most of the time a smaller buck like a spike or 4 pointer will rub on that tiny tree you showed us... bigger deer have more weight and need bigger trees to push back at them to get the velvet off of their horns... it only makes sence... that could easily be a huge buck that needed a stiff tree to rub on
BULL SHIT!! deer wiht use pine trees to rub their antlers... either to get the velvet off or as in a rub line for territory claiming... i live in highland new york and we do not have HOGS here wild in the woods yet... deer rub pint trees like that all the time so i dont know what your talking about... yess they prefer softer trees to rub on but they deffinitely will rub pines ill post a video soon and show all of you.. also the size of the deer/antlers will usually corespond to the tree size
yeah pretty good, but the easyest way for me to tell the difference,is there coarse pig hair left behind #2 mud left on the tree#3 tracks pig tracks at a glance look like deer, but pigs tend to walk on the frount portion of there hoves.
Were I live in Canada deer rub there antlers on just about any tree here and there are no wild pigs in Canada so thats how i knew it would be a deer in my area.
Like others have said, Where I came from originally and here in Oklahoma, deer will use whatever they can find to rub their antlers on. I've seen them actually rubbing their antlers on small, med and large trees before. Plus there isn't any wild hogs around my area. So it might be just related to your location.
i really had no idea, i just said deer cause others did, lol. in Canada here I dont think we have wild hogs. anyway i am nver in the forest so i wouldnt have known anything. I am glad you told us the answer, i was afraid you would forget and leave me wondering!
I figured it was a hog But in response to deer rubs I have seen fence posts rubbed by bucks so bucks not rubbing on large trees is a questionable observation IMO
i thought it was crazy so many people said deer i thought it was common knowledge deer like little mostly oaks!! we need more videos of you just talking about shit you need to do like a daily or weekly blog if you have time i love to hear your thoughts on things!!! keep up the great work!!
as far as a rub thats not entirely true either. You ask anyone up here in northern minnesota there are deer all over and just in my square mile we have around 30 deer. They make rubs n scrapes on several trees and areas of ground here and its all boxelder and ash. Theres no oak around here for several miles. Oh yeah and chokecherry trees. If I misunderstood you please let me know.
i stand corrected!! i learned in a florida government school so it's amazing i can even communicate at all!! we have mostly oak pine and cypress trees i've never seen rubs on cypress but i have seen them on small pines and oaks!! seems like the deer in my area prefer broadleaf forests a little more(oak ridges)!! i don't like the wild taste so i haven't killed one in years but my father killed a 7 point with his bow this after noon!!
lol dont be so hard on yourself lol I know nothing about hogs except how to raise them in my barn lol but I do know we dont have any wild ones up here at all whatsoever so I dont know didly about wild hog scrapes...does the meat taste gamie like other animals that roam the wild??
That would explain it.....but we don't have wild hogs where I am. The only animals that we have in my area that do anything akin to that are deer. Good vid!
couldn't you argue that the rubs on the tree were off a deer's rack and the dirt displaced like that are from deer scraps. Here in fla where i work we have many pines that look just like your vid.
izaak78 - the camera has a metal lanyard attachment that has some slack on it. I try to take the lanyard off when I use this camera, but forgot to for this video.

must admit - thought it was a deer, but that's the Michigan mentality I have

Maybe you don`t have many 250 lb. bucks down there. In PA, they shread that size tree, on occasion. Not too common, but it happens.

thats a different situation on the use of a fence post
a fence post is a communal rub with multiple deer using one thing

In my defense I do not have wild hogs in Lucas County Ohio but I do have North American White Tail Deer. So a Buck Rub is all I could come up with :)
