these songs... people would think you just sucked balls. and yeah I'm a BIG HD fan, he is the shit so i don't mean no smack towards him.
The beat in this track is so epic - you just cannot bat that drum beat!
I also loving that 16-bit electro-metal rythem in that American Mega Drive/Genesis sound chip (sounds just like Comix Zone) - Alot different in instrument & soundwise compared the the Japanese sound chips in Sonic 1/2 & I think 3&K
When I had this game as a kid, it took me forever just to get to this level. Even today, I still have so much trouble with this level. Kudos to whoever made this level so f***ing challenging!!!
When I was a kid, it took me something like a year to muster the skills to get as far as this level. Now I can breeze my way through the game to it, in, what, an hour? Yet this level still gives me problems. To this day, I've only ever finished the game once; it just gets amazingly frustrating after a while. XD
I've beaten most every Sonic game, and I have to say, This is probably the most godforsaken level in the entire series. I only been able to ass myself to beat it once, and I BARELY made it through.

I rarely see a soundtrack fit the environment so well. I can just say that with all the things in scenario exploding in the final stage as they do this song couldn't find a better place to be.
and the dark atmosphere and lava make it think you are in hell, which is what they must have been trying to go for. and damn did it work. best soundtrack 16 bit music ever
And the worst is the FIRST TIME you make it to this stage, no doubt having blown through all your lives/continues beating The Machine and previous levels...so then it becomes a challenge just trying to survive long enough to SEE the level!
Can't remember anymore, but having no lives here you just can't survive. To make it worse, the previous levels are fairly easy, in the end. But this stage never becomes easy.
I think one of the very first things anyone does when entering this place the first time is DIE.
@Panzarkunst I'll never forget the message that says "Ready to fry?" when you fall down the side lanes on the lowest, central flipper (the one you spawn in) of this stage. This is the final thing that kills both your moral and Sonic.
I haven't played the newest Sonic games, but they seem to get lazier and lazier making them, at least making the control system work. One reason why I liked playing as Shadow back in SA2 was how he seemed to be easier to steer than Sonic, maybe because of his different way of moving. I have only beaten it once but I always play it over and over again and I always die at the same place. I think it's the music that draws me to it. It just sounds so bad ass. thanks for uploading

My favorite track of this game, barely taking a lead agaisnt the boss theme.
Much w00tness is in these songs.

This should've been the boss theme in Sonic Chronicles. As much as I love Sonic CD, it got too much representation in that game.
